Multiculturalism has failed

Now whilst i believe the debate itself has merit ( though think that DC has put a rather disturbing anti islamic slant on it)
I do not think it the wisest day to do so given that there is a planned march by the English Defence League (think BNP with more hair) today

march in Luton

No, it doesn't, as I happen to be mixed race. Which by default in your eyes, must make me a 'foreigner'. Even though England is the only home I have ever known and half my heritage is from here.

usualsuspect · 06/02/2011 13:25

Most of the EDL are so fucking stupid they wouldn't know a muslim if they fell over one ...my sons Sikh friends went on the counter march yesterday and got called muslim scum by the twats

Mr Camerons speech was ill timed or was it?

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 13:25

And I have never said I am against mass immigration. I am concerned about it. There's a difference.

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 13:26

Ugh, usualsupect, I can't stand people who are so ignorant like that.

mrsgetonwithit · 06/02/2011 13:27

If you were born here you are not a foreigner.

How can one of your parents be foreign and you are against mass imigration.

OTheHugeManatee · 06/02/2011 13:27

EDL people are the same type of cretin as the Americans who believe Barack Obama is a Muslim Communist.

There's no arguing with people like that.

giveitago · 06/02/2011 13:28

I'm very content with multiculturalism as I knew it but I think many of migrants of late either do not or cannot buy into it.

Also many brits are now fearful as the media is on the rampage and not helped with the new administration we have. But I'd say the most bigoted people I know against 'foreigners' are actually other 'foreigners' and that makes me worry for the future of the country.

noddyholder · 06/02/2011 13:31

I am what would be considered a wooly liberal guardian type by some and although his speech was clumsy it is something that does need to be addressed. It is a shame it has such an anti muslim slant though.I think this is because the most immediate threat is from extremists of this religion.Largely the situation in northern ireland has been 'dealt' with in as much as there are laws in place and tables have been sat round where the issue has been thrashed out This has not yet happened with extreme islamists.Your everyday citizen who just happens to be a muslim is every bit as incensed by these people as anyone else but because these people have very little exposure in the media your average person doesn't know this and lumps all muslims in together.

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 13:32

Because I don't agree with the 'open door' policy of letting everyone and their uncle in! My grandparents came over to WORK for a better life, just like millions of immigrants after them.

What I don't agree with is the ones who come over to use and abuse our benefit system and the NHS and not put a penny back into the country!

That is how I can be opposed to it, just like you can. The difference is, I don't hate these people because of their skin colour like you do.

gordyslovesheep · 06/02/2011 13:34

yes the whole Obama issue Grin not only do they think he is Muslim they also think he talks about being muslim too much Grin you couldn;t make it up - sadly!

usualsuspect · 06/02/2011 13:35

Don't come and live here than Mrsbigotgetonwithit

I live in a very multicultural city ..It seems to me there is loads of integration here ..different cultures should be embraced not feared

gordyslovesheep · 06/02/2011 13:36

who comes in and abuses the benefit system - immigrants on the whole can't claim benefits

My Australian mate had 'no recource to public funds' stamped on her papers

many do infact work and pay TAX - hence the whole 'comming here and taking our jobs' bollox

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 13:38

Oh for fuck's sake Gordy, of course there are immigrants who come over and abuse the benefits system.

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 13:41

Don't tell me that EVERY SINGLE IMMIGRANT who comes over here wants to work! Just like there are British people who are fucking lazy and don't want to work, there will be immigrants who want to do the same!

And for the record, I don't agree with the scroungers who were born here doing it either!

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 13:42

If you'd actually bothered readin my post I said-

My grandparents came over to WORK for a better life, just like millions of immigrants after them.

I'm not stupid, I know that many do come over and work and pay tax.

gordyslovesheep · 06/02/2011 13:43

but you CAN'T claim benefits if you are an imigrant

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 13:48

Wrong. EU immigrants can claim Jobseeker's Allowance, Pension Credit, Employment Support Allowance and Income Support.

giveitago · 06/02/2011 13:52

Yes you can if you are an eu national and here for short period of time (and it's the easiest thing to pretend you've been here for a while).

FFS my mil who is overseas who was never educated, cannot speak the official language of her country and cannot locate london on a map (where her ds and dgc live) knows loads about the benefit system of a country she has no interest in why? Because many of her village pals have come over, claimed, found the way around the system and written the manual and told all their mates about it.

AFEICA · 06/02/2011 13:53

immigrant have rights too but what about gypsys?

dobiegirl · 06/02/2011 13:56

You can claim loads of benefits as an asylum seeker too. My ex Albanian boyfriend (pretending to be a Kosovan) used to get everything paid in his flat, at the time me and my little daughter used to go round to his house at night because he had the heating on IN EVERY ROOM (all paid for by NAS) whilst I could barely manage to afford my gas fire on in the living room.

Boy did I used to be jealous of him!!! Grin

gordyslovesheep · 06/02/2011 13:58

yes but they are EU members - it's reciprocated - we can claim benefits in EU countries

softglowsandmaybes · 06/02/2011 13:59

Afeica, i think its a different issue - of course gypsies have rights its just that their issues are slightly different. Sadly no one is wanting to accept gypsies :(

I think we live in frightening times and if we don't embrace each other in some way, there is going to be a bitter price to pay :( and there will be fault on all sides

dobiegirl · 06/02/2011 14:02

You can't embrace people who don't want to be embraced, there are some folks in this country who certainly don't want to be embraced by Local people anyway!!

They want to live in thier own little communities, doing what they want without any bother from the rest of us, integrate, assimilate - STOP BEING RACIST!!

gordyslovesheep · 06/02/2011 14:03

Assylum seekers CAN NOT WORK though so in all seriousness how do you expect them to live

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 14:04

Yes, but they don't have a free healthcare system do they?
