Absolutely. DBF has obviously been told to calm it down more than once, yet she hasn't. You can be passionate and offer advice without being a headbanger about it. She does come across as an extremist. This is not the place for that.

Nah, I think the posts moved on so quickly with many citing TLES as offensive that HQ had to start listening.

I have had very spirited discussions in the past, with the posters in the Doghouse, and with DBF. I have said that I find the tone of the posts to be sometimes overly aggressive.

While I understand and admire DBF's passion, she has at times gone too far and ultimately done more harm than good, causing people to be nervous of posting in the Doghouse.

In the past months though, she has considerably toned it down and has been more cautious about what and how she posted. Obviously, MNHQ may not always notice things like this though, as they only notice posters when they are reported.

As to this debacle - I did not see the thread in question but have long harboured doubts about TLE. Tbh, I can tell a TLE thread a mile off and don't even bother opening it. I sometimes look just so I can pat myself on the back that I recognised her.

Overdramatic, ignoring advice, pushing MN buttons.

If DBF was posting in response to TLE - who was repeatedly warned about getting a dog - then I am not surprised that she got upset, and think that her post was likely rather restrained. She must have been BOILING inside.

This thread was inevitable, imo.

I do hope that MNHQ look again at this and reinstate DBF.

It's how you do it I think - there is an aggressive tone in the Doghouse that is off-putting to lots of posters.
They ask for advice and get a telling off. The words might make sense but the message is "You stupid Twat". You can be useful and even forthright without making people feel lousy.

Also: even as a lily-livered, over-sensitive, Guardian-reading liberal wishywashy agnostic elderly parent.....I would rather share MN space with a passionate, caring DBF (and disagree with her posting style on occasion) than with some others who would never, ever be banned.

Bullying, undermining, judgemental nastiness can pass right under the radar when its not rude or shouty, but can also do ten times the damage. IMO.

TLES used to post as Vaunda and was banned under that ID, IIRC. I think she was allowed back exceptionally after a lot of grovelling. I just roll my eyes when I see her 'look at meeeee" posts and move on.

Don't respond to her - as you wouldn't with any troll and she will bugger off to nethuns go away.

DLES is simply the engine which tipped DBF over into 'banned'.
It doesn't matter if DBF has helped lots of people - many here have.
What matters is the number of people she's terrified. That puts them off the whole site, from which they might have gained support etc.
Oldies have seen it many times - poster is knowledgeable, poster is forthright, poster gains kudos, poster turns into a bit of a fucking mare.

I also really disagree with the decision to ban DBF - her contribution is valuable which is more than can be said for some others, and she posts as she does because she is constantly coming up against the attitude that animals are easily dispensable and she is one who has to deal with the consequences of that attitude.

It's a bit worrying that someone as distinctive as TLES on so many topics for so long has escaped the eagle eyes of MN Towers. Like many others, I stopped engaging with her years ago. It was far too complicated.

If it is the 'tone', then why was it that the repeated 'you're all disgusting man-hating bitch feminists' comments weren't 'personal attacks'. I certainly felt personally attacked ... at the time we were told 'erm, it can't be personal if it's applied to all of you'.

As someone who is very new to Doghouse I have been made to feel very welcome. It seems to me that DBF is forthright in her opinions but polite until other people start slinging mud and attacking HER. Surely self defense is allowed?
