to think asking for honeymoon contributions from people you haven't invited to your wedding...

...is just a tiny bit gauche?

Not close to this couple so didn't expect a wedding invite. We're facebook friends (I was at uni with one partner but haven't seen them in years). Received a fb event invite titled 'Getting married' so thought for 5 seconds I'd have an excuse for a new frock, then realised it was an 'invitation' to all their fb friends to contribute to their honeymoon, whether invited or not.

Worst bit is, some people have obviously not read it properly and left a load of messages saying sorry they can't make it but thanks for thinking of them etc etc. The groom has now posted huffily saying that this isn't a wedding invite as they were sent out months ago, and this was 'clearly stated' on the event. AIBU to be boggling at the brass neck? And now wondering if I can pull a similar stunt to fund my next holiday?

Best "Outrageous Wedding Thread" ever! Cheeky beyond belief!

hellsbells76 · 05/10/2011 12:12

oh shit hatwoman I hadn't thought of that. If I get defriended do I automatically get uninvited from the 'event' too? .

Blush at everyone else and a back to Sharrie but I wouldn't have had the bollocks to say anything without you lot cheering me on! Well, that and the raging PMT I woke up with (ask the ladies on the online dating thread)...

Brilliant respsonse. This is unbelievably rude!! It's actually pretty hilarious.

I would have responded with-

"HI! I know not all of you know me but I also quite fancy a new camera, if any of you would like to contribute to THAT, let me know!

And no, none of you can come to my fucking wedding- I don't like you enough!
CIAO DARLINGS!".

I like your response too though Grin

argghh · 05/10/2011 12:14

OMG this thread is toooooo funny.

Thankyou hellsbells!

pigletmania · 05/10/2011 12:14

Well done hells

SnakeOnCrack · 05/10/2011 12:15

Do you have other mates also on this begging event list? They can keep you posted.

Hatwoman · 05/10/2011 12:16

no idea if defriending = retracted "invitation"

ColdSancerre · 05/10/2011 12:20

You will get a notification if people like your post still though won't you?

hellsbells76 · 05/10/2011 12:21

the guest list is hidden too so not sure - most mutual friends going to wedding I think (much closer than I am, I'm sort of on the periphery of that friendship group and really quite happy about that now). I've got a feeling defriending won't equal uninviting but I suppose he could manually uninvite me. Will just have to hope not so I can keep you all updated!

Did I mention they've even put the date, time and location of the wedding on the 'invite'?

strikeout fail. bah.

Well done OP!

hellsbells76 · 05/10/2011 12:22

SnakeOnCrack oh that's brilliant Grin

Well that really does take the Biscuit! love that you told them how rude cheeky there were.

QuietNinjaFotherMucker · 05/10/2011 13:09

They were!

ViviPru · 05/10/2011 13:25

No reaction yet OP? Is he a prolific FBer or one of those who only appears outside of office hours? I can't wait for the next instalment - someone that socially inept is not going to let your comment pass....

hellsbells76 · 05/10/2011 13:27

Nothing yet - I think he works nights though so is probably sleeping. You'll be the first to know of any developments!

hellsbells76 · 05/10/2011 13:32

UPDATE!

He has unfriended me and changed the event title to 'Getting married - present list invite'. No comment on my post and (hurrah) I can still see the event.

I've just checked FB in the hope you're one of my friends and I was invited to the greedy fucker event Grin

Hilarious he's unfriended you. What a twat

FunnysInTheGarden · 05/10/2011 13:37

this is so funny. What an arrogant tosser your unfriend is!

madmomma · 05/10/2011 13:37

'present list invite'!!!??? God that makes me feel sick! He has been dragged up!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 05/10/2011 13:38

So the cheeky fucker has still left his greedy, grasping, self-centred 'event' up in the hope that some more suckers friends will accidentally give him some money?

ViviPru · 05/10/2011 13:38

Hehe result. People are so utterly puerile to go around unfriending just because someone's said something they're not happy with. I wouldn't mind if you'd subsequently had a spat and his unfriend was his final flounce.

Keep us posted on any reactions to your comment...

SauvignonBlanche · 05/10/2011 13:39

Hilarious! Grin

hellsbells76 · 05/10/2011 13:40

Oh I will, I will. My hilarious sister has just sent me this (waves in case she's lurking)

oh how could you be so mean to such a fine, upstanding member of the community. All he wanted was his 461 closest friends to buy him a camera and a honeymoon. IS THAT SO UNREASONABLE!!!

OP posts:
bibbitybobbityhat · 05/10/2011 13:40

Asolutely brilliant response on his wall, op. Not sarky, not passive aggressive, just good plain speaking. Well done. God, I hope he is embarrassed now.
