ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 12:49

Post an AIBU from the point of view of a fictional character (from novels/nursery rhymes/plays etc) and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please :)

AIBU to be protective of my DD?

you and your ginger obsession

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/03/2011 11:57

...Sadly I am bed-ridden - or sofa-ridden, at least. I try not to be a burden, though...

Ginger is great. You know it.

Coltsfoot rock, anyone?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 17/03/2011 12:02

oooooooooooh Treacle I know who you are! At least, I do if you are painfully good, and an example to girls everywhere to lie still and be virtuous and definitely never play on swings, and you go around doling out vases to make people's beds of pain more tolerable?

What the blazes is coltsfoot rock?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/03/2011 12:06

And writing poems about how Pain is a great teacher? Yep, that's me!

Coltsfoot rock is great, I'll buy some next time I see it. It's like... actually, I have no idea how to describe it. They tend to sell it in old-fashioned sweet shops with lots of jars, and sometimes in health food shops. Not sure what the medicinal benefits are although apparently it has them.

Just googled and apparently it's only made in one place and has a secret recipe! How exciting.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 17/03/2011 12:09

gosh isn't coltsfoot interesting? We could see if Butterbur has any, as apparently that's one of the other names for it. And the name actually means "cough suppressant", marvellous.

Although to be a pedantic moaner, I'm not coughing, just hurting. If only there was such a thing as a painless lunchtime drop-in tonsilectomy.

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/03/2011 13:14

Talk of tonsils always makes me think of that bit in Roald Dahl's book Boy when he has his sliced out without anaesthetic...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 17/03/2011 15:04
  1. those were ADENOIDS

  2. I fainted at that bit, at school.

Even though I'd already read it before and knew what happened.

You wuss Grin

Although I bow before your superior medical knowledge

llandb · 06/04/2011 16:54

Crikey. Where's everyone?

llandb · 06/04/2011 16:56

This reminds me of a very, very obscure book (if I recall correctly, it was a vanity publication by a lecturer of a friend). I'll see if I can dig it out and AIBU it :o

llandb · 06/04/2011 16:57

As in, see whether there's the remotest chance that anyone else could possibly have read it and rendered it Googlable...

steamedtreaclesponge · 07/04/2011 10:18

hello!

it's time this thread was resurrected, I think- although now that Elephants has full access to all my books I'm sure she'll start guessing all my AIBUs straight away!

i also found out that SGB makes badges - we should get her to do some with 'well-read lunatic' on them Grin

AIBU in thinking she's a bit of a drag?

PoledrathePissedOffFairy · 07/04/2011 10:22

Well, hell- air there! I thought this had gorn completely.

Treacle, a bit of a drag, or a bit in drag??

PoledrathePissedOffFairy · 07/04/2011 10:22

Shoite. Bollixed up me italics right proper - sorry!

steamedtreaclesponge · 07/04/2011 11:57

well hellair to you too!

A bit of a drag - I'm sure she'd never dream of dressing up as a man! She's far too prissy for that...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/04/2011 23:54

oh goodness, hello! I've just had to track this down in the far reaches of advanced search Shock

Treacle - was that an actual AIBU or were you just asking about me? :o Obviously I will be posting AIBUs based primarily on your books...

AIBU to have frightened my colleague?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 11/04/2011 11:36

No, a real AIBU, of course!

She's no fun at all. I don't know why she won't join in with all of us...

What have you done to your colleague? Did you frighten them on purpose?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/04/2011 14:24

Are you behaving in a manner less than proper for young gels, treacle?

OP posts:
PoledrathePissedOffFairy · 13/04/2011 14:34

Oooh, Pimms - lovely!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/04/2011 14:50

...I didn't mean to frighten her really, but I did pull a knife on her...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 13/04/2011 15:06

Did she give you a fright, Elephants? I have a feeling she might be more than she seems...

...I suppose some people would think it improper. But I can't see what we're doing wrong, and if my brother approves then it must be OK...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/04/2011 16:59

Hmm, is she maybe a bit of a sourpuss about being the poor relation, treacle?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 13/04/2011 17:41

...It could be that, Elephants. She is so tediously virtuous.

llandb · 14/06/2011 15:47
