ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 12:49

Post an AIBU from the point of view of a fictional character (from novels/nursery rhymes/plays etc) and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please :)

AIBU to be protective of my DD?

Superb Googling, Treacle! I was actually relying on you having poked around the recent Persephone Books catalogue.Wink This one was a birthday present and I had to read the last page before plucking up the courage to start it.

And, umm, you haven't buried DW under the cellar, have you?

AIBU to think I've seen a ghost?

Night, all!

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 15/12/2010 10:18

What kind of ghost, Moomin? Small child? Or has someone dead suddenly turned up again?

...she's not in the cellar - I don't know where she is. But how on earth this mystery guest knows that she's left is beyond me...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 15/12/2010 12:20

Hello? What's all this snoffling I hear?

MCP

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 15/12/2010 13:14

...at least the party's over now. But people keep coming back! I wish they'd stop trying to cook for me and would just leave me alone...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 15/12/2010 13:25

Er, Treacle? Are you sitting down? Do you think your wife might have, um, passed on?

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 15/12/2010 13:55
ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 15/12/2010 14:10

Is she dressed like a normal person, Moomin?

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 15/12/2010 18:03

...She's wearing a long nightgown. It looks a bit grubby and very old-fashioned, not what a normal 1970s child would wear...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 15/12/2010 18:14

MCP :)

CJCreggnog · 16/12/2010 00:11

Moomin, is she in the mirror? Do you think she wants you to go over to 'her side'?

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 16/12/2010 12:19

...No, she's not in the mirror. I see her about the house and she came into my room once. She looks friendly, but shy. I'm sure she'd be nicer than all these horrible boys...

Treeeeacle! MCP!

Poledra · 16/12/2010 13:01

Treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaacle? Oh Treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaacllllllle? Good to see you back but can we please have MC, as yours is tickling at the back of mind and it's irritating?

Moomin, I remember reading Still Missing many many years ago, when I was a teenager. I'm not sure I'd like to read it now I've got DCs of my own............

Unrulysun · 16/12/2010 15:54

I had also googled but am saving my little helper for when it's Proust or some Russian so you will all think me terribly erudite andnotadimwitwhichiswhatIam

Moomin tell us more about the boys?

AIBU to go?

llandb · 16/12/2010 18:40

Oooh mince pies and brandy butter!

Unrulysun · 16/12/2010 19:01

Treacle does the mystery guest appear to be a supernatural type, or similar?

lLandb depends what one is discerning? Does someone think you're BU? Are you refusing to do something?

Unrulysun · 16/12/2010 19:04

Am now trying to think of words/phrases where omitting a 'c' could result in hilarious misunderstandings...

llandb · 16/12/2010 19:16

Unruly, the best RL hiliarious misunderstanding I have nearly posted is 'thanks for taking the pis' wrt some pics that someone very kindly arranged. But I'm sure one could construct better

...I refuse to allow this person to submit substandard work!...

MCP!

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 16/12/2010 19:31

Ooh, llandb, Smile hope the Booklet is still being a model, easy-to-care-for baby. Mind you, DS was just like that, which doesn't bode that well for the day the Booklet achieves mobility.

Still Missing was sitting around for a while before I opened it, Pol, and I did have to check the ending before starting it. If there hadn't been a happy reunion it would definitely still be a closed book.

...We're staying with some people so my mother can make sketches for a watercolour of their house. The boys are visiting them for Christmas too...

MCP!

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 17/12/2010 10:04

Clueless on everything, but just popping in to offer fresh herby bread rolls & butter, as an antidote to the sweet-tooth madness on the raft :)

MCP.

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 17/12/2010 10:05

Oh and llandb I actually laughed out loud at "thanks for taking the pis".

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 17/12/2010 12:46

Mmm, bread rolls

...No, he's not supernatural! My wife's come back now, which is good, but she's making me go to see a psychiatrist. I wonder if she knows about my affair...

MCP everyone - Moomin yours is starting to sound vaguely familiar...

llandb, are you talking about substandard school work?

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 17/12/2010 14:11

Utterly stumped here. MCP on all of them!

...Actually, Jason is quite friendly, but that horrible Simon tied my plaits to a chair. But he seems to be seeing strange things too...

Bit of a longshot this one. The author seems to have been quite forgotten but DD enjoys them just as much as I did.

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 17/12/2010 14:23

I have total blankhead on all of them, aargghh.

Ok, to distract myself from my ignorance, I'm going to have to do one myself (with apologies if my memory of it isn't perrrfect).

AIBU to want to take my friend down a peg or two?

llandb · 17/12/2010 16:40

Hmm. stumped as a Christmas tree on all of yours! (And yes, I've had to go back and insert all the Cs in this post)

Moomin you are frightening me! :o I have been warned that model booklets make for challenging teens, also. This booklet is still model except for the snot and puke and sore tum :( but that's what slings are for :)

...not at a school, but I did insist that he try again and again until he got it right. The first time he blatanty tried to fob me off with something completely different!...

MCP!

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 17/12/2010 16:50

Erm, is this your employee with some impoverished family circumstances you're talking about llandb?
