It's our 10th wedding anniversary at the end of this year. Instead of a party, we thought it would be nice to hire an old vicarage for 14 friends and family. I phoned my SIL to run the idea by her, all excited as this place has lettle beds up in the eaves and is a childrens haven. She has always been very dour, sour and unforthcoming. She is always in a bad temper and snapping at the children. My MIL does everyting she can to make things nice, she bought a pony for SIL daughter, but all SIL does is whinge and moan about "That fucking pony" and is sour face about having to take her daughter riding. I don't think mIL needs this shit, as my FIL has motor neurone and is deteriorating.
I just thought it would be nice for us all to get together for a weekend in november. When i excitedly told my SIL about it, and how we have 10 other friends coming to stay too and what a fun night we would have on the saturday - all she could say was "Well, my kids won't go to sleep at 7.30pm." (our DD goes to sleep then - shes almost two)
Her children are 7 and 10. they run around until1 am.
AIBU it think that she might have shared my enthusiasm? That she might have silently thought - how nice to be invited, i'll make sure the girls stay upstairs because the staurdau night is their anniversary and no one wants kids running round when grown ups are having a bit of a drink/party. My DH was furious with me for inviting her. I just thought it would be a nice family thing to do.

why not try naked twister once the little ones have gone to bed? Always gets the party started. You could go to Hobby craft and make a patchwork quilt twister board.

sounds like she is really hard work- however you have to accept that if she has always been like this, that you are not going to change her.

seriously i would revoke the invite- whilst you have time for her to get over the hump. she is going to be miserable regardless- you might as well have the weekend you want.

phone her- tell here there are loads of people that want to go, she didnt sound that interested so can she clarify whether she wants to celebrate with you or not.

and in future, do not invite her in the first place to events like this. i have a number of sisters in law and the like that i have a strict allocation of time and effort that i will put in.

Changing2011 · 05/04/2011 19:13

CCM - you are going to come across slides such as Naked-Twister-Gate so you might as well get everyone nice and relaxed and on the same level.

I reckon some of your slides would make a whore blush you wholesome country momma you.

hairfullofsnakes · 05/04/2011 19:42

Yabu for inviting her

Stop being a matyr!

squeakytoy · 05/04/2011 19:47

I got told I didnt have a "caring bone in my body" Hmm ... nice sweeping assumption by the martyr Op there..

BitOfFun · 05/04/2011 20:14

Has the OP got a reputation from other threads or something? I don't understand why everybody is being so nasty? Confused

Cunty, if you think you are going to be banned, you might as well tell is who you usually are. For the spreadsheet.

usualsuspect · 05/04/2011 20:21

Really bof ? its ok for her to be nasty

Bogeyface · 05/04/2011 20:26

She got nasty BOF when she didnt hear what she wanted to, you can hardly blame people for retaliating! This seems fairly lightweight compared to some of the flamings I have seen in response to an OPs hissyfits!

BitOfFun · 05/04/2011 20:28

I haven't seen her deleted posts, no. But she did say she was a bit fragile in her OP, and she was getting a bit of a twatting, nevertheless.

MrsBananaGrabber · 05/04/2011 21:22

The OP is Cherry Menlove Grin

hairfullofsnakes · 05/04/2011 21:45

Whats going on in this thread?! I'm confused!

CarnivalBizarre · 05/04/2011 22:38

It would seem it is half term again then eh?

All the trolls are out in force Angry

Can't believe the nastiness that has been posted on this thread tonight, never is anyones life cut and dried and all the OP tried to do was bring a family together for a nice weekend for her wedding anniversary ...possibly the last one for her FIL and she has been met with vitriol from some very childish posters

Some folk need to grow the fuck up or go and use the flame halls to relieve themselves of their nasty opinions of people

CotswoldCountryMummy · 05/04/2011 23:15

Don't be cross on my behalf CarnivalBizarre :-) The lot of them are just laughable. They're so busy trying to stuff words in my mouth and making retarded comments lilke; "You want your SIL to be jealous of you!" "The world doesn't revolve around you!" "You need to stop interfering in the mother/daughter relationship" ........hilarious..
The best one, and most Freudian, was the one from CotswaldCuntyMummy
purporting to be me with the line
"I'm too jealous fending off jealous attackers on Mumsnet!"

Who said anything about jealous attackers? Not me.
Put her foot in it there didn't she? haha. :-)

Leave them to it, with any luck they'll choke on their own venom

ANd problem solved btw - we're having two trips away - One for the family, and one for us and our friends.

Best all round - none of our friends were overly keen on SIL coming anyway. They've seen what she's like and they're not great fans......

CotswoldCountryMummy · 05/04/2011 23:19

sorry - made a typo cos i'm tired...
the actual classic line from cotswald cunty was
""I'm too busy fending off jealous attackers on MN"

haha. so funny. talk about a freudian slip! Are you enjoying having your big fat foot in your mouth cotswald cunty?? hehee.... :-)
