And you should all be emailing, jumping up and down and generally making a fuss please?

well altinkum, have those 12 people now been reminded to have a good think about the casual acceptance of harassment and violence towards women? And that maybe it shouldn't be accepted?

I hate to say it but the Printer Supervisor and the Embroidery Supervisor (among others) are of the female persuasion.

Police will refer it to CPS - if they do anything at all - so don't expect anything quick. But I can imagine them (the company) deciding that this particular T-shirt is more trouble than it is worth (didn't the Wrath of Mumsnet get some similar product plucked recently?) and the others, while many of them are in poor taste, can't by any stretch of the imagination be called criminal.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 07/10/2011 20:38

What is a screen dump? The Ts are horrible - what can be done?

I do think that is right to speak out against this.

Yes, the website gets more traffic that they would normally get, but I doubt they will get many orders.

And what does it matter if they do?

If we ignore tshirts like this, do we ignore tshirts with racist slogans?

We have to speak out against vile misogynist fuckwits.

GumballCharm · 07/10/2011 20:41

We'll just assume we can't do anything to stop him then shall we Altinkum Hmm

I am not wasting my time emailing the site...or the owner. I'm trying to think of a better route.

caesar04 · 07/10/2011 20:41

I reminded him of that Andrewofogg in my email!!!

Shows total lack of media awareness. He's a fuckwit.

MmeLindor. · 07/10/2011 20:42

Andrew
It is not just MN. I have just seen the tshirt linked to by three different people on Twitter, none of them MNetters. No, make that five people.

Honestly, this is not about outraged MNetters.

And 'jokes' like the one on this t-shirt are part of wider attitudes. It was DH who initially showed me this link as it was on his Twitter stream. We were talking about it and he has said that he has been accused of being 'po-faced' or having no sense of humour when he has challenged similar jokes at work (fairly male-dominated industry).

GumballCharm · 07/10/2011 20:43

If we did tell the newspapers, then that WOULD be giving the idiot publicity.

Is it illegal to display threats of violence on your clothes? I couldn't wear one with the N word on it....I know that would result in arrest for inciting hatred...surely these are also illegal? Anyone know the law on this?

MmeLindor. · 07/10/2011 20:45

Twitter search

GumballCharm · 07/10/2011 20:45

What are you going on about Altinkum....it wont NOT be on Google if we dont kick up...it's there already!

gapants · 07/10/2011 20:47

well yes we might be giving them "free publicity" but I am very much of the same mind as stewiegriffithsmom, regardless, I have seen something very offensive, and I want my voice to be heard.

mamas12 · 07/10/2011 20:47

deinitely think they should be prosecuted for incitement to violence
Rape is violence

Andrewofgg · 07/10/2011 20:48

MmeLindor I would not sell anything which enraged MN, I am not being flippant about this. Flippancy has its place and this is not it.

Truthfully I doubt if this constitutes incitement to rape or any other criminal offence, but the world would be no worse if it was pulled. The others may be offensive - but nothing can be funny without offending somebody. The one about the Nectar card is probably offensive to the poor buggers who staff checkouts and have to keep asking people whether they have one.

So if this twat pulls this one, with or without an apology, call it a result and move on.

helpmabob · 07/10/2011 20:48

Absolutely disgusting, I just cant imagine a single person wearing it.

Mwahahahahahahahouseface · 07/10/2011 20:49

So did I, re the female staff, especially in the print and embroidery depts! These women see these T-shirts. How can they be 'okay' about it or even work for these people?

Gumball - I've reported as a crime to the company's local police force - Bedfordshire.

If you can be prosecuted for twatting about starting a riot in your own backwater this summer, then how can this not be prosecutable?

Altinkum, we all know we're for equal rights and we wouldn't hang out with rapists or racists or kick puppies etc - but do we always challenge the jokes when we should? Or do we let the fuckwits believe that ideas are acceptable, because we don't want to make a fuss?

OP posts:
HedleyLamarr · 07/10/2011 20:52

That is fucking horrible. I have sent an email registering my disgust and anger.

PerAr6ua · 07/10/2011 20:53

cross-post. tell you what - anyone I see wearing this shirt, I'll take a photo and report them to my local police - does that allay your fears re publicity?

OP posts:
Andrewofgg · 07/10/2011 20:54

It may well have earned them money already as people look out of curiosity and buy their inoffensive (or less offensive or differently offensive) product even if they don't buy that one.
