As promised, a new thread.

As the title states, this is the third thread. It started for those of us who wanted some support and a safe place to navigate a 100 day alcohol reset. Most of us on the thread wanted more time and space than Dry January to fully reset and maybe reflect more on our relationship with alcohol than one month.

What we also found was the most wonderfully supportive and uplifting set of folk, all with the common intention of being AF from January for 100 days. A few blips along the way for some (including me at the beginning) but for those that have, we’ve tried to understand why they happened and most of us have continued to be AF going forward and managed 100 AF days since January.

We are going for another 100 (we all liked the idea of breaking being AF into chunks of time) and I don’t think it matters one bit if new folk want to climb on board and start from here, we can all offer a friendly and non judgmental place here.

Checking in… how’s everyone doing?! My life has changed ☺️ it’s 8.15pm and I’m waiting for my badminton buddy to turn up at the gym! This time last year I’d have been on glass number 3 by now. I hope you are all well and keeping focused even if you had the occasional wobble ☺️ Today is day 267 £2,754.00 saved and 176.3k calories saved .. don’t even think about having a glass of wine! I have had some serious wobbles when life has been tricky (as we all do) but never turned my attention to alcohol-massively proud of that!

You should be proud of yourself @therockingbird. Day 265 to me (I had to tot it up). I've saved a fortune on wine but also on other things I didn't need that I would buy because - better than buying 2 bottles of wine on their own.

I absolutely don't crave it at all anymore. i love being able to drive any time of the day or night. I love waking up every morning feeling clearheaded. I love that when dh says to me "can I ask you something" it will be an interesting question and not him trying desperately to introduce the subject of my drinking. I'm still careful - I think through new situations. I have a wedding coming up soon and then there is xmas but I'm not really worried. I'm looking forward to the day when I'm not thinking about drinking and I'm not thinking about NOT drinking either - I'm just being.

Well done both! It’s so good to hear how happy and content you seem.
Dat 267 for me, over 2.5 k saved and about 25 pounds down.
Im so glad I gave up and for me nothing good came out of drinking. Friends have been supportive and although I get the odd “ why don’t you just have one” now comment I feel comfortable enough to explain that one doesn’t and probably never will work for me.
Looking back I don’t think the benefits kicked in for me until around May. I had a girl I know at the gym say that she’s doing Sober October as she “ thought of me” and I encouraged her but for me it took several months to feel the benefit. But one month off is still amazing. If I had achieved that this time last year, I would have been delighted with myself!
I have a weekend away approaching which will be boozing with the family but I think I ll be ok. Had a dreadful day at work yesterday and was angry and upset when I got home but reached for an alcohol free can in the back of the fridge and it hit the spot. I rarely think of wine now whereas before it was ( embarrassingly) always on my mind.
So nearly nine months down we are doing great and I’d like to think this is it for me now.
I miss this thread when it goes quiet and still tick of my days on the app.
Would be great to hear from others!

Good to hear from you both and amazing to hear you are both still staying on track 👏
I also still tick off the ‘try dry’ app when I remember.. I don’t see me ever drinking again to be honest - like you say @SwiftyFifty one won’t be enough so no point breaking a good habit to please others. My bloating is gone, I’d say that kicked in around 3 months. I just look so much healthier on the outside - no doubt my insides are benefiting to! I’m super proud of us all, I know I’ve said it before but it still stands.. never didn’t imagine that I’d get this far!! It was a very unhealthy lifestyle and I was so desperate to kick the habit, looking back I was no doubt a functioning alcoholic. The excuses to get a whoosh delivered (just for the wine) the speed in which that first glass went down.. 🫣 what worries me now is how easy it is to fall into that cycle - never again! I just simply cannot risk it. Keep posting of your still lurking out there.. it’s always nice to catch up and support each other xx

Hi @SwiftyFifty - I’ve hopped over to the other thread as it is a little busier and I like that. I think I followed you!!

I was also a functioning alcoholic too @therockingbird, looking back that’s obvious to me now. Now, I’ve just brought an unopened bottle of wine back from our holiday (an arrival hamper is provided). It’ll do for people coming at Christmas 🙃
