Oh forgot the lashings of gravy!

gomummygo · 07/12/2010 21:15

Tea that is SUCH a good book; I got it at your recommendation and it is excellent. I can see it being something that I will continually re-read as DS grows older.

Your Christmas sounds delicious. I am curious as to what is done with the sausage meat or how it is cooked? :)

Teaandchristmascakeplease · 07/12/2010 21:36

It's put in the turkey with the stuffing. Think neck is sausage meat and between the legs is stuffing but I've never cooked a turkey before, my mum has done it. This year is my first year at home and I'll be doing it for the first time ever. Eek!

Google GoMummy and double check. Or I'll tell you in a couple of weeks when I've opened the recipe books in my kitchen Grin

Teaandchristmascakeplease · 09/12/2010 21:19

Where are you all?

Terrible day, it was DD's turn to be a horror but now she's asleep I just want to go and snuggle down in bed with her. Confusing huh?

gomummygo · 09/12/2010 21:46

Confusing yes, but ikwym Tea. Tomorrow will hopefully be better after she's had a good sleep. Tiredness makes for misery in this house anyway!

I have been avoiding MN as I am a devout Corrie fanatic. We are about six months behind here. I don't want to spoil the tram crash (that didn't sound right Hmm) so am trying so hard to avoid any talk about it! Even our major newspapers are covering the Corrie 50th over there, so it is v. hard to avoid spoiling it!

CheerfulYank · 10/12/2010 15:58

Hi! I've been at home with the pinkeye. Ugh! Also lots of drama at work-double ugh!
How is everyone?!

gomummygo · 10/12/2010 17:45

Empathy for you Cheerful, we had conjunctivitis during our recent flu. Those new over-the-counter Polysporin drops for it are miraculous! Though it was an entirely new experience for me trying to get eye drops into a 2yo...think it was more like a shower for him!

What's up at work?

Teaandchristmascakeplease · 10/12/2010 21:19

Ok I'm officially childish, this thread has made me snigger and cry with laughter

Cheerful hope your eye is better now x

elmoschristmaswish · 11/12/2010 13:22

CheerfulYank · 11/12/2010 20:13

Hey all! I'm snowed in in Minneapolis (lovely city, so many fun things to do!) We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and ended up getting hit by a CRAZY blizzard. It's exciting; we walked half a mile through hip-high drifts to have a delicious, leisurely brunch. Mmmmmm! Now we're in full-on hibernation mode in another friend's apartment, hanging out in sweatpants and watching trashy TV.

I miss DH and DS but I have to say I'm loving life right now :o

Teaandchristmascakeplease · 11/12/2010 21:09

Ooo sounds lovely Cheerful Smile Envy

gomummygo · 12/12/2010 23:05

Hmm, seems you've sent it all north Cheerful! We are now totally snowed in, can't even move the vehicles more than a foot so certainly can't get out the driveway; the snowblowers can't touch it so we're in the queue waiting for the plow truck. First big one of the year and I can't even bake as we're on backup power now, which won't last that long.

We're quite happy though, far prefer the snow to the cold. :)

What did all you lovely buddy benchers do this weekend?

Teaandchristmascakeplease · 13/12/2010 19:24

Eeek help me ladies

CheerfulYank · 15/12/2010 16:05

How is everyone? Nothing is new with me except...DH and I are going to TTC next month! I'm so excited beyond words.

And ahem Tiredmum I already have a name shortlist. :o Actually I harrassed tired on FB so I could get her address and she said she's not been feeling well and asked me to say hello to you all. :(

Hope everyone else is well! Come back, come back!! :)

gomummygo · 15/12/2010 17:16

Ooooh Cheerful I am SO so so excited for you!!!!!

CheerfulYank · 15/12/2010 18:06

Ohmygosh, I do that all the time. "Um, yes, DH, I actually dropped the pan of brownies, so as you see there's only half left..." :o

Shortlist: For a girl it's Eleanora. It was DH's grandmother and I sort of inadvertedly made SIL feel like she couldn't use it because I loved it so much, so now I feel like I have to IYSWIM. Nn will probably be Elle. Mn will be Josephine (a form of my mother's name)

It's really tricky when it comes to boys! We already have a Sam. I love Jack and Finn (they aren't nearly as popular here as they are there!) and DH really really likes Alexander. (I think it's ok but am not that keen.) We both sort of like William and Rhys.

So, there you have it. :) The Cheerful Shortlist!

gomummygo · 15/12/2010 20:08

Thanks Cheerful....hadn't thought of dropping the pan! Grin

Ooh yay shortlist!

Eleanora Josephine is beautiful and goes well with your surname. Know one Eleanora who goes by Nora, but Elle is so pretty!

Jack is becoming really popular here, and Finn is adorable. Both go well with Alexander as a middle name? Would William be Billy? Rhys Alexander goes well too... ooh this will be a challenge for us you! Grin

Does anyone ever think about the word created by their DC's initials? ie. Cheeful if you called a DS Finn Alexander YourSurname? :)

Went out with a guy as a kid whose initials (when the middle name was included) formed a very unfortunate monicker that stuck and have always thought of this since!

gomummygo · 15/12/2010 20:09

Oops, failed at strikeout, now everyone will know it was mostly Baileys... Grin

CheerfulYank · 15/12/2010 23:14

I have thought of that, gomummy :) The initial thing I mean. My best friend's daughter has the initials GAG. :)

The hard thing about a middle name for a boy is that I want middle names to mean something or be after someone IYSWIM. So. I do like Finn Alexander though. FIL is James and I've considered Fintan James?! Hahahah, I put in so much thought over a name for a child not even conceived yet! Sigh...that's me though.

elmoschristmaswish · 16/12/2010 12:16

Big HELLO Smile

OMG cheerful that is fantastic news Xmas Grin
ooh it's getting exciting on this bench now xx
Love your name list BTW , DD's middle name is Josephine (dh's mothers name) its very cute Xmas Smile
I absolutely love Elle though . Our local news station was showing us pictures of the snowfall you had in your neck of the woods cheerful - it said you had almost 50cm of snowfall in one hour Xmas Shock is that true ?
I said out loud "oh poor cheerful" & the kids looked at me like i had lost my marbles lol .
Xmas Grin

elmoschristmaswish · 16/12/2010 12:28

tiredmum Sad hope you are feeling better soon (((hugs)))

gomummygo · 16/12/2010 13:09

Ikwym Cheerful, DS middle name is a family name as well. And not hahaha at all...we had our name shortlists more than a year before DS was conceived! Blush :)

Ha Elmo, DH came home last night and I gave him my cat-ate-the-gingersnaps story...he pointed at her sleeping and said "Erm...That cat has not moved an inch since I left for work this morning!" and laughed at my poor excuse making. Grin

CheerfulYank · 16/12/2010 16:05

Oh yes, Elmo, it was crazy. I was in the thick of it in Minneapolis. I've never seen that thick of a snowfall in my life. It was sort of fun though! The next morning everyone was lending a hand, digging people's cars out, trading shovels and mittens and hot coffee. Minnesotans have a very "it may be crap weather but it's our crap weather" defiant stance on the whole thing. :) We literally waded through the snow to go to brunch, it was hip high in some places.

elmoschristmaswish · 16/12/2010 18:55

Snow HIP high Xmas Shock & i thought we were bad with 12-14 inches Blush
We are bracing ourselves for more snow to hit within the next 24 hours .

CheerfulYank · 17/12/2010 18:23

Mmm, Xmas pudding! Thanks, Elmo. :)

Forgot the other name on the boy's shortlist for my yet to be conceived child : Declan. I really, really like it but DH is just ok with it. I liked it for DS too, and had I known that his birthday is actually really close to St. Declan's feast day I might have been able to use it. (I use DH's Catholicsm when it suits me :o)

What is everyone up to? I'm soooooooo ready for the weekend- it's barely after noon here so I've still got awhile to go.
