Today I have read a comment that someone's potential home looks like "a council house on a sink estate," seen a debate about "chav fashion," vile comments about "Poor Kids" etc and seen numerous threads over the past few days where people fight to gang up together against the infesting lower orders with their bad grammar, poor articulation, txt spk and poor spelling.

WTF people?

It is snobbery. Nothing else.

Trufax, tethers, but isn't it depressing? The glee, the gleeful snobbery is just so vile.

I agree tethers.

Hully I had a browse around after reading your OP and you're right, there are some nasty sneering comments out there, tis not all simply lol-bashing. I think I'll keep to fluffy topics for a while, or the telly. Or I might even do the laundry Shock

carltonscroop · 08/06/2011 22:17

I started the thread asking about Eton.

It's no different to any parent asking for insights into a school that they are considering. And there are many of them - for all sectors and types of school (named or described). I wasn't asking if it was a "good school" (whatever that means), but what it was really like.

Why should someone be self conscious about wanting help in making a parenting decision we all face and many ask about? (I think I'm beginning to channel Shylock!) Or is there really a consensus that an acceptable enquiry for the majority should be banned for some on the basis of perceived class?

Hullygully · 08/06/2011 22:17

I think people have just lost their way a little and forgotten lovingkindness, peace and tolerance, acceptance and inclusiveness.

Let us hope love and glitter can help.

I agree carlton, absolutely nothing wrong with your thread, it was baout your thoughts and choices and in no way blamed/sneered at others for theirs.

smc, just as there are shitloads of rich people who abuse the system legally.

However, this is not what this thread is about. This is about sneering and nastiness and snobbery.

I'm new and there is a very snobbish attitute on here.
But the thing that amuses me is that it seems to come from some very indulged housewives who happened to marry the right person and have snobbery by proxy.

I have read some reviews on my local area and I laughed out loud - I have even referred a few friends to the site just to laugh at these people and their attitudes.

would we be so judgemental and look down our mn noses if dh didn't work and fund our lifestyles......

Hullygully · 08/06/2011 22:22

Now grasscutter, you are falling into the trap. Their lives are their choices, we judge not nor sneer. And we ask that they extend the same courtesy to others.

That we all do. We are all human beings trying our best to get through our three score years and ten. We need to help and love each other.

hmmm..and so we have reverse snobbery @Bee...facts are we all are snobbish or have opinions about others who do not conform to our interpretation or ideal..such is fucking life!..what i hate is people who pretend they are above it all..what you have to have is open mind ...

Hullygully · 08/06/2011 22:23

Hully

I have to agree. I have hidden nine threads this week because I could not look at them. One poster started a thread that encouraged people to laugh at some people on a tv show.

She had it withdrawn pronto and then joined a thread sneering at people who laughed at the people on the same tv show. Hmm

It is all very simple there are really only two classes of people nowadays

Working class that is people who actually work at something the triers the manual workers and the rocket scientists people who earn there own way in the world the people who do their share for themselves and others.

Then there is the Parasite Class which includes everyone from the sham benefit fiddlers to the bone bloody idle aristos who were born with there bums on velvet cushion and have never done a days work in their bloody lives.

tethersend · 08/06/2011 22:32

swc, I too was about to come back to you about some points you made.

But 'you lefties' sort of killed it.
