Remember - if no one talks about this site, no one will look at it. If no one looks at it, no one will order from it. If no one orders from it, no offensive t-shirts will be made. Job done

Altinkum but the fact that they may make SOME extra sales is not enough to justify ignoring them vesus coming down on them and shaming/forcing tem to pull the t shirts.

As forGoogle...that is only PART of how it works...there is also the huge issue of SEO. And they won't get enough extra hits from this thread to raise them that high.

I don't think that it is a criminal offence to print and sell this tshirt, tbh.

Which doesn't mean that we should not protest against it.

Last week there was a program on German TV about Rohypnol. They interviewed young girls who had been raped on holiday. And a guy who made and sold Rohypnol. It was shocking how easily it could be bought and how toothless the German police are in this area. And how few women knew about it and how to prevent this happening to them.

No idea if the situation is similar in UK, but I was really surprised to learn how little the police could do to stop the sale of this.

If my site has very good SEO then it can wipe the floor of a competitor even if my site is brand spanking new.

Is it worth pointing out that giving someone rohypnol without their explicit consent is assault?

So encouraging someone to give someone else rohypnol is incitement?

Just got this from WIKI

There have been arrests in Britain of people wearing T-shirts bearing the phrase Bollocks to Blair. This has provoked much debate on whether Britain's freedom of speech is being eroded.[1]

In September 2005, 20-year-old Charlotte Dennis was arrested at a Gloucestershire event for wearing this item [2]
In April 2006, a Conservative Party worker was threatened with arrest for wearing a "Bollocks to Blair" T-shirt.[3]
In a non-political case in August 2007, a man was warned he could be fined for wearing a t-shirt with the slogan "don't piss me off, I'm running out of places to hide the bodies".[4]
The band Cradle of Filth produced a t-shirt which included the phrase "Jesus is a cunt", which has been the cause of prosecutions from the late 1990s.

Can you imagine being a female employee in that company, who has been raped?

Can you imagine how triggering that would be?

I really hope something very bad happens to all the people involved in the production of this t shirt.

Fucking bunch of fucking scumbags.

And really - if anyone's drawn to the site by the deeply misogynistic tshirt but thinkg 'oh, that one of [insert kitten-based theme here] is alright' and actually buys it - really? Would that happen?

Would you go on to the BNP's site and think - 'Oh, the Union Jack teatowel's just what I wanted'?

So that is enough for me and I am going to find the case and quote it to the Beds police.

I am emailing them...I don't want to block their phones or anything...

So we ignore offensive bigots because they might make money from the traffic to their website?

No.

We stand against it and say that this is not acceptable.

Can you imagine, if you had been a victim of rape, seeing someone wearing that tshirt? Can you imagine what that would feel like? The thought that someone was laughing about the worst thing that had happened to you?

Andrewofgg · 07/10/2011 21:04

Of course mocking things that other people take seriously is not in itself objectionable which is why I think it is only the one shirt which crosses the line; so I hope the bloke whose business it is will cut his losses and pull that one.

Nothing to be done about any he's already dispatched. Anyone know how long it has been on sale?

Report
GumballCharm · 07/10/2011 21:05

Did anyone read my quote which suggests it IS illegal to wear t shirts promoting violence?

Report
Andrewofgg · 07/10/2011 21:07

PerAr6ua Anyone reading about this who goes on the website with no strong views either way might indeed buy other product - it's not like going on the BNP website which is hardly like to attract anybody without strong views for them or against them.

It's vile, disgusting, offensive and totally unacceptable.

But I don't think it's incitement to rape.

I don't know, it's worse than crude and vulgar but I'm not convinced it's criminal. Unfortunately.

As well as Beds police would it be efective to all email our own under hate crimes? Also rape support groups?

I agree in principal we shouldn't give these sickos publicity but I can't condone this sort of business.

"Fun Tees" like that normalise abusive & unacceptable behaviour.

oooooh steaming......

Altinkum people have to LOOK at te site to see if they are offended...not many people will report a site for being offensive without visiting it.

And FBng it is just as bad as anything!
