....and furthermore, to find the term 'mummy blogger' excruciating? Genuinely wondering if it's just me.

FWIW, I find most amateur critics don't do critique with any more skill than most amateur writers display on blogs. Funny, that.

Oblomov · 29/06/2011 20:06

I don't get them. Why blog. same a facebook, why post every detail of your incredibly boring life.
Noone's life is particulalry interesting really.

DirtyMartini · 29/06/2011 20:09

Not every blogger is blogging about his/her own life, though. There are blogs about all sorts of topics/projects/areas of research.

Lots of people seem to be slagging all blogs as if they are "lifeblogger" type endeavours, which is not the case.

DM
Wahahahaha at the Koi blog. Are they for real? Surely not.

Thanks for the blog compliment. I agree with you that the most interesting blogs are those where the blogger does not concentrate solely on their life, and the life of their DC.

I like MmeGuillotine's blog - she writes about history, specifically art history.

But, you know what. I am not going to spend my evening linking to blogs I like in an effort to persuade those who have already made up their minds that there are good blogs out there.

It is like saying, "I find most books incredibly boring" because you read a couple of boring books.

Those who like blogs are welcome to come over to the Bloggers Network on MN and have a nosy around.

I am off to write a scintillating blog post about a recipe for lamb carre.

queenmaeve · 29/06/2011 20:20

Some of the interiors blogs are amazing. Cant link on phone but The Shabby Nest is one that springs to mind. Great ideas for the home. And the foody ones are brilliant. Maybe the people who dont like them have just clicked on a few and been quickly turned off.

queenmaeve · 29/06/2011 20:22

Mme guillotene!! Thats the name I couldnt think of! Hers is great.

MoreBeta · 29/06/2011 20:25

A weblog is really just what it says on the tin. A log (diary) written on the internet. Mostly people write for their own personal creative pleasure like, painting, knitting or making pots. Keeping a diary or a log is a lost art that many people used to pursue in past times. Its a shame that so few blogs - which are a rich source of social history - will never be preserved in paper form for people in the future to read.

LauLauLemon · 29/06/2011 20:28

It's not just you. I find most blogs to be insanely boring but there are two that I religiously follow and have done for years. These two never fail to make me smile.

I haven't a clue how to link and I don't intend to find out right now Wine.

www.girlsgonechild.net
and
www.dooce.com

Their books are fab too.
[shamelessly promoting even though they don't know I exist emoticon]

I have a blog (link in my profile), I'm sure it's badly written but, like davidtennantsgirl it's mainly for myself and close friends and family look at it to see how I'm doing with my prozac withdrawal, one or two people have e mailed me to say they read it and relate to it and found it useful for them, and I find it useful to look back and see how I have progressed, I started off with a paper journal but didn't keep it up and somehow find it a lot easier to keep up with on computer. It's probably only of interest to others who have had mental health issues / problems withdrawing.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 29/06/2011 21:57

Oblomov - MoreBeta and strawberry are right. As far as I am concerned, my blog is an online diary-cum-therapy journal (as I said), and I really don't care if anyone reads it or not. It's the easiest way I've found to keep a journal and explore the issues around my depression. My life isn't that interesting, but it is better than the alternative (which I have actively considered in the past).

Has anyone mentioned GentleOtter's blog yet:

gentleotterblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/sheep.html

It's lovely - she's an MNer who was seriously snowed in with no water supply during the winter and started the blog then. Warm and honest writing.

queenmaeve · 29/06/2011 22:37

Gentleotters blog is really good reading

DirtyMartini · 29/06/2011 22:40

I mentioned it too! She has a fan base, for sure.

Salmotrutta · 29/06/2011 23:13

Sorry DirtyMartini - I didn't realise you'd mentioned it ....... and I did read the thread - honest! Grin

I love her blog......... possibly because (I think) she lives in the same region and I can relate to her writing.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 29/06/2011 23:23

Really enjoyed reading the Gentleotter's blog, such a descriptive writer and fantastic pictures. Thanks for the link. :)

DirtyMartini · 29/06/2011 23:33

Wasn't meaning to tick you off Salmo, sorry! Anyway I forgot to link it so it's a good thing you did so. I just wanted to join the cluster of GO love in adjacent posts :)

BootyMum · 29/06/2011 23:39

The Cherry blog is pants. So self satisfied.

Quite enjoyed a couple of the others though.

How do you find them?

Salmotrutta · 29/06/2011 23:39

MmeLindor. · 29/06/2011 23:39

It is my favourite blog, so well written and full of humour.

And she is a really lovely person.

Salmotrutta · 29/06/2011 23:41

Oh - and you didn't tick me off DirtyMartini - I was apologising for not realising you'd mentioned GO's blog. Smile
