Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who enter the Gazebo and sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tired mum, Elmo, AF, HE, Cheesey and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up !

Thanksgiving is in November here. I was decorating for the general harvest season I suppose! :o What is the origin for Thanksgiving in Canada, gomummy? Isn't there some holiday that started because of...someone climbing a mountain or...something? Blush

CheerfulYank · 29/09/2010 14:55

We usually just do seasonal decorations, elmo. Then we add things like bats or spiders or whatever for Halloween. It's not the OTT decorating people do for Christmas, but where I live most people do pumpkins, scarecrows, etc. And Harvest corn, which used to be called Indian corn. (Not politcally correct) :)

I forgot you were Irish! I want to come visit you! :)

elmofan · 29/09/2010 15:14

Aww That sounds like great fun cheerful , And you would be very welcome to come over to me anytime Smile . I have always dreamed of going to America , i almost did when i was 18yrs old but then i met dh & my best friend went alone .

ApocalypseFlangePop · 29/09/2010 15:41

elmofan · 29/09/2010 15:44

Hello Apocalypse , i had wondered who started the first buddy bench , i thought it was gomummy for some reason . I joined half way through the 2ND one .

CheerfulYank · 29/09/2010 16:02

I don't remember when I joined...

Hi Apocalypse, how have you been?!

Elmo that's funny, a friend of mine and I have always dreamed of going to Ireland. One of these days, when I can afford it...

gomummy · 29/09/2010 16:03

history of Thanksgiving in Canada

It is my absolute favourite holiday (far more than Christmas as I cannot stand the commercialism). We decorate (pumpkins, gourds, corn, sunflowers, lots of coloured leaves/acorns/pinecones type decorations, etc.) and have a massive feast (turkey/stuffing/gravy type thing with all the yummy sides, pumpkin pies and apple crisp, etc.) on the long weekend, and generally enjoy the last of the fall weather. Our family has all kinds of traditions, mostly around the theme of "thankfulness," which is a big deal in our family anyway.

OTOH, we don't do much for Halloween as I am not a fan of the whole thing, but will have to start to get into it for DS I suppose.

Nope, I didn't start the Bench, I came along right at the start following Junglist and Tiredmum. So glad you got it going though Apocalypse (still want to call you Cheese, lol!).

CheerfulYank · 29/09/2010 16:06

gomummy · 30/09/2010 18:23

Hello Benchers! :) How is everyone today?

We have just had a lovely morning preparing some of the flower beds for winter (DS very skilled at pulling plants out and joyfully throwing them in the general direction of the wheelbarrow - helpful for the annuals but not ideal for my poor traumatized perennials!), then came in and made quesadillas for lunch and are now so stuffed that I wish it was still naptime after lunch, lol!

Ah yes, when I rule the world, I will magically ensure all children have at least an hour nap until school age. Oops, I must have floated into that nap and be dreaming... Grin

CheerfulYank · 30/09/2010 20:56

I love naps...I also love that DS is now old enough to quietly watch a DVD while I take one! :o Although that hasn't happened lately; I decided that he was watching entirely too much TV so I said no more except on weekends when we watch a movie together and have a family night. (During the day he watches an episode of Dora or Higglytown Heroes at daycare). It's been tough but so nice because it forces me to do a lot more activities with him...I find we've been going outside more, doing more art, etc... of course in a few months when the temperature hits thirty below and we can't go out I'm sure things will be different! :)

I'm over on the "living abroad in America" thread trying to convince them to do a Minnesota meetup this winter...any chance you lovelies want to come too?! :o

teaandcakeplease · 30/09/2010 23:19

Man I am getting behind on here! Hello lovelies!

Morning Tea! :) How are you today?

Cheerful I understand! We do no tv and spend a lot of time outside - I am dreading winter! Last year DS was still discovering everything, but not sure how I will occupy him this winter.

What does/did everyone do with toddlers when stuck indoors for long periods? Right now we mostly cook/bake, do little art projects, and a copious amount of reading....need more ideas?

CheerfulYank · 01/10/2010 16:03

Hi tea! :)

Gomummy one of DS's favorite games is "find it". He goes upstairs and I hide one of his stuffed animals in a sort of conspicuous place, and then I yell, "Find it!" and he comes down and looks for it. Giggles ensue....we are a simple people. Blush

It's amazing how much time that game takes up, plus I can get things done while he's looking for it. :)

CheerfulYank · 01/10/2010 16:05

Question for the Bench today:

If you could look like anyone in the world (besides your beautiful self, that is :o) who would it be? I was watching The Switch at the movie theater last night, and I decided that Jennifer Aniston gets my vote. :)

sandsad · 01/10/2010 16:07

Is there room on the bench for one more?

Smile
Tiredmumno1 · 01/10/2010 16:24

gomummy · 01/10/2010 16:26

Sure, always room, have a seat! :) Can we offer you a tea or coffee?

Love it Cheerful, we will definitely try "find it", thanks!

Have never though of who I would like to look like, if you can believe that! Will have to ponder that and return later!
