ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 12:49

Post an AIBU from the point of view of a fictional character (from novels/nursery rhymes/plays etc) and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please :)

AIBU to be protective of my DD?

Oh, Unruly, that's really Sad. I hope she had a public library ticket and I hope she has all the tottering piles she could wish for in later life. Stupid mother.Angry

Our normal state on this thread is perplexity so you have plenty of company. But it's fun being confuddled together, great fun when light eventually dawns, and a marvellous source for new books to buy/borrow.Smile

So, might the 'he' be a long lost uncle and might he be wanting you to fetch a dusty old lamp?

...I did let him walk to school by himself and he loved it. And I really did think very carefully about it. Only one day he never arrived...

Unrulysun · 10/12/2010 18:50

She was a very lovely girl who loved books so I am sure she has great dusty towers now :)

and you have me hugely confuddled with yours - I think I have all the clues I need I just don't have the faintest idea what it is!

It's not a lamp he wants. It's even weirder than that: it's a handkerchief. God knows why.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/12/2010 21:45

oooh oooooh Unruly, YADDDDBU! Unless you want your poor mistress to end up dead, of course. Don't trust that slimebag Iago an inch.

Shocked at the shelf situation - that's cruel! Bet she was heartbroken trying to choose which one of her babies books was for the chop.

Worried about Moomin's little boy...

MCP :)

An old black ram goes to Elephants for that. Do let it tup your white ewe.

2 Pratchetts followed by 2 Shakespeares. Hmmmmmm. Spooky!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/12/2010 17:15

hey hey - I read a book. Shocking I know.

So...

AIBU to be outraged at the behaviour of these children?

OP posts:
Unrulysun · 13/12/2010 17:32

Hi Elephants

hopefully won't be here for long because in a moment dd is going to unlatch and fall properly asleep and I am going to go upstairs and find something to wear for my first ever night out since she was born in bloody May. And I am going to stay out 'til 9 whole pm without a phonecall to say she had gone into meltdown because mummy isn't there to feed her to sleep. And I am going to wear high heels and so much make-up my eyes will look like enormous mating tarantulas. And it will be good. Please God let this happen.

Sorry - slight rant there.

Right, books is it?

Are you normally outraged by children or is there something unusual about these or the things they are doing?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/12/2010 18:01

Oh Unruly, that is all going to happen exactly as planned. And will there be gossip? And loud music? And inappropriate snorting laughter? And absolutely no talk of nappies? Of course there will

Yep, books.

...I look after a child every day, so I know how annoying they can be. But these children are wild and have no manners...

OP posts:
TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 13/12/2010 18:10

Are you a nanny, Elephants?

Unruly, I love the tarantula imagery...

...it's just a normal party. But I don't think it's quite appropriate, under the circumstances...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/12/2010 18:27

...how dare you, Treacle? I am an aristocrat! Which means I have standards, unlike those brutish children, leading my charge astray...

OP posts:
CJCreggnog · 13/12/2010 21:01

Has someone died, treacle?

Unrulysun · 13/12/2010 21:23

I return! Tarantulas mated, eggnogs enjoyed, child frantically feeding now like a small 'don't lose the suction' Dyson. All is well with the world.

CJ are you going to tell us about the book or am I behind?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/12/2010 21:45

Hooray! great stuff Xmas Smile

OP posts:
Unrulysun · 13/12/2010 21:49

What sorts of 'astray' are we talking about Elephants?

Unrulysun · 13/12/2010 21:51

OooohOOoooh yes thank-you fairyelephant! I am eternally grateful (and about to turn into a pumpkin)

MoominMymbleandMy · 14/12/2010 00:24

Evening, all (well, it's still evening by my standards).

Cor, Unruly, you went out, at night, all glammed up! I think I can remember doing that. I hope you and the mating tarantulas had fun.Grin

Is it a garden party, Treacle? Or even the garden party? And, Elephants, MCP!

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 14/12/2010 10:28

Aaargh, I'm sure I should know yours, Elephants, but I need more clues!

...No, no-one has died and it's not a garden party. But someone has gone missing...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 14/12/2010 10:57

MCP Treacle & Moomin

...well they have my charge sleeping in a room with all kinds of children, both boys and girls, for a start. And they claim to be doing it for his own good...

OP posts:
Unrulysun · 14/12/2010 14:42

Ram almost certainly will have designs on fluffy innocents given that it is a metaphorical representation of the rapacious Moor. I should lock up your ewes.

I do like the idea of wedding two dumb animals to celebrate the Royal nuptials...

I don't want to give the idea ofbeing some glamorous gadabout so it should probably be said that night out was with my antenatal group and I had two diet cokes and a slice of garlic bread and talked about poo and weaning for two hours. I wish that I could report that the night ended with us all snorting coke off JLS but that would be erroneous.

Am all lost with the main point though. Elephants who are 'they'?

MoominMymbleandMy · 14/12/2010 14:53

Ooh, might your charge be royal, Elephants, and recently orphaned? If so, I'd say the mad, common English children ought to be the least of your worries.

Umm, depends who's gone missing, Treacle. The guest of honour or the cook could be very awkward. MCP!

...And the police won't listen to me when I tell them my ex-DH had nothing to do with Alex's disappearance. Graham might not be able to keep his trousers on, but that doesn't mean he'd kidnap our son...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 14/12/2010 15:08

...Of course he is royal! He is the Crown Prince of Bergania! And what is the use of these dancing children saving his life, if they are going to treat him no better than a commoner?

Well done, Moomin Xmas Smile

OP posts:
TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 14/12/2010 15:21

Elephants, what was yours? I definitely don't know it...

...well, I couldn't cancel all the guests, so the party has had to go ahead. I just hope they don't find out about my wife...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 14/12/2010 16:08

Hi Treacle :)

It was The Dragonfly Pool by Eva Ibbotson. Not as good as some of her others but a lovely read nonetheless.

Was v sad to read she died this autumn - obituary here.

So your wife's missing but you're still planning to host the party? What are you going to do when people ask questions?

MoominWashesSocksByNight · 14/12/2010 17:00

I was sad too, Elephants/Elfpants (it suits you, very well btw Xmas Smile). They are such lovely, happy and funny books.

Hmm, still MCP, Treacle, because all I can think of is the wedding anniversary party in Fawlty Towers now!

TreacleOfComfortAndJoy · 14/12/2010 17:32

Ah - is your son Still Missing, Moomin?

...I've said she's visiting a sick aunt, but I'm not sure everyone believes me. And now I've got the problem with this mystery guest...

CJCreggnog · 14/12/2010 17:41

Ooh, ooh, bells faintly ringing, Treacle!

MCP and be quick about it!!
