Benefit Bashing

A mum I know and her DP with two children live in a two bed (nice) HA house. Neither of them work and have not worked for as long as I've known them (two years) I don't know about before then. She has told me they are trying for another baby, not to get a bigger house or anything, just because they want four children eventally. I would love four children but can't have that many because for one we just can't afford four.

AIBU to feel a bit pissed off that they can have more children and I can't or am I just a jealous benefit basher.

ps They are both nice and don't have a flatscreen TV.

TSC - still no answer from herself then Grin A whole 5 minutes of working & paying taxes (if she ever did) and she feels superior?? Really, you have to laugh.

I note she's taken her profile pics down.

Portofino · 19/02/2011 23:23

Nah. I only share on t'interweb, that what I am happy for all to read, see and share.

Wook · 19/02/2011 23:24

BeertricksPotter agree, Izal is horrid, had it at school.
Like that neat distraction trick, used to use it as a child when parents were arguing :)

KazBarTheFriendlyGhost · 19/02/2011 23:24

so much for being proud of the way she looks, I'm disappointed actually. I at least thought she would stand her ground.

Oh well

KazBarTheFriendlyGhost · 19/02/2011 23:25

and what the hell is Izal..??

BitOfFun · 19/02/2011 23:27

Tracing paper that you wipe your bum with, Kaz.

Porto - nothing to do with being Mummy's only girl/child? WinkGrin She will be a delightful teenager I'm sure!

TSC - nothing to do with their common denominator I don't suppose? Wink

oh dear a fight has broken out..but i've been thinking about this thread all day.. MillyR's words really stuck in my head..

I simply think that as a society we have a responsibility to pay for primary carers (usually the mother) to raise their children. I don't care if someone is a single mother because she got pregnant by accident, on purpose, whether her partner died, left her, left her when she was 8 weeks pregnant or when the child was 8 weeks old.
I am happy to pay for people to do the job of raising children.
I cannot be arsed with all this hair splitting over who is and is not a deserving single mother. They are all deserving

just home from a dinner thing and shared this view with some very 'isolated' thinkers..super rich indian industrialist/old old skool country gentry/modern day high flyers/liberal consultant/female lay preacher conservative type..and everyone agreed with the sentiment finally. i just had to share as MillyR was fighting her corner but noone was persuaded!

im not happy to pay for other people to stay at home and raise children

im not

Tortington · 20/02/2011 00:10

but agree firmly with tsc point about the rich pulling the biggest heist.

Portofino · 20/02/2011 00:11

I prefer to think of deserving children rather than deserving parents. Some parents are truly not deserving. But all children deserve a chance.

NoSuchThingAsSociety · 20/02/2011 00:11

TheSecondComing - 'hate'? Really? I can imagine Jews hating the Nazis, or Sarah Payne's parents hating paedophiles...but for you to 'hate' DM readers?

How about a sense of proportion?

Are you not able to dislike just the opinion instead of its proponent?

countless · 20/02/2011 00:14

but if you look at it from their vantage point they're bemused that people are so preoccupied squabbling amongst themselves about minor issues they do nothing to alter the bigger picture that determines their lives

portofino - exactly the conclusion reached by my friends tonight. all children deserve a minimum state help

Portofino · 20/02/2011 00:19

Custy - I agree, but I disapprove more of those that don't want to, vs those that can't find a suitable job.

I wish the UK would do the Belgian thing og schools open til 6, and use the buildings/staff/students to cover the holidays. It is not rocket science.

Wook · 20/02/2011 00:19

portofino I see it like that too (deserving children)
Also agree about the biggest heist-
850 billion to the banks
1.5 billion in unpaid tax
Look at Barclays today- good grief!

16 billion in unclaimed benefits btw

Wook · 20/02/2011 00:20

Ah, it's pascoe!!!

Tortington · 20/02/2011 00:22

£5.37 if those benefits are mine

thats what i am entitled to after working my arse of all my life

i can't be fucked filling in a form for that

princessstarla · 20/02/2011 00:22

Ok, I'm back for this post. I de-regged through anger, by the way, that's why my profile disappeared.

TSC- I apologise for what I said to you, it was wrong, and I shouldn't have said things in the heart of the moment. You may or may not accept, but I generally do not use abusive language. Believe it or not.

But I will say this. All of the people who decided to gang up, call me a poledancer, slut, ugly, whatever- I really don't understand why my looks and pictures were brought into this in the 1st place.
