ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 12:49

Post an AIBU from the point of view of a fictional character (from novels/nursery rhymes/plays etc) and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please :)

AIBU to be protective of my DD?

Moomin, yours isn't Cold Comfort Farm, is it? Xmas Confused

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 22/12/2010 00:08

No, Pol, but you're getting warmer or I should say colder because the title is not that dissimilar.Wink

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 22/12/2010 09:35

Hum, is it goijng to be a Cold Christmas, Moomin? And your little girl is a ghost?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 22/12/2010 09:37

And what was the cocktail party one? My peignoir will have to hang sadly unused (yes I looked it up) until I find out Xmas Grin

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 22/12/2010 09:40

AIBU to be worried about the children's health?

Unrulysanta · 22/12/2010 11:41

But CJ you are in your office being busy and important and Carol is getting your Ralph Lauren ballgown from your home so that you can attend the ambassador's party at late notice.

Is no-one going to have a go at mine? No matter how tempting I make it by disparaging my fellow travellers?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 22/12/2010 12:31

I'm trying with yours Unruly, I really am.

So you're a really snotty intrepid explorer, and they (your companions) are common as muck and going on what you imagine will be a piece-of-cake type expedition. Do you know why they want to go on it? (am very curious as to the "euw what is that?" part)

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 22/12/2010 12:33

Keep thinking it's LOTR related, I suppose hobbits are pretty common, we've got some at the bottom of the garden...

Unrulysanta · 22/12/2010 15:16

Thank-you Elfpants. Have a hancrafted wooden bauble painted by one of Santa's elves for your trouble. :)

...Actually I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I think it might be blood Blush well, like I say, I haven't had time to change.

They're going to visit a very special place. It'll be good for me too to be honest although I really think I've done my bit.

Unrulysanta · 22/12/2010 15:20

Is something happening which will affect their health Elfpants? Or are they showing signs of illness? Or have they fallen in the boating lake and need a swift round of 'My Favourite Things' and a dance with a Nazi to restore their spirits?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 22/12/2010 15:27

Blood? Special places? Are you in Narnia? Are you a big fluffy kittycat lion?

...Yes something I'm worried may affect their health. Their lungs can be very delicate in this cold weather...

Unrulysanta · 22/12/2010 15:48

Not Narnia no. I have been travelling in the Middle East.

Lungs? Are we at a sanitorium? Or in Switzerland? Or is it a London Particular?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 22/12/2010 16:17

On some kind of moral crusade, Unruly?

No, not at a sanitorium thank goodness, the children are tucked up asleep, but I still think people should be more considerate...

Unrulysanta · 22/12/2010 16:24

Moral? I have no idea what you mean. A crusade yes. And my habergeon is all bismotered (I think).

Is someone smoking? Pumping chemical effluent?

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 22/12/2010 17:58

Just marking my place here as am clueless, as ever. I'm sure I actually used to be able to guess some of these...

Elephants, mine was Eliot's The Cocktail Party.

MCP!

AIBU to agree to this mission?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 23/12/2010 00:48

Unruly - you are not exactly bang up to date are you? I've got a 14th century vibe off you. No idea who you are though and resisting google so far...

Cor blimey Treacle, I have never heard of that. Is it one last mission you are thinking of?

...Yes, smoking I'm afraid. Still it would be churlish to ask him to stop...

Unrulysanta · 23/12/2010 04:22

Yes Elfpants you are very close! Resist google!

I'm going to go on the big medieval trip down to Kent though because frankly it will do my immortal soul some good. Maybe I'll pick up some interesting stories on the way hmmmmmmm? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Unrulysanta · 23/12/2010 04:24

Smoking near childen? MCP?

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 23/12/2010 09:10

Aaaaah - Unruly, I think I know what you're from, although I'm trying desperately to remember exactly who you are...

Yes, Elfpants, it would be one last mission. But it's going to have some pretty big ramifications...

MCP everyone!

Unrulysanta · 23/12/2010 09:30

Treacle have you been dragged out of retirement? Do you have skills which are entirely natural or can you make time stop n stuff like that (notes own obsession with supernatural and ponders it for a second).

Right we're leaving this nice little pub in Southwark (that woman from Bath looks like she's had one too many to me, flighty piece i shouldn't wonder) and this fellow Harry has suggested a bit of a competition. Are you sitting comfortably?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 23/12/2010 09:33

Me too, Treacle (hard not to after all that "hmmmmmm"ing Xmas Grin) - Unruly are you the sort of person who sometimes sits at a round table? Or more of a religious persuasion?

Treacle - you're not going around disposing of jewellery are you?

...Yes, I don't approve of the smoking after all, but can hardly say anything after all he's done for the children over the years...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 23/12/2010 09:38

sorry by "don't approve after all" I mean "don't approve AT all" obviously.

Oooooooooh Unruly I've just realised I'm back at my parents' house with my copy of the Riverside Chaucer - so can I confirm that you are a bit posher than the rest of the pilgrims, give your weapon a clean though eh Sir? People are going to be saying "yuck" at that in 600 years time, believe it or not.

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 23/12/2010 09:39

It not cheating if you use a dusty volume, right?

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 23/12/2010 10:11

Is he a relative, ElfPants? Or an old friend of your husband who has been playing Santa Claus?

Don't really think using a dusty tome is cheating, either

...No, I'm not disposing of jewellery - more like disposing of people. And I haven't been brought out of retirement, although my companion has, in a way, I suppose...
