Men are missing a trick by dressing SO BADLY

BellaneyMimphus · 09/09/2011 11:14

Overheard two American women on the bus discussing British male fashion.
Their inclination was that jogging bottoms should be burned and I agree.

Got me thinking that loads f women positively fantasise about certain kinds of male outfits: uniforms, britches, good boots, etc.
I'm not suggesting that men go out and get an officer's uniform and it's obviously not ok to suggest that men should dress "for" women, but what most men wear and what women like to see men wearing are totally different, would you agree?

AIBU to think men's fashion needs a bit of an overhaul anyway?

Waistcoats? Really? I used to wear them a lot but not any more. Do I need to buy one?

SupermassiveLBD · 09/09/2011 12:46

I think that all men should be made to go around dressed like Richard Armitage as Guy Of Gisborne.

I second that motion, Bupcakes. Highwaymen are good, too.

cheekeymonkey · 09/09/2011 12:47

Jack Sparrow.

[goes for a lie down]

giyadas · 09/09/2011 12:50

waistcoats - no ,no , no

FantasticVoyage · 09/09/2011 12:52

Being dressed as a highwayman may have its benefits, but I'm sure these would be quickly lost when the mode of transport is a Ford Focus.

CaveMum · 09/09/2011 12:55

DH is in the RAF so the No1s are in regular use Wink

I read an article last year saying that men should aspire to dress like Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock. here Behind that idea 110% Grin

I'm with Cavemum.

OH has a beautiful coat a bit like that but he saves it for 'best' sad git

giyadas · 09/09/2011 13:13

tweed waistcoats have been ruined for me by Vic Reeves.
It's gotta be a full suit or nothing.

giyadas · 09/09/2011 13:14

I mean full suit or something else entirely, not nothing as in naked.
Unless we're still talking Johnny Depp.

I have a gorgeous photo of DH in a waistcoat from a ball we went to. I'm joining the campaign for their everday wear!

giyadas · 09/09/2011 13:20

ok I admit those are nice ones.
Especially with the faded jeans.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 09/09/2011 13:21

I have never, and would never, have the sex with a man wearing an elasticated waistband

Sherlock styling is the way forwards.

tethersend · 09/09/2011 13:24

I have a very well dressed DP.

But he is French so, you know, swings and roundabouts.

GetOffOfMyCloud · 09/09/2011 13:26

I must be the luckiest lady alive. DH normally wears smart (not faded or grubby) jeans with neat t-shirts, and if we are going out he'll often wear a suit either with or without a tie depending on where we're going, and his shirts nearly always have cufflinks.

Sigh, I fall a little bit more in lust love every day!

BellaneyMimphus · 09/09/2011 13:42

Kerrymum would have it that he is gay, GetOffMyCloud.
I fancy your dh a little bit though.

OP posts:
Shodan · 09/09/2011 13:45

DH veers from gawjus (suits for work, dinner jacket for formals, occasionally with kilt) to totally wince-making (rugby shorts worn as everyday attire, coupled with twenty-year-old t-shirts or worse, golf shorts worn with ditto). He also firmly believes that 'lounging around the house' should be performed wearing only pants. Hmm

At least he doesn't wear flip-flops, which in my eyes should be made illegal for men. I haven't yet worked out what would be acceptable footwear for a warm summer's day for men, but it's not flip-flops.

Ewan McGreggor in a kilt and wooly jumper. And wooly socks with boots too. Nuff said.

dirtydishesmakemesad · 09/09/2011 14:20

i want dh to dress like a one of the wealthier characters off the tudors. He refuses. He has this thing about me wearing dungarees. I refuse.
