Men are missing a trick by dressing SO BADLY

BellaneyMimphus · 09/09/2011 11:14

Overheard two American women on the bus discussing British male fashion.
Their inclination was that jogging bottoms should be burned and I agree.

Got me thinking that loads f women positively fantasise about certain kinds of male outfits: uniforms, britches, good boots, etc.
I'm not suggesting that men go out and get an officer's uniform and it's obviously not ok to suggest that men should dress "for" women, but what most men wear and what women like to see men wearing are totally different, would you agree?

AIBU to think men's fashion needs a bit of an overhaul anyway?

Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen looks like Janice from Friends.

CurrySpice · 09/09/2011 11:34

Not just the clothes. Most men, imho, need to think hard about their footwear

AbsDuWolef · 09/09/2011 11:35

YANBU

they should read the Sartorialist blog daily and make notes. I'm so sick to the back teeth of badly and lazily dressed men. they look rank.

BupcakesandCunting · 09/09/2011 11:36

Oh I would love to go about in ball gowns all day. I love them. I'm afraid I'd look mad old bag rather than Grace Kelly, though.

"Oh look, there goes Old Woman Cunting in her ball gown again! I wonder what she carries in that plastic bag" - local youths.

itisnearlysummer · 09/09/2011 11:36

My DH would like me to dress in Laura Ashley or <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=star+trek+costumes+for+adults&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1280&bih=709&tbm=isch&tbnid=l2kOJeW8h8v6OM:&imgrefurl=www.costumecraze.com/ST26.html&docid=W7BS6Bvu6Mv7fM&w=600&h=1348&ei=zutpTvnBGs_zsgaT5Ny5BA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=530&vpy=75&dur=1687&hovh=337&hovw=150&tx=68&ty=167&page=1&tbnh=227&tbnw=101&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this.

BellaneyMimphus · 09/09/2011 11:36

Women DO wear ball gowns, knee-high boots, boiler suits (mainly rejected as vile though), wraparound dresses are everywhere, pirate outfits I would wear in a second, and armour just isn't practical in our damp climate.

You've got it made as far as fantasies go. I can't find a riding boot/britch combo for love nor money Sad

Slightly Miss Havisham Bupcakes?

itisnearlysummer · 09/09/2011 11:37

I was known to grace Sainsbury's in a corset, big skirt and huge boots in my yoof, Bupcakes. Do it!

cheekeymonkey · 09/09/2011 11:38

Oh very dear me summer

BupcakesandCunting · 09/09/2011 11:39

Exactly like that, Cheekey. Wink

I do try to make an effort with me togs. Wouldn't be caught dead in Boden. I like to think that I'm a bit "quirky", like Vivienne Westwood. My friend informs me that I am more Edie Monsoon. :(

MillyR · 09/09/2011 11:39

Goddness, I must be lacking imagination. I'm really just happy with the Geography teacher look on men - some faded cords and a jumper in an autumnal colour.

Makes me go all unneccesary Blush

cheekeymonkey · 09/09/2011 11:41

That would be your friends head you are carrying in the carrier bag then bupcakes? Grin

itisnearlysummer · 09/09/2011 11:41

I know, cheekeymonkey! I'm sure I looked pretty cool though Blush

cheekeymonkey · 09/09/2011 11:43

Depends if he has a 'Boner'part ruby

itisnearlysummer · 09/09/2011 11:43

MillyR, oh I like that too! Depends on the man. Would have to look slightly geeky and like he needs dirtying up a bit to get away with looking like that. And have glasses that can end up slightly askew...

BupcakesandCunting · 09/09/2011 11:43

Oooh cripes, no. Like a carrier bag would be able to hold the weight of her fat head...

Grin
RedRubyBlue · 09/09/2011 11:44

Wonder if I can get DP to consider it Hmm

cheekeymonkey · 09/09/2011 11:44

It's the trekkie fan bit that worries me summer Grin

cheekeymonkey · 09/09/2011 11:47

Would give the mice something to nibble on after all the wedding cake bupcakes Grin

itisnearlysummer · 09/09/2011 11:47

tell me about it!

limitedperiodonly · 09/09/2011 11:52

Agree Bellany. God, he's creepy.

BellaneyMimphus · 09/09/2011 11:52

See, with jogging bottoms, the BEST a man can be thinking is 'I hope the centre seam makes my cock look a bit bigger' and I think men should be aiming higher than that.

Any creativity would be most appreciatively received, wouldn't it? Sigh.

itisnearlysummer · 09/09/2011 11:53

No, with jogging bottoms they're hoping the ladies will take advantage of the easy access they also benefit from when they walk with their hands down there having a jiggle.

BellaneyMimphus · 09/09/2011 11:53

Also it isn't just young good-looking men I'm talking about.
There was a programme a few weeks ago about Georgian men's clothes and the demo-man was kind of plain, maybe a bit balding. He looked 100 times better in his costume than my nice-looking but scruffy-shirted, gap-trousered life partner .
