Sutton High Street

In thinking that the people who inflicted the new and 'improved' Sutton High Street' on us should all be sacked?

I actually think it's a shame we can't tie them to the benches,(which they obviously rescued from a skip/dump) and give them all a sound public flogging!

Not only did someone design this sorry-looking High Street but lots of other twats actually thought it was good enough to inflict on us!

So, what have we got for our millions? A truly shitty High Street which I can't bear to see so I have stopped shopping in Sutton. We've got so many different types of paving on the ground that it looks like someone's started doing it and changed their minds several times, the above-mentioned benches and a stupid bloody 'farm'.

It looks so horrendous that it truly does have to be seen to be believed. It's a complete bloody embarrassment. (When we have visitors we make sure they don't go within a mile of it) and it really is taking the fucking piss out of Sutton's Council-tax payers. I'm so angry about it, even now, months/years? later. Why would anyone want to shop in Sutton and have the sight of the High Street inflicted on them when they can't even stop for a rest on a decent bloody bench. Epsom, Kingston, Croydon are all 'state-of-the-art' compared to this fucking tip of a High Street.

I hate Sutton purely because the very young girl my exH left me for lives there.

We call it SLUTton Grin

I'm not bitter......

wheredidyoulastseeit · 15/01/2011 22:36

I totally agree with OP. Sutton High street has been ruined, (and it wasn't that good to start with). It beggars belief that millions can be spent to create a bleak, desolate, ugly wasteland and those benches are vile.

Never been to Swindon but can't believe your High Street looks like it was funded by a third world country.

Sorry, just spotted your other thread and realised you weren't there looking at schools for a boy. "W" = the 2 boys' GS in Wallington. thought you might faint.

Good luck for your dd, btw.

GORGEOUSX · 15/01/2011 22:42

Thank you wheredidyoulastseeit wouldn't you just love to give the perpetrators a sound public flogging!

Ah yes the old slag off a place you want your dcs to go to school thread.

Slag off the high street all you like as yes its not Wimbledon Village thank god but lets leave the snobbery at the door shall we?

And the dc quite like the strange wooden animals and the new cafe in Manor Park actually has some toilets and is a godsend.

Hassled · 15/01/2011 22:46

I was last on Sutton High Street in 1984. I bought a stripey off-the-shoulder top from Chelsea Girl.

It's safe to assume times have changed then, yes :o? Although, it was a dive even then. And Cheam was just non-existent. A train station, a small handful of shops, a hairdressers, nothing else.

GORGEOUSX · 15/01/2011 22:46

Maylee lots of sympathy.... hopefully said harlot will sit on one of the benches and get a rather large splinter up her .... Wink, or better still exDH will be dumped for a toyboy she meets sitting on one of the farm animals hrumph

No Oldbag - just Sutton - it always happens on the 11+ threads. Its a 'vile' place obviously yet come exam day theres 500 people queueing round the block...

wheredidyoulastseeit · 15/01/2011 22:51

oh yes gorgeousx it seems that there has been no regard for people who have to use the area, no doubt it has won numerous architectural awards, it's just us plebs who don't appreciate the atrocity inflicted on us design. It pains me because I usually love Sutton for looking after public areas so well like the flowers in Nonsuch park and the Fountain in Wallington.

GORGEOUSX · 15/01/2011 22:53

Suttontsarina I'm guessing you may have had a hand in the 'improvement' of Sutton High Street. I don't see the connection of schools and disgraceful waste of tax-payers money on the High Street. I don't think you need to be a snob to expect somewhere pleasant to sit when you're shopping - even the lower classes need to sit and rest their bums on something decent when they're out spending their benefit money. SuttonTsarina · 15/01/2011 22:57

Of course I've got nowt to do with it - why would I have?

The high street is one thing - other posters slagging off the people out of pure snobbery is something else.

Oh and you obviously missed that report that Sutton has the largest amount of people in work in London - so they wont all be spending their benefit money Hmm

It was tfl money btw and not council. Just saying...Its not that great I agree but to be fair it wasnt that great before.

bumpybecky · 15/01/2011 22:57

I used to work in Bhs in Sutton High street! not been there for nearly 20 years now

CupcakesHay · 15/01/2011 22:58

Brilliant - grew up in Worcester Park and moved away - and then loads of "snobby" peope I met through DH's job all started moving to Sutton and going on about how fab it was and I always thought Hmm yeah right.

What a fab thread - and haven't thougth about Slutton for years!

but have to agree - the schools are fab - which is probably why people put up with the rest of it!

And also agree - the parks in Sutton were really nice - but haven't been there for 10 years or so.

bibbitybobbityhat · 15/01/2011 22:58

I see your Sutton/Croydon/Mitcham/Thornton Heath/Swindon

and raise you ...

...

Staines!

Dear God, if ever a town should have the green screens erected and put out of its misery, tis Staines.

charliesmommy · 15/01/2011 23:01

Not all the schools are fab.. by any stretch of the imagination.

GORGEOUSX · 15/01/2011 23:05

Suttontsarina this is not an 11+ thread Confused as for 'slagging' people off, I don't see the connection in complaining about a High Street - how is that 'slagging' people off? You were the first person to use a derogatory remark against posters by calling them snobs.

OP posts:
bigcar · 15/01/2011 23:08

yanbu, those 'benches' are a joke, obviously they considered people with disabilities might want to sit down Hmm I noticed they put proper benches in up the pub end though. Good to see where our council tax is being spent.

only 500 queueing? Think you can probably add quite a few more to that!

bigcar · 15/01/2011 23:10

oooooh I didn't know we had a tsarina

and my dd2 absolutely loves primark, suits me fine!

CognitiveDissident · 15/01/2011 23:10

bibbity
I quite like Staines (used to work there)

(not sure if I should have a 'confused' or 'embarrassed' face, not quite got the hang of smilies yet)

GORGEOUSX · 15/01/2011 23:12

bibitybobity.. Yes, Staines is awful, but they haven't just 'improved' it and unveiled it, have they? Sutton High Street has been 'improved' and' 'unveiled'.

OP posts:
charliesmommy · 15/01/2011 23:12

Staines is quite nice.. I worked there for a while too, over the bridge.

Slough has to be one of the most dire places I visited though.

bigcar · 15/01/2011 23:13

yes gorgeous, iirc a big flashy unveiling lasting a couple of days Hmm
