to think asking for honeymoon contributions from people you haven't invited to your wedding...

...is just a tiny bit gauche?

Not close to this couple so didn't expect a wedding invite. We're facebook friends (I was at uni with one partner but haven't seen them in years). Received a fb event invite titled 'Getting married' so thought for 5 seconds I'd have an excuse for a new frock, then realised it was an 'invitation' to all their fb friends to contribute to their honeymoon, whether invited or not.

Worst bit is, some people have obviously not read it properly and left a load of messages saying sorry they can't make it but thanks for thinking of them etc etc. The groom has now posted huffily saying that this isn't a wedding invite as they were sent out months ago, and this was 'clearly stated' on the event. AIBU to be boggling at the brass neck? And now wondering if I can pull a similar stunt to fund my next holiday?

he's not embarrassed enough to delete my comment or (even better) delete the event. More front than Brighton.

This is bloody brilliant!!! I cannot believe it. I'm getting married soon...hey hey, MN members! None of you are invited to my wedding but please send cash so that I can buy a fabulous new camera and send you the pictures.

Cheers!

Oh if only it wouldn't out me so much to post a link to this thread on the event page. Knew I should have namechanged.

I really wish I could but it's a private event (as well it bloody might be) so can't be shared. I may have a screengrab lying around if anyone PMs me an email address

And no, it was just in an email to me. She doesn't know him (and wow I bet she's upset about that)

Just had a thought - I've been married for 11 years and none of you lot bought me a wedding present, so wouldn't you like the chance to put that right now? hmmmmmmm? Nice new camera for Wilson??

Note, this is not an invite to my wedding. That was 11 years ago!

pigletmania · 05/10/2011 14:03

My goodness what a knob, if you were his close friend you would be on the invite

This is the best thread I've read in ages Grin

KnitterNotTwitter · 05/10/2011 14:07

how about putting the screen grab up as one of your photos and making it available to us all to OMG at?

pigletmania · 05/10/2011 14:07

My god he has elephant skin, any normal person would be ashamed and remove that page

hellsbells76 · 05/10/2011 14:08

Ooh knitter good idea. I'll just try and work out how to do that...

Has anyone else responded since you did or in the same manner as you?

ViviPru · 05/10/2011 14:13

This is infinitely more engaging than my current RL task

AKissIsNotAContract · 05/10/2011 14:19

I wonder if he'll defriend everyone who thinks it's rude/doesn't contribute. He won't have many FB mates left.

enjoyingscience · 05/10/2011 14:20

This is killing my supposed home working, you know

hellsbells76 · 05/10/2011 14:21

Has that worked? I resized them as much as I could but you might still need a magnifying glass. It's mostly just the stuff I c&p'd. Won't leave them up there for long (still paranoid about journos!)

Had a look but couldn't make much of it out, I am on my phone though.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 05/10/2011 14:29

Perfecto!

Except you've scrubbed out all the interesting bits personal details :o

Am especially liking the very subtle heading - You are Not Attending. Just in case there are any doubts...

notso · 05/10/2011 14:32

I can't believe anyone would have the actual cheek to do this.
I suppose it could have been worse he could have put it in a cheesy poem.

hellsbells76 · 05/10/2011 14:32

haha yeah, got a bit busy with the airbrush tool in Paint! Hope no one's identifiable. And I've never declined an invitation so quickly and with such relish, I can tell you...
