Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who enter the Gazebo and sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tired mum, Elmo, AF, HE, Cheesey and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up !

Oh I'm the same way, not to worry! My wedding/engagment rings are the only thing I wear with any regularity.

I think she'd wear it...

elmoschristmaswish · 04/12/2010 20:44

That's nice cheerful Smile

Maybe link a few choices & we can put it to a vote ?

CheerfulYank · 04/12/2010 20:47

It's so hard- there are loads I like but only a few I think she'd like. Sigh...hers was the one name I didn't want to get!

CheerfulYank · 04/12/2010 20:48

Oh and I would get it without the bobbly jewel things. It would have two initial charms, one with an "O" and one with a "V".

CheerfulYank · 04/12/2010 21:02

Oooh that might be nice...I'm sorting through 80 pages of necklaces on etsy.com. Arrgh! And I need to have it by Christmas...

elmoschristmaswish · 04/12/2010 21:14

elmoschristmaswish · 04/12/2010 21:25

"the normal people scare me" One Grin

Don't think your Sil would like it though lol

CheerfulYank · 04/12/2010 21:28

Oh LOL, yes that's a good one, but no, she wouldn't :)

gomummygo · 04/12/2010 23:08
CheerfulYank · 05/12/2010 01:26

:)

Hmm...what doesn't SIL like? She doesn't like big statement pieces or anything "funky" or "boho" or anything like that. One of my other SILs had a starfish necklace that the first SIL liked once, so that's why I thought of it :)

CheerfulYank · 05/12/2010 01:26

Er, feaSt, not feat :)

elmoschristmaswish · 05/12/2010 20:00

Hello lovelies on my way to bed but just popped in to say Heeeeelllllllllllllooooooooooooooooo Smile

Sad news about your neighbours Elmo. Got your Chrimbo card today, thanks you lovely x

So what's happening across the pond? Regale me with your tales ladies, this thread is getting so quiet lately.

gomummygo · 07/12/2010 14:09

Well tea, our news is snow, snow, and more snow, but that's not really news I suppose! :) Takes full 4x4 just to get out the driveway now, the main roads are pretty good once you get to them. Done preparing for Christmas including baking, all that remains is actually cooking the big meal as we are always the host. Are you all ready?

DS is entirely annoyed with the snow, keeps asking if the cucumbers will be ok under all this "white fluff" in a disapproving voice. Hmm

Ooh Tiredmum, have never met an Oliver, goes well with your surname too I think.

I am curious - is the "traditional" Christmas dinner the same everywhere? Does everyone do the turkey/stuffing/gravy/mashed potatoes/veggies/salads/pumpkin pie framework type thing? Or what is traditional elsewhere?

CheerfulYank · 07/12/2010 16:04

Snow, snow, and more snow here too! So glad I have the cabin to retreat too. :) Irritated with work right now- more on that later- and DH and I cannot seem to get our Christmas cards sorted. Doesn't he know I am a woman of the world and have many cards that need to travel overseas? :o

Also. DS has been just plain awful lately, there's no way around it. I think it is karma because he's been such a good boy up to now and I admit I was smug about it. :( I just don't know what to do with him lately! He talks back, screams, hits, everything is "no", and he needs to be in charge of every single thing happening every single minute. I'm ready to pull my hair out, honestly I am! Is anyone else going through this?

Really like Oliver tiredmum. It's apparently really popular in the UK but I only know of one here. I think it's really nice! And PM or FB your address to me, would ya?!! If I ever get these cards figured out I'll send you one. :)

Oh gomummy usually at Christmas we have ham. I know some people do turkey though. But everything else is the same :)

gomummygo · 07/12/2010 16:41

Aw Cheerful I feel your pain. DS was like that for a couple of weeks before his flu, then during the flu; seems to be a bit better now that he is recovering. It was a real shock for us as he's always been so well behaved. Now I do think much of it was down to incubating/illness though. He was not sleeping or eating well, which I was also part of it I suspect. Hope that's not the case with your DS though.

Anyway fwiw, the only minor thing that helped me cope was to stop asking him things or giving him choices and options - ie. instead of "are you ready for breakfast?", "Time for breakfast!" Also tried to maintain a teeth-gritting smile and false cheer as he seemed to want to wind me up, iykwim? Sorry not much help here, unless you are interested in my other coping mechanism, which was to go to the piano and play Amazing Grace really loudly! Blush

CheerfulYank · 07/12/2010 18:12

Actually the "false cheer" is really helpful! I do it so much at work that I should be used to it, but I don't seem to do it at home much and it is really helpful. Keep Calm and Carry On! Wink

Luckily he's so lovely and funny at this age when he's not being a screaming terror that it almost makes up for it! :)

Teaandchristmascakeplease · 07/12/2010 18:37

Star/ sticker charts? Time out? Keep being consistent, stay calm and have a plan of action already in mind before he kicks off, so you can go into survival mode rather than trying to think up a suitable punishment on the hop. Also praise praise praise for anything good along with the star chart and great rewards for x many stars. Try and make sure he eats and sleeps well and gets fresh air and exercise despite the weather as it could be cabin fever Wink

DD goes through stages of being a terror. Keep calm and carry on as you say Grin Or read how to talk so kids will listen etc. For more ideas.

I haven't even thought about christmas cards yet. Turkey, brussels sprouts, roast potatoes, roast parsnips and some other veg like swede and green beans or something, bread sauce, stuffing, sausage meat, cranberry sauce. Christmas pudding with brandy butter and cream. Vast quantities of wine, champagne and liquors like baileys is my kind of Christmas Grin Oh and chocolates Wink
