Sutton High Street

In thinking that the people who inflicted the new and 'improved' Sutton High Street' on us should all be sacked?

I actually think it's a shame we can't tie them to the benches,(which they obviously rescued from a skip/dump) and give them all a sound public flogging!

Not only did someone design this sorry-looking High Street but lots of other twats actually thought it was good enough to inflict on us!

So, what have we got for our millions? A truly shitty High Street which I can't bear to see so I have stopped shopping in Sutton. We've got so many different types of paving on the ground that it looks like someone's started doing it and changed their minds several times, the above-mentioned benches and a stupid bloody 'farm'.

It looks so horrendous that it truly does have to be seen to be believed. It's a complete bloody embarrassment. (When we have visitors we make sure they don't go within a mile of it) and it really is taking the fucking piss out of Sutton's Council-tax payers. I'm so angry about it, even now, months/years? later. Why would anyone want to shop in Sutton and have the sight of the High Street inflicted on them when they can't even stop for a rest on a decent bloody bench. Epsom, Kingston, Croydon are all 'state-of-the-art' compared to this fucking tip of a High Street.

Love those elephants in Carshalton Ponds. I do think Sutton Library Service is outstandingly good. I might have to try and buy a copy of that elephants pic.

I'm sure part of the reason I'm obsessed with Carshalton is the heightened adrenaline caused by trying to avoid "Wombly and PFB in Carshalton Ponds".

auntevil · 19/01/2011 10:52

Heightened adrenaline and Carshalton in the same sentence. Now that's something i never thought i would see! Love Carshalton really - i live nearby. The most exciting thing recently was the crash into the antique shop and aromatherapy shop.
actually, i am now going to have to eat my words. The firework display - truly magnificent and could possibly described with either the words 'heightened' or 'adrenaline'. Smile

bigcar · 19/01/2011 11:36

it's a great firework display isn't it! Don't know why the aromatherapy shop hasn't been repaired yet, it's been a while.

just in case anyone is feeling a little nostalgic for Carshalton, have a look here the last photo on page 3 is a proper park as I remember them, I spent many a happy hour on that witches hat as a child [sigh] No daft log benches back then!

Worcester Park is the place to live in LBS, we have a Waitrose and a costa coffee

GORGEOUSX · 19/01/2011 11:43

Agree - Carshalton Ponds is lovely and yes, we go to the firework display every year - It is absolutely spectacular - better, IMO, than the New Year's Eve display at the London Eye.

Just want to say I'm not running down Sutton High Street just for the sake of it. I think Sutton residents deserve a lot more and would like to see some heads roll over the whole fiasco.

Is that why you are trying to drum up a bit of outrage on Mumsnet?

GORGEOUSX · 19/01/2011 11:45

Yes

MarniesMummy · 19/01/2011 12:26

Not specifically, I meant a head that was found in the ponds in the erly 1990's (really showing my age now).

So is Times square still there?

Deaddei · 19/01/2011 12:27

Worcester Park is very difficult to get to at the moment with the road works.

SoupDragon · 19/01/2011 12:36

"Worcester Park is the place to live in LBS, we have a Waitrose and a costa coffee "

And, I believe, a KFC Hmm

MarniesMummy · 19/01/2011 12:48

You're in nowhere'sville if you haven't got a KFC (to sneer at!).

kayah · 20/01/2011 15:06

GORGEOUSX - I agree with you re: waste of money on the city centre

I would like to see the map of roads being salted during winter snow falls

they said in some literature they do it to 230 miled of roads within the borough
I would like to know how often etc

I remember seeing a short interview with someone from Windsor council where no school was closed this winter, 'cos they bought 2 or 3 light vehicles which transportd salt around the borough and helped with keeping place runnung
in December, my dd school wasclosed for 6 days I think...
