Sutton High Street

In thinking that the people who inflicted the new and 'improved' Sutton High Street' on us should all be sacked?

I actually think it's a shame we can't tie them to the benches,(which they obviously rescued from a skip/dump) and give them all a sound public flogging!

Not only did someone design this sorry-looking High Street but lots of other twats actually thought it was good enough to inflict on us!

So, what have we got for our millions? A truly shitty High Street which I can't bear to see so I have stopped shopping in Sutton. We've got so many different types of paving on the ground that it looks like someone's started doing it and changed their minds several times, the above-mentioned benches and a stupid bloody 'farm'.

It looks so horrendous that it truly does have to be seen to be believed. It's a complete bloody embarrassment. (When we have visitors we make sure they don't go within a mile of it) and it really is taking the fucking piss out of Sutton's Council-tax payers. I'm so angry about it, even now, months/years? later. Why would anyone want to shop in Sutton and have the sight of the High Street inflicted on them when they can't even stop for a rest on a decent bloody bench. Epsom, Kingston, Croydon are all 'state-of-the-art' compared to this fucking tip of a High Street.

New Malden High street is quite pleasant to wander about on a sunny afternoon... lovely little Italian deli that does great coffee down the side street near the car park.

I do like your threads Gorgeousx.

Oh God there's bloody mllions of you near me! Haven't been to Sutton for a while, what's changed? It's probably the same crowd that bolloxed up New Malden high street. I only ever go to Sutton to park in Asda and go to Manzes :o

Epsom is far better :)

I didn't mind Mitcham

I was living in Tooting at the time 'tho and Mitcham looked like a scene from a rural idyll in comparison.

I take your Sutton and raise you...

Wimbledon's lovely - every high street needs a Diane von Furstenburg - what if you lived elsewhere and you suddenly needed a £400 wrap dress and some artisan walnut and spelt bread for your pom bear party?

Have not been to Sutton but was in West Croydon on Tuesday and agree with the Dawn of the Dead analogy.

mangoandlime Please do cheer up granny by giving her a ring - sure it would brighten up her evening - and report straight back to us.Grin

South London?

You are all barking mad. Wink

charliesmommy · 15/01/2011 20:09

Banstead has a nice little high street with some decent boutique shops.. and with Waitrose one end, M & S Food at the other, whats not to like! Grin

Deaddei · 15/01/2011 20:11

Charliesmummy and A2363-I too am NEw Malden.
I frequent Cafe Galia, but do like the deli down near the gym.
God knows what they will do with the high street.

GORGEOUSX · 15/01/2011 20:11

Unrulysun I quite agree. One should always have access to a Diane Von Furstenberg shop - oops sorry, spelt it wrong. The best one can hope for in Sutton is Designers at Debenham ...groan....

Wimbledon is lovely. I miss all the charity shops. Croydon has one, and that smells of wee and old dog.

Deaddei · 15/01/2011 20:13

Oh I am always wandering from coffee shop to coffee hop in Wimbledon Village, but never actually buying anything.
We once lived in the VIllage pre children.......(wistful emoticons)

This is so sad to hear! I grew up in Sutton and lived there for over 20 years. It used to be really nice with a decent high street. It started going downhill in my opinion when Tesco's closed and they opened the Asda.

I am going back there in a week or so to see friends, so will have a proper look.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 15/01/2011 20:17

I feel homesick for Wimbledon/Raynes Park/New Malden now and I only live down the road!

GORGEOUSX · 15/01/2011 20:19

Yes, Wimbledon is lovely to wander around - not a pound-shop in sight, sigh...

Deaddei · 15/01/2011 20:20

WImbledon itself is a hotchpot but has decent shops.
Can't beat Kingston. I will pop there tomorrow for a coffee and a quick mooch.

Unrulysun · 15/01/2011 20:21

You lived in the village?!

Wow - I half expect them to rumble us as peasants and have us trampled by the riding school.

Deaddei · 15/01/2011 20:25

Yes dh had a small flat there when I first met him-that clinched the first date!!
I always feel underdressed there, especially in Matches.
Love ST Cassien for coffee.

PatriciaHolm · 15/01/2011 20:26

We drive through Croydon ever so often and I've always been a little afraid to stop Grin

Kingston is good for a day's intensive shopping but I always find it a bit manic. Epsom works on a day to day basis better though I would kill for a John Lewis Grin

Deaddei · 15/01/2011 20:28

Hounslow is grim too.
Love RIchmond.
