To think this is incitement to rape

And you should all be emailing, jumping up and down and generally making a fuss please?

It seems to have gone.

That slogan could be construed as normalising rape as an acceptable part of human sexual experience, and as such it had to go.

Anyone wearing such a T shirt should be prosecuted. A similarly racist one would rightly not be tolerated, so why should we be expected laugh at such aggressively sexist shit?

Andrewofgg · 08/10/2011 11:37

Bupcakes spot on. I would have answered the question you pose with a Yes and in fact I joined in the chorus of emails to Mr S.

OneHandFlapping I think I agree although free speech has to include a great deal which is nasty - see the DM six days a week and the MoS on the seventh.

The shirts which GumballCharm mentioned at 21.00.40 yesterday fall firmly on the free-speech side of the line and should not be the subject of prosecution or the threat of arrest.

Bollocks to Blair is a political comment.

Jesus is a cunt is just coarse.

Don't piss me off, I'm running out of places to hide the bodies is a joke, maybe not a funny one, but a joke nevertheless.

leftblank · 08/10/2011 16:18

I'm very liberal and not much offends me, in fact i'm hardly ever shocked or offended. However, i was subject to a horrific rape a couple of years ago. I'm pretty proud of myself to have got through that and some days i don't even think about it. I'm happy again and i have a nice life. But this kind of thing knocks me on my arse each and every time.

I agree with freedom of speech but don't know why anyone would want to make someone's life that little bit harder. I know someone who today has joined a group on facebook called 'you know she is playing hard to get when she is trying to break out of your van'. That is someone who i'm pretty sure knows about what happened to me. I think it is stupidity and maybe they are not thinking but it has such a big impact on me.

They can have their little jokes if they want but would like to know if it is really worth it to them that it makes me cry?

Anyway! Well done everyone who has fought against this website. It is lovely to know that at least some people care what some women go through.

Yeah that one is nice. Idiots.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/10/2011 17:13

I've emailed the company to complain about this t-shirt. Frankly even the name of the company is pretty nasty, and shows a lot about the company ethos.

PerAr6ua-thankyou very much for displaying a link STRAIGHT TO THE T-SHIRT! Don't you think it would have been better to put the link to the web site where I could have clicked on OFFENSIVE SLOGANS[bit of a clue] and viewed these pieces of shit if I wanted to? Please send your emails but don't try to shut his business down. Not in this current climate.

BupcakesandCunting · 08/10/2011 17:32

Businesses will sink in this current climate regardless. Economics just help sort the wheat from the chaffe.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/10/2011 17:32

Dexifehatz - the title of the thread is also a bit of a clue that the link in the OP doesn't lead to a picture of fluffy kittens, surely.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/10/2011 17:33

And if the title doesn't give you a clue, then the actual link itself does make the subject matter reasonably clear.

BupcakesandCunting · 08/10/2011 17:41

I have just emailed the delightful jamrags.com to tell them that they're a proper bunch of knuckldraggers. Sure they'll be arsed. Hmm

Uppity · 08/10/2011 18:48

Fuck the current climate, I hope all those bastards go out of business and their cocks fall off for good measure.

Does that tell you how much I give a shit that men who find rape hilarious, might go out of business poor darlings?

FFS

Uppity · 08/10/2011 18:51

Oh what I was going to say was this: There is a link here where you can send in ideas for T-shirts. How about we e-mail them ideas with slogans such as:

1 in 4 women will be raped or sexually assaulted in their lifetimes but only 10% of them will report it and only 6% of those 10% will get a guilty verdict

96% of rape allegations are true

We live in a society which tells women not to get raped, instead of telling men not to rape

Etc. Etc.

It will waste a bit of their time and hopefully piss them off a bit. Won't put them out of business, alas.

leftblank · 08/10/2011 19:02

Can i just say my rapist got 10 years. It can be done.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/10/2011 23:28

If their business relies on selling t-shirts that make fun of rape, then I'm with Uppity - I will not weep if they go out of business (though I would feel sorry for the employees who have no influence on editorial policy).

After all - they do have a choice - there are plenty of funny slogans that could be printed on t-shirts, without crossing the line into offensiveness - my reading of the following statement from their website makes it pretty clear that they want to offend and don't care at all:

"We are a bleeding brilliant new website; we will put more information about our bloody business when you buy some rags.

Go buy some rags! We guarantee you will find something you like, and probably dislike.

If you are observant, you may have noticed that Jamrags is an offensive t-shirt company. We specialise in creating offensive t-shirts, cotton for cunts. If you are a cunt, then we'll jam one of these rags in your letter box in exchange for precious metals."

I feel sorry for their girlfriends (if they have any that don't come with their own footpump).

beakinthebeeswax · 09/10/2011 08:02

SDTG that is just disgusting. I dont think they have girlfriends. They just being sexist for the hell of it.

Leftblank how harrowing for you. I was sexually assaulted in front of my then 8 year old son and was absolutely terrified. I cant imagine what you have been through.

Recently i have seen the following T-shirt slogans-

"All I want is a beer and a blow job. Is that so wrong?"

"Its aint gonna suck itself, love"

"No heavy loads over 9 stone" (With arrow pointing downwards)

What the actual hell are they going to dream up next?

minimisschief · 09/10/2011 08:19

So i looked through the t-shirts. found them quite funny. Especially the samuel l jackson quote about an ak47.

Not something i would wear but i can see it for what it is which is a joke, just like black comedy you get from comedians. You know you shouldnt laugh, but it is funny and you do anyway.

Andrewofgg · 09/10/2011 08:35

Is it my imagination or is the very name deliberately offensive?

Robotindisguise · 09/10/2011 08:45

I've had an email from chargrilled apologising. They had a new designer. They won't be using him again, they're reviewing all their other t-shirts and also the way they approve designs.

I wonder if the "rape into a murder" t-shirt is the same designer on a different site...

fedupofnamechanging · 09/10/2011 09:31

People should be able to say whatever they want, even if it is rude and offensive. If you are to have true free speech in a country, then it does sometimes come with a cost to peoples feelings. Other people are free to make their objections known and to vote with their feet. There are some 'comedians' out there, who make me want to vomit and I would never go and see them or support them, but I would defend their right to be vomit inducing.

I would always prefer to know, right from the outset, that someone is a complete fuckwit. If you saw someone wearing this T shirt, you, and virtually everyone else walking past him in the street would think 'what an ignorant arse.' Job done.

I'm not sure someone could/should be prosecuted on the grounds that this is incitement. A person is either a rapist or they're not. Being a nasty fuckwit, shouldn't be a crime.

Bossybritches22 · 09/10/2011 14:01

Karma I agree & will fight to my last breath for true free speech in our country which sets us apart from many,if not all, others.

However the point here is that these "Funny" slogans, help normalise offensive, sexist behaviour & reinforces the stereotypes of women who are "asking for it" & men who need to have it anytime anywhere on demand.

You & I might walk past a fuckwit wearing that T-shirt but how many more young ill-informed minds see it & snigger & think it's OK,it's a slow drip effect of reinforcing negative attitudes,in both young men AND women.

Men are not served well by this sort of mentality any more than women.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/10/2011 15:04

Andrewfogg - no, you are not wrong about the name of the site being offensive.

I've emailed them, but I have no confidence at all that I will have pricked their consciences - I think that they are even less likely to have consciences than girlfriends, to be frank.
