AIBU Books Game Part Eight

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 12:49

Post an AIBU from the point of view of a fictional character (from novels/nursery rhymes/plays etc) and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please :)

AIBU to be protective of my DD?

PoglesMistletoeandHolly · 01/01/2011 10:58

Now I am ill - I knew I should have kept further away from you lot.Not ill enough to retire to my bed, sadly, just ill enough to wander gloomily round the house sneezing and muttering "I don't feel well" at regular intervals!

Love the cartoon, llandb - it's all in the worst possible taste,as Kenny Everett would say...

Pass the tissue boze,please....

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 01/01/2011 11:25

Happy New Year, well-read lunatics! Smile

Lurgey-ridden here too. Christmas is obviously very bad for your health.

Congratulations, Elfpants. It was back in the dim and distant past but you were spot on with Cold Christmas. Have an authentic 1970s lava lamp for a prize.

And, umm, NIMCP!

AIBU to throw away the nail?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 01/01/2011 13:24

YANBU unless it will have further negative implications for shoe, horse, rider, battle, kingdom etc.

I have some nice honey & lemon drops for you lot which I am going to throw over to the raft's hospital wing.

Poor Pogle, and Moomin, and everyone

...And it hardly seems polite to talk of head-chopping at Christmas dinner...

llandb · 01/01/2011 21:11

Moomin!! Does that mean the Grinch was a selfless public health campaigner?

And what kind of nail is it? Fingernail? Nail for joining two bits of wood? Relic (shudder)?

Elfpants, whose head?

Still not done spreadsheet / googling for others...

MCP

Unrulysanta · 01/01/2011 21:49

Happy New Year! May the raft be fruitful and may your AIBUs be blessed.

I was having great trouble following (esp because I am on phone with little screen and feeding an increasingly scratchy bity person) and would love to have suggested a round up. Especially because there's a weird thing going on where two people do knights/Pratchetts at the same time.

This is my very favourite thread though. As much because I get mince pies and no-one tells anyone YABU as because of the literature.

Going to have a look at what's on now.

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 01/01/2011 23:21

How lovely, Unruly

Xmas Smile

...that's the thing, it's his own head...

MadameDefarge · 01/01/2011 23:30

AIBU to think I should be able to take a nice stroll through the wood without being assaulted by wildlife?

And they are so argumentative! bah! I had to make up all sorts of nonsense to get rid of them...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 01/01/2011 23:44

Hello Madame Xmas Smile

Wildlife eh? YANBU - well, perhaps if it's a butterfly or something, but is it something toothier?

MadameDefarge · 01/01/2011 23:52

yeah, what is with the toothy thing? can't a small person mooch around looking for nice, vegetable based grub without having to deal with weirdos? And think a spot of clearasil would also be in order....

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 02/01/2011 00:16

Goodness I am stumped (keeping with the forest theme here)

Clearasil eh? And there was more than one of them?

MadameDefarge · 02/01/2011 00:19

Ah, my dear Elf, I am sure you have never had to recourse to beauty treatments to deal with unsightly blemishes upon your nose....

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 02/01/2011 01:22

Hello Madame Defarge, do you really think it wise to be walking in the deep, dark wood? And are you sure all the nonsense you've been spouting hasn't a grain of truth in it?

NIMCP on everything else so a round-up of current AIBU clues sounds a splendid idea. I'll start with mine.

AIBU to throw away the nail?

Now followed by:

...I don't think I was U but my employer won't half create when she finds out I've dropped it down the well...

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 02/01/2011 11:27

Happy new year, everyone!

Well done on the googling, Pogle - I was actually Major Quilan from Look to Windward but I don't think anyone would ever have got it... Am trying to think of a suitable prize. How about a drone to do the housework?

Elfpants, is this gentleman green, perchance?

Was it a magic nail, Moomin?

AIBU to worry about my friend?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 02/01/2011 11:53

He most CERTAINLY is Treacle, and a bit cheeky about his ability to re-attach his head if you ask me! Well done, have a magic girdle as a prize... Or a slightly bloodstained green jerkin perhaps?

Worra you worrying about then Treacle?

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 02/01/2011 12:20

What were you, Elfpants?

...It's a coffin nail...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 02/01/2011 20:01

I was Gawain, out of Gawain & the Green Knight, a heartwarming medieval tale of festive decapitation. Tosser Simon Armitage published a modern version a few years ago and it was on the radio over Christmas.

AIBU and PFB-ish about my DD?

CJCregg · 02/01/2011 20:51

Evening all. Have been utterly befuddled by clues of late, but am wondering, Elephants, if your PFBDD is actually slightly inferior to her sibling(s)?

I had one going ages ago but have forgotten it Blush

Sympathies to everyone who's got the lurgy. DS had it before Christmas and it was a nightmare. DD and I have escaped so far - am wondering if the female genes in this family are stronger, or if it's just biding its time with us ... Whatever happens, the little darlings are going back to school on Wednesday, lurgy or not.

On the lurgy theme, AIBU to worry about my sister?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 02/01/2011 20:55

It's all got a bit puke ridden messy on the raft over Christmas, hasn't it?

CJ, hope you and DD stay helfy. Has your sister eaten something she shouldn't?

...she's an only child, unfortunately, and she has an unusual, er, allergy...

CJCregg · 02/01/2011 21:02

Oh dear, she's not 'allergic' to spinning wheels, is she?

My poor sister has got the 'flu. I'm worried because I haven't seen much of her recently. I've been spending more time with the 'other' her ...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 02/01/2011 21:15

How did you know, CJ? Xmas Shock It's spindles actually. Luckily hardly any products contain them so she should be alright...surely?

Other her? Um. Um. Nah, give up. MCP.

CJCregg · 02/01/2011 21:18

I should keep her locked away just in case Grin

Well, it's funny, because his other girl appeared and pretended to be her. I knew she wasn't my sister, of course, but I went along with it. We became quite good friends, but I missed my real sister - and now she's got 'flu, I'm worried I'm going to lose her again ...

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 03/01/2011 01:38

Umm, not sure how to say this, CJ, but do you have any mourning wear? I'm afraid you're going to need it. Poor Clare and poor Emily.

...It's part of the Year's Luck. It was meant to go in the Christmas pudding...

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 03/01/2011 12:06

Don't know what yours is, Moomin, but I like the sound of it!

What was yours, CJ?

...he doesn't seem worried at all, but I think he's got himself into a dangerous situation...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 04/01/2011 09:52

I know Moomin, poor old Nigel Xmas Sad

Not on the roof is he treacle?

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 04/01/2011 10:01

...Not on the roof, no, but I think he's become involved with a certain lady...

What was Moomin's one?
