Men are missing a trick by dressing SO BADLY

Overheard two American women on the bus discussing British male fashion.
Their inclination was that jogging bottoms should be burned and I agree.

Got me thinking that loads f women positively fantasise about certain kinds of male outfits: uniforms, britches, good boots, etc.
I'm not suggesting that men go out and get an officer's uniform and it's obviously not ok to suggest that men should dress "for" women, but what most men wear and what women like to see men wearing are totally different, would you agree?

AIBU to think men's fashion needs a bit of an overhaul anyway?

limitedperiodonly, in my head, Johnny Boden's mummy was called Tippy or Plum and was eversoeversobreezyandtinkly and loved jumping in puddles and the whole Boden brand is his therapy.

No. They're thinking, 'comfortable'.

I am resigned to it round the house. Sigh.

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/09/2011 11:59

I dislike trackie bottoms on either sex, but must admit, i hate suits on a man.
They are just an establishment uniform (ooh get me) and boring as fuck.
I prefer a pair of jeans and a t shirt and slightly scruffy too.
I must admit I love to see ds (16) wearing his kilt at the school Christmas dance, but maybe that's just a Scottish thing.

Bellaney is my new favourite MN person.

That is all.

bellaney what distressed me was reading about his range of 'shag pants' that you pull down for ease of access to your lady. Cleaning the bath must be so romantic for Mrs Boden.

DP will NOT wear it, even around the house Angry

BedHog · 09/09/2011 12:27

I like a man in a codpiece.

Obviously with other appropriate attire accompanying it, might look a little strange wearing a codpiece over a pair of Nike trakkie bottoms!! Grin

BellaneyMimphus · 09/09/2011 12:28

Gosh Adam Ant was formative, wasn't he?

I like men who wears a suit well and with...sigh...clippy shoes.

Fizzy knickers a go go to hear the tap tapping down a corridor then see a broad shouldered hunk with a shirt positively straining across the chest and the confident twinkle that he's so masculine he can get away with wearing clippy shoes.

Kerry, what if he dresses better than average and is groomed in an ordinary sort of way? Hmm Too gay for you?

If all men were required to wear waistcoats, I would die a happy woman...

I don't understand why waistcoats went out of fashion, they are meltingly hot, and fit in with the geography teacher look mentioned below.

Mens shoes nowadays are simply ghastly.

BellaneyMimphus · 09/09/2011 12:38

I'd rather see 500 dandy mincers, Kerry, than one more man in grey joggers.

grovel you are right. What the effing chuff is UP with those dainty white trainer-slippers, for example?

I have tried for years to get DP to wear some decent sodding shoes. He favours the '1930's footballer look'.

Pair of Loakes? Nope

Desert boots? Nope

Deck shoes? Nope

Timberlands? Nope

Danny Blanchflower's rejects? Bring 'em on.

Hmm
giyadas · 09/09/2011 12:43

John Virgo's no-dad waistcoats can probably be blamed for their decline.
Nothing hot about them whatsoever.

allhailtheaubergine · 09/09/2011 12:44

I think everyone should wear 1950s clothes all the time.

me and dh (in my head).
