To find most blogs oh so bloggy boring...

....and furthermore, to find the term 'mummy blogger' excruciating? Genuinely wondering if it's just me.

OP posts:
mintymellons · 01/07/2011 10:51

I agree even though I have my own mummyblog.

I try to keep mine a bit tongue in cheek and not in any way preachy or 'how brilliant am I?'. I also cover topics other than motherhood, although as a SAHM, that does creep in too.

The thing is, if you don't want to read, you don't have to.

Hullygully · 01/07/2011 10:52

paranoid green. a brand new delight from f&b

ShirleyKnot · 01/07/2011 10:52

It's easy Hully. EASY! If I can do it, anyone can (uh - how did you get to mine then? I haven't linked it on this thread? )

green - I think it depends on what you're trying to achieve. I blog just for, well, just a bit of a laugh really. I am always aware that anyone can read it, and so I don't put stuff like "I FUCKING HATE MY JOB IT SUCKS"...

Idea for latest post.

Hullygully · 01/07/2011 10:58

You put it on the join the mn blog thing fred. I felt it was v eleitist that you had to have a blog to join the blog thing. pah.

How do you do it then?

Hullygully · 01/07/2011 10:58

elitist

ShirleyKnot · 01/07/2011 11:01

Ah there are LOTS of platforms ands it depends what sort of a thing you're wanting to do. There is a bunch of good stuff on the Bloggers topic.

greencolorpack · 01/07/2011 11:02

Hullygully no, but I was utterly hated on another parenting website, so being on this one is a bit like wandering into enemy territory for me, I'm trying my best to behave and not get in trouble again. I keep my eye on the door at all times. Ready to bolt if necessary. Not MI6, would that I were that interesting.

Shirley, fair enough. For me personally I just couldn't get the hang of writing about things that interested me/posting something that someone who knows me might read and by scandalised by. If you're writing for an audience and spend the whole time being anodyne and polite and bland, you can't really say anything interesting. I'm anodyne on Facebook. I find it hard. Sometimes I just delete everything and say nothing on status messages cos IRL life is so bleeding depressing and Facebook's so relentlessly upbeat. I couldn't do a blog. I have tried, and got followers and then I gave up. I'm too volatile a presence online, can never fully persuade myself that it's worthwhile reaching out to people. Sheesh I sound depressed today. Six weeks of school holidays, three kids relentlessly underfoot, is looming.

queenmaeve · 01/07/2011 11:03

agree with what hengsham said about the childrens thoughts on this. I dont really write that much about my dc as I would hate to think they might be teased for it in teenage years. Once its out on the web its there forever. Imagine some teenage boys printing out a cutesy story or pic about my ds when he was little and bringing it into school, ds would be mortified. also i'm the first to say my blog is not at all well written, I am not good at writing at all, but I am quite good at crafts and stuff and so my blog is really just a sharing of ideas.

Hullygully · 01/07/2011 11:03

you need drugs, green. uppers.

greencolorpack · 01/07/2011 11:06

Dwugs, give me dwugs! I've got the office Christmas party happening tonight. (Six months too late!) I may over-imbibe the wine and be thoroughly refreshed. Long overdue. It was meant to happen in December but the weather was bad.

SloganLogan · 01/07/2011 11:36

YABU. Why shouldn't someone write about what interests them? It's a free country. They're probably not aiming their blogs at you anyway - they're hoping likeminded people will enjoy them. If you don't like them, just don't read them.

karamina · 01/07/2011 12:00

I can't bear the term m*mmyblogger. It makes me want to hurl things at the screen.

I have a blog. I also happen to have children. I write. I happen to have children. Does that make me a mummywriter?

oohlaalaa · 01/07/2011 13:01

YABU. I love reading blogs. Thank you to all the lovely ladies who blog. Still meaning to start my own.

Pinkjenny · 01/07/2011 13:03

nickschick - Cherry whatsherface is just trying to be Kelle Hampton. Her blog is a total rip off of hers.

Anyway, I love blogs. Kelle Hampton is my guilty pleasure, although she makes me feel incredibly inadequate.

Pinkjenny · 01/07/2011 13:03

Also, ShirleyKnot's blog is fab. I would like to live in her playhouse.

BitOfFun · 01/07/2011 13:19

Shirley's is my favourite, I think. But the Bloggess is a close second. They are the only ones I read.

Pinkjenny · 01/07/2011 13:25

Not spoken to you in ages.

Hopefully · 01/07/2011 13:27

I love reading blogs. Like someone else said, they kind of stand in for magazines (am too poor to buy actual paper magazines) - can get fashion advice, crafty ideas for kids, sewing instructions etc. I find that once you find a blog you like, it links to another that's good, and so on and so on until you have 173 blogs in your Google Reader.

I also have a blog, mostly on hand making (clothes sewing for me and the DC, bit of quilting), a little bit of eco-living and the inevitable odd photo of my children. I really like being part of an online community of likeminded people, and have received plenty of useful information/advice/tips from commenters.

The phrase Mummy Blogger makes me want to chew off my own arm.

ShirleyKnot · 01/07/2011 13:44

Thankyou BOFFY and Pink (You can come and live in the shed Grin)

fustyarse · 01/07/2011 13:53

Missing Missy

This has been linked to before on here (that's how I found it) and I swear to God it gets funnier each time I read it.

LOVE 'knock knock, motherfucker', genuinely laughed out loud at that one - thanks for linking to it! Have favourited her.

And, and we haven't seen her for a while, sew liberated - can't help myself, I like her and her lovely lifestyle.

BitOfFun · 01/07/2011 13:58

I love 27/ whatever he calls it. It makes me weep laughing.

ShirleyKnot · 01/07/2011 14:07

yeah, I always forget his address - slash B or something..here found it. Been pretty quiet there lately.

I tell you who I used to LURVE - Hilary Fortnum - I'm struggling to find him now though Sad

TrilllianAstra · 01/07/2011 14:08

Ou est votre blog Shirl?

(haven't read whole thing if you have a link earlier)

ShirleyKnot · 01/07/2011 14:10

Party Spanner There you go Trills.

pointydog · 01/07/2011 14:17

I've only looked at about six blogs (including a couple on here).

I'm too impatient. I can't be doing with it. It definitely bores me.
