Because if she has been I would like to know why.

OP posts:
SacreLao · 07/11/2011 23:02

Justine While I disagree with the ban I would like to say how great it is of you to come onto this thread and spend all this time answering our questions and explaining the decissions to us all.

To be fair you could have just told us all to feck off and closed it.

LindsayWagner · 07/11/2011 23:02

I don't fwiw think it's always possible to post with a worst-case-scenario view of another MN-ers circs; I think MN's true spirit bounces erratically between that extreme, and the other, 'you're talking shite and I'm telling you so' one.

I think the DBF prob is more about the affirmation some people get for being utterly single-minded, to the point of illogic, from others who broadly share their views but are, for good reasons, more circumspect. That affirmation is addictive, and after a while, they start chasing it for the self-esteem-boosting endorphins. It's circular, and a board like DH, which is quite self-contained, can and has become a bit dysfunctional because of that dynamic.

The shoot first, ask questions later approach is rather offputting, if it was the other way round then fine, if they need shooting shoot them but on a number of occasions I've seen posters in the Doghouse flamed only to get an apology later once they have mad the chance to fully explain themselves, recent thread from the Collie and GSD breeder comes to mind.

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 07/11/2011 23:03

How peculiar Mary! I've never seen you arguing for a thread to be deleted before Confused - you are usually very vocally against deletion.

Good point, Galaxy

Our dog is from a private breeder. There are 4 other dogs in the neighbourhood from the same or subsequent litter, all well cared for and happy.

Not all dogs from private breeders end up in puppy farms.

The sad thing is, DBF could have advised the OP of the whelping thread on how to ensure that the puppies would be well cared for (although it seemed to me that they were going to friends so she would have known that anyway)

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 07/11/2011 23:04

:o Beyond

prioneyes · 07/11/2011 23:05

Galaxy, you're missing the point hugely. DBF isn't railing against "bad" breeders or dog owners. They're out there but they're a tiny part of a massive problem, which is mainly caused by common-or-garden-means-well-but-hasn't-got-a-clue types who buy/breed/pass on dogs with inadequate knowledge or information. It's massively frustrating to see the extent of harm that is done to animals on a daily basis simply because people are so fucking clueless. And I speak as a professional, not as a voluntary rescuer like Val, so I see the people who mean well enough to bring their pets for help. She sees much worse.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 07/11/2011 23:05

Oo, and a question for Justine too (although I think I can guess the answer)

Why delete DBFs profile, but not that of the MRA trolls who were on the many rape threads the other day, whose only aim is to make jokes and upset women? I assume the answer is that they will just set up another account and use that?

HeresTheThingBooyhoo · 07/11/2011 23:05

agree sacreleo

also justine has any decision been made yet WRT lifting DBF's ban?

TuftyFinch · 07/11/2011 23:05

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 07/11/2011 23:06

Would any of you lovely, kind, beautiful (is that enough?) ladies mind telling me if DBF has been banned and if MNHQ have said why?

I would love to read the thread but im about to drop, thanks

wannaBe · 07/11/2011 23:06

WWIFN was banned? why?

AnyFucker · 07/11/2011 23:06

bibbity WWIFN was not banned, she left of her own accord

justine it was just a thought, but strange that the last thread was deleted which covered much of the same ground and didn't have weirdo's barging in to give grief to posters who have had fuck-all to do with any of this

DamnYouAutocorrect · 07/11/2011 23:06

That's well put, Lindsay. And DH is probably not the only topic area on MN to which it applies. One of the downsides of MN having become so big and atomised I suppose.

Am boggling at those who don't think the DBF post quoted by Justine is a personal attack. Genuinely surprised that anyone could argue it isn't.

auntiepicklebottom2 · 07/11/2011 23:06

in a way i am glad she did get banned.

she did her best to protect animals, and ignored warnings after warning just to save the dogs.

SacreLao · 07/11/2011 23:07

Yes she has been banned for personal attacks, a lot disagree that they were indeed personal attacks but it seems she was on a warning, or several hence the ban for what seems like a minor thing.

SacreLao · 07/11/2011 23:08

picklebottom

What is wrong with that?
She did the best to save the dogs like you said at any cost.

That is dedication to me and should be bloody applauded.

dreamingbohemian · 07/11/2011 23:08

Justine If the thread is staying, can we talk about some actual solutions going forward?

I suggested earlier a temporary ban from the Doghouse rather than a permanent MN ban.

Is this something MN would consider?

SacreLao · 07/11/2011 23:09

good idea bohemian

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 07/11/2011 23:09

My apologies, I got that wrong.

JustineMumsnet · 07/11/2011 23:09

@LindsayWagner

I actually agree with that LW. I think you can and should be able to say 'you're talking shite and I'm telling you so' but you shouldn't say "'you're talking shite, you evil/nasty/uncaring/thoughtless/stupid (delete as appropriate) person you, and I'm telling you so'

auntiepicklebottom2 · 07/11/2011 23:10

nothing wrong with it at all.

i also applaud her dedication, after all where is there wedsite that dogs and other animal can use....wait they can't.

Northernlurker · 07/11/2011 23:10

No - you don't get to say what the hell you like just because you're passionate. However imo neither should you be banned for being passionate - which is basically what's happened here. Especially when particularly in the feminism section all sorts of crap is allowed to stand. Not much being gentle there!
