AIBU Books Game Part Eight

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 12:49

Post an AIBU from the point of view of a fictional character (from novels/nursery rhymes/plays etc) and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please :)

AIBU to be protective of my DD?

OP posts:
Unrulysun · 17/12/2010 17:05

Moomin's gone a bit gothic? And if she thinks it's a toughie I may as well hang up my remaining braincells.

agree that Llandb sounds Great Expectationy, Treacle sounds a bit Julian Barnesy. You'll note that I've clearly given up thinking and started tasting the ether for ideas.

No-one has asked any questions for mine so I shall begin again with MC to entice you in.

AIBU to go when they are all so bloody common?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 17/12/2010 17:09

oh sorry Unruly! AYBU to go when they are all so bloody common...well, um, don't you think it'd be a touch rude not to, if you've been invited? Is it a special occasion?

Unrulysun · 17/12/2010 17:10

Oh Elfpants has a new one too - has your friend changed recently? Are you growing apart? Does (s)he have something to be proud of?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 17/12/2010 17:16

Yes, it's been quite the transformation. He certainly thinks he's got something to be proud of, but certain amongst us aren't getting the credit we deserve...

Unrulysun · 17/12/2010 17:42

Is it a literal transformation? Is he a nice doctor one minute and a howling monster the next?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 17/12/2010 17:51

Alas no - it's more a case of posture really. For instance, he used to slump around the countryside feeling sorry for himself, but with our help he's become quite the champ...

Unrulysun · 18/12/2010 16:19

Has he won something? Renown even?

llandb · 18/12/2010 20:19

ElfPants, I'm sure I almost know yours, but I don't, quite

Unruly do they not respect you?

MCP! (Typing one-handed so not up for googling)

...I'm not paying him, and I suppose I ought not to interrupt his important work to gratify a whim...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 18/12/2010 20:42

...Yes he won something, or rather we did. But now he's so puffed up about the whole thing - he's even changed the style of his silly ginger moustache. I'm going to have to get my scary friend involved...

Unrulysun · 18/12/2010 21:17

Ahhh Elfpants faint recollections stirring are you Strange (or Norell?) or do I need another tree to bark up?

Llandb am stumped MCP!

Well yes I suppose I add some class to the whole enterprise. And of course they acknowledge my innate superiority! I am unsure as to what else they could do!

CJCreggnog · 18/12/2010 21:29

Unruly, are you going on a picnic by any chance?

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 18/12/2010 21:34

ooh good guess CJ

Not Strange or Norrell I'm afraid! Nothing so highbrow Xmas Grin

...Well we drafted in my scaly pal and really put the wind up the stuck-up knight! That'll teach him to appreciate his friends...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 18/12/2010 21:34
CJCreggnog · 18/12/2010 21:37

Scaly friend or scary friend, Elephants?!

Obviously it makes a vital difference to my potential guess Xmas Grin

CJCreggnog · 18/12/2010 21:39

Do you know I read that Strange and Norrell book and I can't remember a single word of it?

Unrulysun · 18/12/2010 21:48

Knights and dragons? Ought to be right up my nerdy street. 's not though. :(

CJ I am only now realising how little I have retained from a lifetime of books. I put it down to a misspent youth tbh - fewer grey cells.

...picnic? Is that French? We are going on a long and dangerous journey.

CJCreggnog · 20/12/2010 10:50
Unrulysun · 20/12/2010 12:28

I'm here (two hours later) and I would love a mince pie.

Will it hurt someone if you do CJ?

I should make it clear that I specialise in much longer more dangerous journeys. I really mean it's dangerous for them.

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 20/12/2010 12:38

Mince pies!

Actually, I spent 13 hours at a Christmas party yesterday so I might pass on the mince pies...

Doesn't sound U, CJ, but will it hurt someone if you do?

I had the same thing with Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell - couldn't remember any of it quite a short time after finishing it! I re-read it again this year though and enjoyed it much more.

...Sir Henry's supposed to be a great man, but it appears that he's been plotting with my wife...

llandb · 20/12/2010 19:22

Mmm, mince pies (and gin truffles)!

CJ, are you planning to tell the whole truth? Might it take a bit long?

...And his sincere efforts weren't much cop. In the end, he had to think outside the box - or rather, inside the box...

MCP!

Unrulysanta · 20/12/2010 22:15

Llandb that's a huge great clue innit?

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 20/12/2010 22:42

Box of Delights, llandb?

...I wish we hadn't come. It won't be the same opening our presents with a lot of strangers. Though I suppose the house is very appropriately named for our visit...

NIMCP!

CJCreggnog · 20/12/2010 23:05

Well, yes, it will hurt someone. An old friend, you could say. But it's just getting out of hand, I can't let it carry on ...

MC and mince pies P!

Limelight · 20/12/2010 23:53

Oooh this looks like a fun game. Can I play?

CJ, what would happen if you kept quiet? Are we talking loss of life, loss of innocence, humiliation, or all of the above?

Incidentally, I've been feeling a bit stiff lately...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 21/12/2010 00:13

mmmm Advocaat.

I'm a bit behind now, but thanks for sprucing (geddit) up the Christmas atmosphere CJ Xmas Grin

...I'm still not quite sure why the witch asked Arthur and I to help this cowardly knight, it's hardly dignified for a lion and a unicorn...
