Multiculturalism has failed

Now whilst i believe the debate itself has merit ( though think that DC has put a rather disturbing anti islamic slant on it)
I do not think it the wisest day to do so given that there is a planned march by the English Defence League (think BNP with more hair) today

march in Luton

I know some do not want to integrate, but I also think David Cameron is being a cunt.

I would try to find a more upto date set of rates but i have to go out now but this will give you the jist of it.

giveitago · 06/02/2011 12:24

Erm - I'm opinionated but not half as opinionated as loftm.

I have no idea what 'foreigners' have to do integrate themselves but what I would say is that my dh has never really taken on board he's living in this country (his choice and right to live here) and he's very marginalised but it's self imposed - he pretty much rejects everything that the country offers and hence has no idea if there's an election here about to happen even. On the other hand my family are partly 'proper white english' and the rest from overseas by way of other continents and they've done really well and have no issues in keeping culture/integrating/participating.

It is a two way street.

onimolap · 06/02/2011 12:25

Ambarth: the reason he singled out Muslims was because he was speaking at an international security conference. Currently, the threat from Muslim extremists is the highest.

mrsgetonwithit · 06/02/2011 12:32

Where I live I never see a foreign person. When I was growing up I only ever saw one black person til I was about 20 and went to Lodon on a day trip.

I can offer nothing about how people intrigate all I know is what I read in the papers.

My life is quite nice and i WOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT THAT WAY.

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 12:35

Why comment then if you know nothing about the subject? It's like me going on to a golf forum and saying I don't watch golf but saw it once on Sky Sports and don't care to watch it again! Hmm

mrsgetonwithit · 06/02/2011 12:39

Just because I am interested in the disscussion, if that is ok with you ''oh mighty one''.

And to state that all of England Is not crawling with foreigners.

When I want to comment on a post again do I have to clear it with you ''princess''?

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 12:44

Because, like you said, you 'can offer nothing about how people intigrate, all I know is what I read in the papers.'

I know perfectly well England is a white majority country, I don't need you to point that out for me, thanks.

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 12:47

Oh, and going by your post, it seems you equate 'having a nice life' as living somewhere with no 'foreigners' on your door step, IMO.

mrsgetonwithit · 06/02/2011 12:51

Quite correct if everything I read on the internet and hear on the news, I am glad I live near no foreigners and the government should have halted them coming here years ago.

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 12:54

So you're basically saying, you're an ignorant, racist bigot?

mrsgetonwithit · 06/02/2011 13:02

mmmmmmm yep.

I see foreigners as ruining my country not enhancing it in anyway, which is why I live where I live so I dont have to deal with them.

If they started to live where I live god knows what I would do.

Most people I know feel like this but some are too afraid to say it.

Mrsgetonwithit- I think you'll be more at home here. Do fuck off, there's a love.

softglowsandmaybes · 06/02/2011 13:10

"

Mrsgetonwithit - i suggest you read a better standard of paper, it might improve your English!!

I would, as a white brit, who lives in a predominantly white middle class area - rather chew off my own arm than live next door to someone like you - twat.

Midwife that delivered my DD - foreign

DDs teacher that has made her from shrinking violet to a little girl who loves school and comes home grinning every day - forgeign

OTheHugeManatee · 06/02/2011 13:11

That's the end of any productive debate then.

softglowsandmaybes · 06/02/2011 13:12

Mrsgetonwithits vile post illustrates precisely how DCs speech was such an own goal, as it will open the floodgates for bigots like her to spew their vile shit. Its crazy. Nick cunting Griffin must be jumping for joy :(

softglowsandmaybes · 06/02/2011 13:15

And why WHY is it YOUR country? It is the country where you were born (i assume) it doesn't give you ownership. I can almost see your little street now - are you hyacinth bucket??

mrsgetonwithit · 06/02/2011 13:16

We all dont have to agree, do we?

Lots of people feel like this but toooo afraid to say.

OTheHugeManatee · 06/02/2011 13:16

softglow Not sure I agree about Cameron's speech opening the floodgates of bigotry.

I don't think people who want to 'send 'em all home' are the majority in the UK. There is a lot of ambivalence about mass immigration, though. Pretending it doesn't exist gives the hard-liners a sense of grievance (as in 'We're the injured silent majority, nobody listens to us, bloody PC brigade etc etc') which makes them feel they've got the high moral ground and makes them noisier and more extreme.

Opening a moderate debate around multiculturalism and related issues can only be a positive thing.

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 13:19

I agree, Manatee, it HAD to be said, sooner or later. A large majority, myself included, are concerned about mass immigration. It doesn't mean that all these people are like mrsgetonwithit though, not at all.

StarlightPrincess · 06/02/2011 13:20

Although maybe yesterday, on the day of the EDL march wasn't the best time to say it.

mrsgetonwithit · 06/02/2011 13:21

I am against mass immigration as you are princess, that makes us the same.

OTheHugeManatee · 06/02/2011 13:22

I can see how making that speech on EDL march day might be misconstrued. But if reporters want to misconstrue something, they're sure to find a way whether the EDL is marching or not.

Surely working your speech timetable around dates when some jackbooted nutters are shambling and gurning somewhere just gives them a sense of consequence that they don't deserve?

OTheHugeManatee · 06/02/2011 13:23

Mrsgetonwithit - There's a lot of room for difference between being ambivalent about mass immigration and wanting all furriners to sod off home.

Just sayin'.
