....and furthermore, to find the term 'mummy blogger' excruciating? Genuinely wondering if it's just me.

OP posts:
TrilllianAstra · 01/07/2011 14:17

I really need a spreadsheet,

I know that blog.

And I know it belongs to a MNer

And I knew it was someone cool

But I lost the link in my head between the two worlds

ShirleyKnot · 01/07/2011 14:19

'Tis I

(er, I'm coming down with a funny cold and it's making me be a bit weird, sorry)

TrilllianAstra · 01/07/2011 14:20

OK, think I have you sorted now :)

ShirleyKnot · 01/07/2011 14:27

Shirley i love your haunted cottage post were you not scared stiff Shock

ShirleyKnot · 01/07/2011 15:20

YES I BLOODY WAS!

It was a beautiful, beautiful place as well. They had a guestbook there and when I read it, everyone had put stuff like "A little piece of paradise, so peaceful and wonderful, Jonty and Emerald caught some minnows in the river!! "

My friend put "Lovely place, fab kitchen, Shirleyknot convinced it's haunted"

HA HA HA! Way to scare the shit out of the next lot of guests. Aw, I love her. I should put that bit in the blog actually. Grin

slug · 01/07/2011 15:36

Now this is my sort of Mummy blog.

TrilllianAstra · 01/07/2011 16:10

How bizarre!

I was just going to tell you all that if you like food blogs and swearing you might like this blog, and the most recent post is about MN.

Freaky...

Takver · 01/07/2011 16:24

Of course there are loads of crap blogs, but there are plenty of interesting ones out there. And I hate to say it (sorry MotherInferior) but plenty of the bloggers out there write pieces that are better researched and better written than a lot of print journalism.

I like Golem's blog, just for example.

They can also be a good way of sharing somewhat obscure information that is only going to be of interest to a few people (I like this blog about plant breeding, but I doubt many other MNers would find it that fascinating, and I reckon most of the comments on Radix come from people who know the author and his experiments.)

In a way, I guess plenty of blogs aren't that different from other alternative media (how many people read a paper version of Schnews' these days?)

MissFoodie · 01/07/2011 19:29

LOL
I write a blog, but it's very specific and no, it's not about motherhood -
I find blogs are like people, some you really admire, some you identify with, some you follow because the blogger has exactly the same taste as you....it just depends, but yes, there are loads of crappy ones, and I don't just mean the writing....nil content and crap photos....and pop ups....I HATE POP UPS

MmeLindor. · 01/07/2011 22:02

Can I just say a massive thank you to the OP and to Trillian for this thread, and for linking to my blog. I have had HUNDREDS of hits today, and haven't had to flog my blog around the place.

Do head on over to the Bloggers Network to find the other fab bloggers on MN.

Off to read the others that were linked to today.

DirtyMartini · 01/07/2011 22:11

I've had loads of page views from here too. Thank you OP! I'll be bereft when this thread dies a death Grin

MmeLindor. · 01/07/2011 22:20

Just looked at the other blogs linked (except the plant one, sorry) and there are some good ones. I read the Missy one before, but lost the link. And the Recipe one, and she has posted a recipe for my absolute favourite veg in the whole wide world, the humble aubergine. And she says I don't have to salt the buggers, so I love her lots.

NetworkGuy · 01/07/2011 22:44

I've found various blogs in the course of searching for 'gadgets' but it seems to me the marketing people are looking at Facebook, Twitter and Blogs as the places to best place links to products (as they're being paid to promote them).

I now treat a fair number of "positive" comments as if they are paid ads, rather than genuinely held views. If a comment is criticising some gadget, then clearly it's not from a "yes man" type and I will then consider looking more often at those blogs.

I don't think I could blog or post comments on Twitter/ FaceBook as I find lots of other things to be doing which take priority... afraid even TV takes priority :) (and I look at less than a dozen hours a week of TV).

millionsandmillions · 01/07/2011 22:46

ooh I am late to this

I agree MmeLindor's blog is very good

I agree there are some hideous mummyblogs out there - have read lots

but also some lovely ones

I will NOT follow this up by linking to my own because that would be just vain

I started my blog because of mumsnet, I think - I got used to putting things online, but started running out of space. I used to come on here a lot more. (An awful lot, the shame).

Cappster · 01/07/2011 22:59

Gah

That last post was me

It is I, Cappuccino

I/We started ours as we moved to the states when DD was only 3 months old, so it was primarily for family to keep track of what she was up to (one side of the family doesn't really care what we do, just DD). So result in blog is very boring, but have put in a few things about mine and DHs activities in there.

However I hate to be that person who only writes about their DCs so have been making it more personal and putting more of my character is (especially since DH has now lost interest). We're due to move back to the UK soon (although not in a town either family lives at) and I think I've plucked up the courage to have more random blogs in there. We need to change the title anyway.

Only problem is that I don't think I'll have much of a life and be too sleep deprived to have funny/interesting musings for a while yet.

So OP YANBU but try and keep it to myself so my feelings don't get too hurt Grin

MmeLindor. · 02/07/2011 06:19

Thanks Capp. Your's is one of my regular reads too. Love it

Penguin
That is how my blog started. Then I began writing more about other issues that interested me and less about our lives here and the dc. Mainly because my family all started using FB so it was easier to post photos there. I went through my blog a month or so ago and deleted a few of the earlier posts as I was getting worried about losing my anonymity. Might take some more out. when I look back, the first couple of posts are really boring and nothing like what I now write.

If anyone doesn't want to post their blog online but wouldn't mind PMing me a link, I am eternally nosy would love to read them.

DirtyMartini · 02/07/2011 08:37

Capp, I am curious about your blog now - please can you PM me a link if you don't want to post it here? :)

nevergonnahappen · 02/07/2011 10:36

blog if you want to or dont blog!! read them if you want nobody is forcing you into it!!! does mmelindor link to choocy freebies!!

worriermum · 02/07/2011 12:32

Have skipped through much of this thread but havent read it all, so please forgive me if these questions have already been answered. I am dying to get blogging and this thread has given me a little more courage to do so. But some questions first:

  • can i start a mumsnet blog somewhere ?it seems the MN blogging network now requires a blog that is already up and running. but is there some quiet and dusty corner where I can start building a blog, and then ask to join the MN network once I am up and running ?
  • If I visit someone's blog and leave a comment, can they see my email address ? (which is my RL name at gmail).
  • Can I start a MN blog under a different name, so that I can keep posting as worriermum without losing my anonymity ? Am very concerned about not posting anything exposing about my DC's, and dont want to feel inhibited about what I can post. ?

TIA

sungirltan · 02/07/2011 13:23

i have a blog which i dont write anymore in case i turn into a 'mummyblogger'. i have seen a few mummblogs - mostly because they constantly link on twitter 'ooh please come and hit my blog because im there doing a bit more boring product wankery because i've been sent a free sample blah blah'. there is one called 'simply hayley' and one called mostlyyummymummy' and a few more with variants on a theme. they all use a photo of a blythe doll as their header pic. they all wanked about that cybermummy thing too.

i used to write about dating which for some seemede quite entertaining. all i could write about now is being married and having dd which is dull unless you know us.

i only really read one blog now. a single girl in croydon who writee about her relationship in very angsty detail then moans if people give her advice. its hysterical and not in a good way.

a hack bf i had years back said 'blogging? wtf...it should be called narcisstics anonymous!'

blueshoes · 02/07/2011 13:54

That chicken blog did nothing for me. I remain unconvinced.
