Stuff the Royal Wedding more important to remember is the 96 innocent people that died at Anfield after the disaster struck spare a thought for those and their families instead of the stuck up twats and there stupid pathetic wedding

But those who rushed in at the back - many had been delayed by roadworks, all had been told to get there early, they needn't have rushed in had anyone had the sense to delay the kick off, etc. There was a combination of factors. Still it is not true to say that these fans were 'as much or more to blame' than the police- they were not responsible for managing the crowd, they were the crowd. There was a failure to police the situation safely and adequately. The crowd at the back had no idea of what was happening before them, how could they?

IPOAT

Northernlurker · 15/04/2011 23:36

Hillsborough anniversarys have been marked at various points and received a lot of media coverage. This year there is no high profile event. That's just how news works. Next year there won't be extensive coverage of Wills and Kate's anniversary either. News ebs and flows. It doesn't mean that people don't remember.

Shoesytwoesy · 15/04/2011 23:37

WTF has the royal wedding got to do with this tragedy??
sorry but It makes no sense to me.
I remember how horrific the terrible tragedy was,(only by what I saw in the press) but it has nothing to do with a royal wedding

charleneanne · 15/04/2011 23:38

how many times do i have to explain it

OP posts:
charleneanne · 15/04/2011 23:40

LESS MEDIA COVERAGE OF A STUPID WEDDING FOR ONE DAY FOR MEDIA COVERAGE AND SYMAPTHYS TO A DISASTER FGS HAS NO ONE GOT A HEART

OP posts:
fortyplus · 15/04/2011 23:40

What about the fact that football stadiums re now all-seat? So this kind of tragedy that took place on the terraces should never happen again. Surely that's the most fitting memorial to the 96? Lessons were learned and crowds are safer as a result.

Scant consolation for those who lost someone that day though.

fortyplus · 15/04/2011 23:42

charleneanne there's no connection between the 2. It's not as though the wedding is taking place on the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster

Shoesytwoesy · 15/04/2011 23:42

charleneanne so will all football matches at the weekend be having a minutes silence?

charleneanne · 15/04/2011 23:42

Steven Gerrards 10 year old nephew was the youngest to die someone picked him up and begge the police to get him out after a while they did but it was to late the youngest victim was 10 years old fgs his mom was waiting at home for him

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 15/04/2011 23:47

Of course people have hearts. Nobody has said they don't wish to remember Hillsborough. Charleneanne - you are really making an absurd link here and your aggressive posting does your arguement (such as it is) mo favours.

charleneanne · 15/04/2011 23:48

Northernlurker am really sorry but this is something that means a lot ot me and hubby

OP posts:
Einstein2 · 15/04/2011 23:49

Northernlurker

Agreed

Shoesytwoesy · 15/04/2011 23:51

charleneanne I can understand that from what you posted.
but there is no link between the 2 events, a thread asking people to remember the terrible loss of life would have got you nothing but support

charleneanne · 15/04/2011 23:51

Shoesytwoesy yes i agree with you

OP posts:
sayithowitis · 15/04/2011 23:52

I remembered the date. Not because of Hillsborough, but because it was on that day that I had my second MC and was in hospital hoping and praying that I wasn't going to MC the other twin. I spent the afternoon listening to the news on the radio. Yes, I am sad for those who died, but I am sadder for my own baby who died that day.

YANBU for asking people to give a thought to what happened, but like the majority on here, I cannot see any connection with the royal wedding and the vitriol you have directed towards them does you no credit.

charleneanne · 15/04/2011 23:53

sending true sympathy for your loss

OP posts:
Shoesytwoesy · 15/04/2011 23:55

charleneanne my brother is an ardent football fan(won't mention team) when I think back to that time and Bradford, I am always so gratefull to still have him

sayithowitis · 15/04/2011 23:57

Thank you Sad

duckypoo · 16/04/2011 02:40

I do kind of get the royal wedding thing (in a tenuous way). The media love to blurb on about non events such as this, at the expense of actual news. Look at the whole Japan/fukushima thing, fell off the news after erm a week. The whole fukushima thing is ongoing, it isn't solved, it's still spewing out radiation, despite the assurance that all is well and good, radiation isn't actually harmful blah blah after all, it was upgraded to a 7, same as chernobyl, small bit on the bbc website, after all the Libya yadayada.

If something like that can slide from peoples attention within a couple of weeks, Hillsbrough isn't likely to get a look in.

That was a very tragic day and I hope it doesn't happen again. We learnt about it in school and had to write a paper on it.

Op. Your comments are totally out of order. You really should have some respect for the monarchy. Without them this country would be in a worse state than it already is. We would probably have countries bombing us. They peace keep if you don't know what that means then you should do some research before you cast assumptions on them.
I am going to hide this now as it has really touched a nerve
