I mean, he wasnt really was he? Somewhat rubbery looking if you ask me

I'm sure I read somewhere he had terribly bad breath too ...

I shold explain I've been dipping in and out of Teacher's Pet on TV (Doris Day and Clark Gable) Grin

Give me Yul Brynner/Steve McQueen/James Stewart etc. anyday!

Watch Gone With The Wind and then you'll have your answer.

wahwahwah · 21/12/2011 14:30

I think it was, er, other attributes that women found attractive...

Whitershadeofpale · 21/12/2011 14:30

YANBU! a bit ratty featured I always thought.

MrsChristmasDB · 21/12/2011 14:32

Merry Christmas and all that me ol' mucker. Xmas Grin

Have to say, I agree with Oliviablahblahblahblah.

MissAnnersley · 21/12/2011 14:32

YABU - he had a 'something'. In Gone With the Wind he was very sexy.

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2011 14:33

I've seen Gone With the Wind many a time - still not convinced!!
And, and, he doesn't deliver the "Frankly my dear ...." line with enough panache in my opinion Grin

Oooh err wahwah Blush

santastooearlymustdache · 21/12/2011 14:33

oh god, Yul Brynner

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2011 14:34

Oh hello Mrs DB!!

GoingForGoalWeight · 21/12/2011 14:34

I look at Clark and swoon but he suffered with halitosis, Vivian Leah said in an interview, she almost vomited in the kiss scenes..so puts me off when i watch Gone With The Wind Xmas Envy.

MrsChristmasDB · 21/12/2011 14:35

NO FIGHTING !

Salmo, I'm MrsChristmas atm.

DH is very busy, as you can imagine.

GrimmaTheNome · 21/12/2011 14:36

When I was young I thought he was gorgeous but now those cheekbones look too high.

I don't think Yul was handsome, but he has massive charisma; Jimmie Stewart isn't either but he's just such a sweetie (even when playing harder-edged roles)

MissAnnersley · 21/12/2011 14:36

Agree about Yul Brynner too. Xmas Grin

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2011 14:36

See, I was right!!

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 21/12/2011 14:37

ShirleyKnotChristmas · 21/12/2011 14:39

Oh NO! Why did I read that about Vivien Lee? WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHYWHYYYYY??????

Gone With The Wind = RUINED FOR ME.

You bastards.

sozzledchops · 21/12/2011 14:39

Gone With The Wind - the answereth is, he was more the dangerous bad boy type (thought the stars back then always seemed almost middle aged).

FreudianSlipper · 21/12/2011 14:43

i agree

can not see the attraction with James Dean either

now Marlon Brando strutting around looking mean and moody in a tight tshirt in A Streetcar Named Disire is jsut about the sexiest thing ever on film

wahwahwah · 21/12/2011 14:45

And he had a huge willy.

GrimmaTheNome · 21/12/2011 14:46

The actor of that era I couldn't understand anyone swooning over was Leslie Howard.

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2011 14:46

Sidney Poitier and Tony Curtis

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 21/12/2011 14:48

Agree about the young Brando!

OP posts:
ShirleyKnotChristmas · 21/12/2011 14:50

Who had a huge qwillt?

Brando in Streetcar is just...

Paul Newman in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/12/2011 14:50

I think it was more about people's lives in those days.

He, along with the other movie stars, represented a fantasy life, lifting people away from drudgery.

On the other hand, if someone is described as beautiful often enough people start to beleive it.

There are quite a few contempory stars who really do not live up to their hype.

ShirleyKnotChristmas · 21/12/2011 14:51

WILLY not qwillt - what?
