Men are missing a trick by dressing SO BADLY

BellaneyMimphus · 09/09/2011 11:14

Overheard two American women on the bus discussing British male fashion.
Their inclination was that jogging bottoms should be burned and I agree.

Got me thinking that loads f women positively fantasise about certain kinds of male outfits: uniforms, britches, good boots, etc.
I'm not suggesting that men go out and get an officer's uniform and it's obviously not ok to suggest that men should dress "for" women, but what most men wear and what women like to see men wearing are totally different, would you agree?

AIBU to think men's fashion needs a bit of an overhaul anyway?

I just clicked Tiggy, the feather boa Hmm

Pan · 11/09/2011 11:34

Tiggy - I vote for the boa! And yes you are a man who dresses well.

just the bit where you say of yourself "very nice". I think we'll be the judge of that.Smile

SarahStratton · 11/09/2011 11:38

FBF photographic evidence would be required for fair judging.

motherinferior · 11/09/2011 11:40

I hate suits. And uniforms. I find a man in uniform, if I'm honest, faintly err worrying. I worry I'm going to be arrested or something.

Claw3 · 11/09/2011 11:42

Noooo to feather boas on anyone, they should be illegal!

Pan · 11/09/2011 12:02

Yeeeees to feather boas. I have a v large boa but am way too repressed to wear it in public.

TiggyD · 11/09/2011 12:05

I can't believe there are so many boa haters about.

[takes down pic and flounces majestically over to netmums]

Pan · 11/09/2011 12:07

If you ever flounced you could only do it majestically.

Claw3 · 11/09/2011 12:10

I have quite a few items im too repressed to wear in public Grin

Oh Tiggy stop flouncing, especially not to netmums!

stripeybump · 11/09/2011 12:17

DH frequently complains that he can't wear interesting fashionable clothes because all the best fashions are nicked by the gayz.

Anyway, all men should wear billowing white shirts and leather trousers.

Pan · 11/09/2011 12:23

You mean ALL men stripey?

stripeybump · 11/09/2011 12:27

Sorry for the 'z' Pan - just trying to lighten the post, to show how DH huffs about it!

Claw3 · 11/09/2011 12:32

Leather trousers = serious wardrobe malfunction

Pan · 11/09/2011 12:35

and anyways, he can dress exactly how he wants!!

Pan · 11/09/2011 12:37

leather trousers - I just couldn't.

Claw3 · 11/09/2011 12:45

Yes Stripey, leather trousers and handle bar tashes are sooooo yesterday, your dh should at least be aiming for this decade [meow]

malinois · 11/09/2011 12:55

Men should wear hats more often. And learn to doff them to passing ladies. I recommend buying the man in your life a subscription to The Chap

How about these <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/imgres?q=%22the+borgias%22&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&biw=1366&bih=605&tbm=isch&tbnid=xNHlO56asiIMUM:&imgrefurl=jeremyirons.net/2011/02/17/the-borgias-cast-photos/&docid=o5IfpS9AuvkojM&w=375&h=500&ei=LahsTvjaIsab8QP3wcwy&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=350&vpy=211&dur=630&hovh=131&hovw=93&tx=112&ty=174&page=2&tbnh=131&tbnw=93&start=22&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:22" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Renaissance sleeves that attach with straps?

flatbellyfella · 12/09/2011 10:00

Sarah S . I would present photographic evidence if I knew how to operate my modern world technology more than I do,(if that makes sence) .
Sadly I have to admit to having worn tight black leather Jean cut trousers & Brando style leather Bronx jacket to feel warm & safe on my motor cycles.

Claw3 · 12/09/2011 10:06

Oh god, Tiggy you actually took your picture down, i thought you were joking. I really didnt mean to offend you and apologises if you felt i did.

Whatmeworry · 12/09/2011 10:06

Codpieces. We need codpieces....

pinkytheshrinky · 12/09/2011 10:23

My Dh dresses beautifully i have to say - tailored suits or chinos/tweedy jackets and expensive shirts/ties and gorgeous shoes (very expensive but worth it) - he looks very smart indeed and very sexy (I may be biased) but a confident man wearing lovely clothes that fit well works for me every time.

FWIW we met when he was dressed in a Napoleonic hussars uniform with tight trousers, boots and spurs [droool] so he has form for dressing well

Even if he is casual he generally wears a nice shirt and always good shoes - and yes men are missing a trick by dressing like slobs (as some women are: don't even get me started on track suits and uggs)

Whatmeworry · 12/09/2011 10:33

(as some women are: don't even get me started on track suits and uggs)

Was going to say.... DH is convinced some women "dress for rejection"

Claw3 · 12/09/2011 10:38

Eek i might have to hide thread, as im still sitting here in Uggs which i threw on for the school run and will probably keep on for going shopping too. No track suit bottoms, is that enough to redeem myself!?

BupcakesandCunting · 12/09/2011 12:28

Ooooh, so happy that this thread is still going! I've been sniggering to myself at various intervals over the weekend at the thought of a man dressed as a highwayman turning up to ravish his woman in a Ford Focus. Grin

Just going to catch up now...
