Today I have read a comment that someone's potential home looks like "a council house on a sink estate," seen a debate about "chav fashion," vile comments about "Poor Kids" etc and seen numerous threads over the past few days where people fight to gang up together against the infesting lower orders with their bad grammar, poor articulation, txt spk and poor spelling.

WTF people?

It is snobbery. Nothing else.

MadamMemoo · 08/06/2011 20:56

No strandedbear that hasn't

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/06/2011 20:56

Lot of not terribly nice stuff on mn at the moment. Tis why I stick to S&B - only so mean one can be about a waterfall cardigan or a very plain blue dress Wink

Hullygully · 08/06/2011 20:57

and?

stop being cunts. Embrace people for what they are and try and help them. Stop the sneering.

that's surely a good thing. it means the poor, ugly chav types get hounded away, leaing the place all clea and tidy for the rich classier types like me.

unfortuately being rich and classy does not mean i can type

southeastastra · 08/06/2011 20:59

i'll stop being angry about the class divide when life in britain is fair thanks Grin

Hullygully · 08/06/2011 20:59

No it's not a bloody good thing. . It's demonising the poor which makes it easy not to see them as fellow human beings and blame them for their own poverty and lack of education. It's so fucking regressive.

There have always been sneery council house comments on MN

I've challenged them 100s of times

southeastastra · 08/06/2011 20:59

blimey style and beauty is the cause of the kerfuffle i reckon

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/06/2011 21:00

Blows a kiss back Smile

Seriously though I do think some people have confused the famous mn straight-talking with just being complete knobs.

Was pondering the other day whether it was because of recession etc that a lot of people were very stressed/unhappy so come on here and give some poor posters a metaphorical kicking to make themselves feel better in some twisted way.

AtYourCervix · 08/06/2011 21:00

round and round in circles.

Hullygully · 08/06/2011 21:00

I think it's worse now, it's become acceptable.

There does seem to be more just lately though

I blame the Torys .but then I blame them for everything

Popbiscuit · 08/06/2011 21:01

Some of the responses on the house thread made me very Sad for the OP. Not nice.

In RL I treat people how I would hope to be treated myself, no matter who they are and no matter how much money they have - I agree that on both sides there have been some fairly judgemental threads recently

Hullygully · 08/06/2011 21:02

Good point, MD

OiYouThere · 08/06/2011 21:02

I agree Hully. I read loads but dont post much becuse of it tbh. For example, there is a MN meetup in the works that I would love to go to, but cant afford it with three children plus me as entrance fees, plus train :( And I thought that house was fine!

But then I am one of those lower class types so they probably dont want me there anyway! Grin

DialsMavis · 08/06/2011 21:03

But isn't it a bit snobby to think that shit spelling and grammar = working class? I am ever so slighlty well fucking posh but type like an illiterate warthog.

usualsuspect · 08/06/2011 21:05

There was a thread on here not long ago from someone who wouldn't buy a house because it looked like a council house

made me Angry

I'm not nuts about the assumption that poor people can't spell. I'm sure lots of very rich, very middle class people make mistakes with spelling and grammar. Mocking the illiterate is not necessarily mocking the lower classes.
