Staring tomorrow. Successfully did sober October last year and drank on November 1st and have done almost every day since.

Determined to make this my starting point again - anyone want to join here for mutual support?

Also any recommendations for podcasts to listen to for starting short bursts sober journeys welcome

Good for you @Thornrose that sounds like a realistic plan.

PeacheyPeach · 27/10/2023 18:52

@43ontherocksporfavor I really think that's the way forward for me, I really don't want to give up drinking all together because I enjoy it, but I think it's got to be just when I'm out or we have guests, or if me and DH plan to have a nice date night supper at home once a month, but actually even then I don't know if I'm going to drink, I just can't be bothered! For me Ive not missed it, I've not craved it or felt I was missing out, I have loved waking up without feeling sick or having a banging headache throughout the day, I feel clean if that makes sense!?
I don't know If I want to go back to that again!!!

43ontherocksporfavor · 27/10/2023 21:36

Definitely @PeacheyPeach . Tonight I drove DH and me to an old fave retro burger restaurant, had a 0% beer with my food and now home for a cup of tea and Gogglebox. 😆

43ontherocksporfavor · 28/10/2023 17:13

How are you all doing? Last weekend in full swing. Stay strong 💪🏻

Thornrose · 28/10/2023 19:53

Still staying strong...because I'm too scared to drink 😂

I decided to have a little drink earlier but the thought of it makes me actually feel nauseous! I also couldn't face the idea of feeling rough and jaded tomorrow.

So drinking Fever Tree Mexican Lime Soda which is delicious. 🍸

43ontherocksporfavor · 28/10/2023 20:39

That’s interesting @Thornrose and well done. I’ve had the day and evening to myself and went to the supermarket to get something nice to eat . I usually would buy wine to go with and watch some TV etc but just didn’t want to at all. There is no craving at all. The only alcoholic that feels appealing is red wine but don’t feel I need it. Asked DH last night if I was less fun 🤩. He said I’m the same and he’s in awe ! So that was a boost. I’ve only ever done DJ with him so this is new territory.

Thornrose · 28/10/2023 21:00

I love this @43ontherocksporfavor it must be great to have someone give that perspective and reassurance.

I think by saying to myself "go on you can have a drink" I took control if that makes sense. Then realised I genuinely didn't want one, such a disfunctional relationship!

I'm a work in progress that's for sure. 🤔

PeacheyPeach · 28/10/2023 21:15

Last weekend and I think we've done pretty amazing 🤩

DH asked me if I was going to have a drink this weekend and you know I couldn't even imagine having one 😄
So glad I've had this month to have a reset and bring myself back into line again as I literally hadn't had an evening off drinking all year, 😕
Feeling great 👍

43ontherocksporfavor · 28/10/2023 22:20

This is so good 😊

43ontherocksporfavor · 29/10/2023 21:44

How are you all? End of the 4th weekend and November in sight!
Had a big walk today with the dog punctuated by a coffee stop and not a beer stop.

PeacheyPeach · 30/10/2023 16:59

Hey all 🤗
Hope your all doing great 😃
Just watched a post on tik Tok about how not drinking has really helped with Peri menopause, it was really interesting and something that after this month I can really identify with xx

Thornrose · 30/10/2023 17:24

Hey 👋 all going well for me too. 4 weeks, I'm so bloody proud. No intention of drinking this week. Maybe on Friday as I'm going out but still unsure.

I noticed something yesterday, the whites of my eyes are so clear and white! They really do look different.

I mean I never noticed that they weren't white before. But they were often a bit bloodshot and dull.

43ontherocksporfavor · 30/10/2023 17:58

@Thornrose oh my god the same !!! I’ve always had visible blood vessels in my eyes, one in particular but they’re much reduced. It seems so flippin obvious doesn’t fit but it’s so encouraging. 👀

43ontherocksporfavor · 30/10/2023 18:00

Another thing but I’m not sure if it’s the collagen I started 3 weeks ago or the lack of booze, but I’m sprouting more eyebrow at the edges. These have been depleted for a while.

PeacheyPeach · 30/10/2023 20:50

I've definitely lost weight around my middle aswell, a lot of bloat has gone which is a real boost for my confidence, I was starting to feel very square and matronly so this is another reason why I need to carry on, I think losing weight in your 40s is a lot harder so want to keep on top of it x

PeacheyPeach · 31/10/2023 11:38

Well we've done it ladies ❤️😃
How are you all feeling about it ??
A month ago I was absolutely stuck in a drinking rut 😭
Every day without fail I drank, my stomach was so bloated as was my face, and I was full of aches and pains
I had this permanent feeling of guilt because I knew it wasn't healthy, the money side of it also I must have been spending over £50 a week on drink alone and that was just being at home nevermind when we go out!
I'm feeling great today 😄 I got out of the habit and that feeling of having to have a drink each evening has simply gone,
I really hope that this stays with me, it's so easy to slip back into drinking , sat on the sofa watching the TV and I really don't want to go back to the that!!
Am looking forward to maybe a few social drinks in the next few weeks but I might not even drink then I'll see how I feel when I'm there!!
Thank you for being such a great support this month it's really helped me knowing that we were all in this together 😍

Amdone123 · 31/10/2023 12:04

@PeacheyPeach what a fantastically heart warming and inspirational post. ❤️

Well done to everyone on here, no matter how far you got.
I've been cheering you on from the sides 👏

I've had about 24 af days in October so pretty pleased with myself.
November I'm aiming for 25.

Ohtobehappy · 31/10/2023 15:34

Hi everyone

Well done to you all. It has been so great following this thread.

I managed 22 days. Its been years since I ever did that so although I am disappointed in myself for not sticking with the whole 31, I will congratulate myself on a little win.

Now for the moderating.................................

Thornrose · 31/10/2023 18:33

Great to hear from everyone, we did good 😇 I've loved this thread so much.

@PeacheyPeach you've said it perfectly, I agree with every word.

@Amdone123 that's a fantastic way to look at it.

@Ohtobehappy brilliant, moderating here we come!

@43ontherocksporfavor I can't wait to see what other benefits there are without booze! I'm hoping for whiter teeth now I'm not swilling with red wine!

And to everyone else who give it a go...👏🏼

I'm going to keep wittering on here from time to time. Just to keep myself on the straight and narrow! And to remind myself of how I've felt, good and bad.

Thanks for everyone's support x

43ontherocksporfavor · 31/10/2023 19:02

Hi everyone! Congratulations on all of your AF days be it 20 or 31 or more. We made it. I had a stressful day today and have just realised I hadn’t even thought of having a drink. That’s a win isn’t it? Here’s to our less bloated bellies, whiter teeth and eyes, fuller eyebrows and healthier bank balances … oh and last but not least, shiny new livers and healthier bodies! Cheers ☕️ 🫖 🥳💪🏻👀🤩
ps thanks for listening and helping and I’m happy to come back and check in each week if everyone else is up for it.

againmaeve · 31/10/2023 19:29

Congratulations everyone who did the whole month. I also did 22 days and am disappointed I didn't manage 31. Definitely plan to use it as a sober springboard

InOtherWords · 31/10/2023 21:44

Hi everyone.
I managed 22 days, but have been checking in here, and haven't resorted to my usual drinking every night.
Well done to everyone who has done any length of time, and especially the 31 day veterans.

I like being accountable- can we keep this chat going?

PeacheyPeach · 31/10/2023 22:14

Hey everyone 🤗
I think it would be great to keep this thread going
Especially to keep us going with the moderating 😍

ViTriesDry · 01/11/2023 00:45

Hello everyone. I've been lurking & have been so inspired by you all, well done! I started on the 3rd, I was feeling rubbish but what a difference 4 weeks makes. I'll be continuing AF for now. Thanks for sharing your experiences, it's really helped.

Ohtobehappy · 01/11/2023 08:45

Hi everyone

I would love to keep this thread going I find it really helps on both accounts - if I am not doing so well and need motivation or if I need some support from people who dont judge and are in the same boat. I dont really feel like I have anyone I can talk to about the problems with the demon drink. My husband is great but I think even he sometimes thinks "why did you need to go and buy wine on a Tuesday night" !!!!!
