Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who enter the Gazebo and sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tired mum, Elmo, AF, HE, Cheesey and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up !

I would offer my bench for our meetup Tiredmum but it is now covered in evil white stuff...grr.

Has not been that cold here, below zero most nights for the last few weeks but not bad at all (we are centigrade too though). Don't know much about farenheit except that my DH says that I like to keep it about ninety degrees in the house! (Assuming that's pretty warm as I love a good toasty fire). Grin Do you know how to translate one to the other Cheerful? I would like to know what DH is really saying!

What is half-term Tea? I see it mentioned on MN all the time and have always wondered.

Tiredmumno1 · 21/10/2010 23:51

Oh yes god ol' half term, i am worried its gonna be so cold, and i am sure ds1 will want to go out and play football with daddy, what with me still with a bad cough and cold symptons and dh with a chest infection, we may have to put outdoor activities off.

sorry gomummy i meant to also say half term is one weeks holiday for the kids.

the teachers need a break [hgrin]

is the snow very thick yet?

i am enjoying a lovely hot choccy with marshmallows yummy

CheerfulYank · 22/10/2010 02:57

I only know how if I go online and type in "celsius to fahrenheit translator" gomummy. :o

I know, would love a meetup! Also I plan on sending you all Christmas cards so do whatever checks on me you need to so as to feel comfortable giving me your address :)

Teaandcakeplease · 22/10/2010 10:15

Cripes Cheerful your friends MIL is a shocker on your AIBU thread Shock

A card would be fab Smile

GoMummy that parcel hasn't arrived you were planning to send

gomummygo · 22/10/2010 13:38

Tea, I'd expect it to be there any day now. Nothing too exciting, it is from DS. :)

Oh yes, definitely same as Cheerful, Christmas cards to all those who would share their addies! :)

LOL Cheerful, I can also use the google converters, but would love to actually know how to convert them. Grin Just so I can know when DH is making fun of me!

Snow is gone thankfully, just a nice thick layer of frost to make the fields sparkly as the sun comes up.

Heads off to find AIBU thread...

Teaandcakeplease · 22/10/2010 19:12

Oooo exciting Smile

I know tea she is soooooo ridiculous. It doesn't help that my friend is very shy and reserved. Her ILS always take issue with it. Sigh...I could just slap her husband right now, I honestly could.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend! :)

elmofang · 23/10/2010 18:10

Hi cheerful Smile

How are you ? Do you have any snow yet ? its getting very cold here in Eire .

gomummygo · 23/10/2010 18:17

Snowed all night and it's not melting! I have made a big fire and a big pot of chili as I am in denial.

Anyhooo, Hello Buddy Benchers, how are you all this weekend? :)

Cheerful even though I was late to your other thread I had to comment, it must be so frustrating to see your friend dealing with that! Her MIL is ridiculous and her husband is worse! It is sort of too bad that she is shy and reserved as both MIL and her H deserve a good telling off!

:)

elmofang · 23/10/2010 18:33

[hshock] gomummy , fire sounds lovely though Smile . I have just encouraged cheerful to go right ahead & give her friends DH a well deserved slap Grin .

Teaandcakeplease · 23/10/2010 19:26

Mmmm chilli and a fire. Sounds lovely.

Sorry about the snow, let's see a piccy Smile

OP posts:
gomummygo · 24/10/2010 20:07

Sorry Tea, no piccy, it has all melted this afternoon, thankfully! Unfortunately this is the first chance I've had to even look out the window as poor DS has caught a brutal chest cold and had a terrible night.

I've done all the usual things (humidify, elevate head of cotbed, etc.) but I so hate it when it's something like a cold that you really can't help with, just has to run its course. :(

Seeing him all wheezy is just tearing me up....but I am also so grateful it's just a cold. A family not far away lost a child to a house fire last night. Puts a lot in perspective.

Sorry, emotional day here compounded with no sleep, will stop rambling now!

elmofang · 24/10/2010 20:28

Oh poor ds gomummy Sad Vick's vaporub (not sure if you can get that ) is very good to rub on his chest at bedtime but needs to be washed off in the morning. x

Sad oh that poor family Sad .

gomummygo · 24/10/2010 22:39

Thanks Elmo, have been out and picked up some Vicks, didn't know that it was ok for little ones, will give it a try tonight.

CheerfulYank · 25/10/2010 14:57

We have Baby Vicks here that is good for little ones, gomummy. We also have Vicks vaporizers which are nice.

Oh that poor poor family. :(

gomummygo · 25/10/2010 17:35

I have found that today Cheerful, also in Walmart. At least I think it's what you mean - it's called Vicks BabyRub? I have one of the Vicks vaporizers but have not put it in DS room, wonder if that would be ok? Have just been using a humidifier as I wasn't sure about the vaporizer, especially as his room is quite tiny.

Yes DH and I had a long talk last night about what that poor family must be going through, it is unimaginable. :(

gomummygo · 25/10/2010 18:47

I have a question for you Buddy Benchers. Does anyone know anything about child sponsorship? We have always wanted to do this for DS with a child around his age that he could correspond with as they grow, etc., and feel that he is now of an age where he could begin to grasp it, so wanted to start for Christmas. However, we've heard so many stories...want to find a reputable organization and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations?

Teaandcakeplease · 25/10/2010 19:00

I can highly recommend Compassion GoMummy. It was so lovely and we wrote to each other often. I had to stop as things got so tricky financially thanks to my H Sad

elmofang · 25/10/2010 19:08

How is ds today gomummy ? I have not seen the baby-rub Vick's here just the normal one i must look out for it though.DD's hospital consultant recommended for me to use a small amount on her chest and to wash it off in the morning before i take her outside as the Vick's can leave the pores open .
Sponsoring a child is a lovely idea Smile but i dont know of any organizations sorry .x
Have you tried Karvol decongestant ? I put a few drops onto a tissue & put it under dd's pillow or tie it onto her headboard & it helps clear her nose when she has a bad cold .

Teaandcakeplease · 25/10/2010 19:24

Karvol do a vapour rub which I've used, as do calpol called calrub. So loads out there in the UK to choose from Smile

gomummygo · 25/10/2010 19:42

Thanks very much for the link Tea, it looks like exactly what we are searching for, and a recommendation is important to us as we've read a lot of unfortunate stories about some organizations. The ability to stop if needed is also important as part of our objective is for DS (with my help of course!) to "earn" the monthly contribution in various ways - ie. we've already done a yard sale for the first few months' contributions. He may be too young to "get" that part yet, but hoping eventually it will make sense to him. Hopefully things will be sorted for you soon Tea, wrt your exH and finances. It must be v. frustrating for you that he has put you in that position. :(

DS is a bit better today Elmo, got a bit of sleep last night, starting to play a bit which must be good. The BabyRub looks just like the regular Vicks container; the only place I came across it was Walmart, which is a US based.

Can't find anything by the name of Karvol here though. Ahh, yet another reason Cheerful and I must find ourselves a private jet... Grin

Teaandcakeplease · 25/10/2010 21:56

Lots of my pals also sponsor through them, it's a great Company.

Drama and fun here today. Posted all about it on my recently ditched thread. Need to go to bed as DD may wake a lot tonight due to it. Gah!

gomummygo · 25/10/2010 23:04

Entering our info online as we speak, and DH says to say thanks for the recommendation Tea! :) Hope we get our initial package in time for Christmas.

Tiredmumno1 · 25/10/2010 23:26

Hi all,

gomummy, Sad to hear ds is poorly, hope he starts to get better soon, i have had this cold for 3 weeks, i am still a little bunged up, and got the horrible cough still, the weather does not help.

not to much going on here at the minute, i know, how boring eh, but i really do not wanna spend one minute more outside than i have to.

Tiredmumno1 · 25/10/2010 23:29
