Staring tomorrow. Successfully did sober October last year and drank on November 1st and have done almost every day since.

Determined to make this my starting point again - anyone want to join here for mutual support?

Also any recommendations for podcasts to listen to for starting short bursts sober journeys welcome

@43ontherocksporfavor well done - I don't mind 0% beer either.
I'm struggling today.
On Friday I bought 2 bottles of wine, drank 1.5. Saturday I poured the rest down the sink. Today I'm both regretting that decision and thanking God I did that, as no doubt about it - if it's there I will drink it.
And half a bottle would probably have led to more.
I'll be ok this week Monday to Fri, possibly Saturday. It's Sundays I struggle.
Day's almost over and I'm not an evening drinker, lunchtime is when I start, so that's a good thing.

43ontherocksporfavor · 01/10/2023 16:54

@Amdone123 Sunday lunch preparation is key wine time for me. That’s why I think a 0% beer might be helpful in future. I’ll be fine after dinner and like you on the weekdays. When I’ve done dry Jan I found a nice glass with ice and sparkling water with fancy cordial helped or slimline tonic with sliced lime really helped hit that spot.

Amdone123 · 01/10/2023 17:03

@43ontherocksporfavor thanks.
Yes, I always craved wine when cooking but for the past few years, I enjoy sparkling water and lemon.
It's just a craving really, but thankfully it's passed.
Sometimes I think it's because I've committed to it ? Pressure on myself ? Being a bit rebellious, even 🤣
I've told myself to just try with you lovely lot, and help from the other thread.
If I have a blip, so be it. That thinking helps.

Great to see so many of us here!! 💪🏻

Day 1 and 5pm trigger is hitting - but ignoring the craving as that’s all it is, a craving.

How is everyone else getting on as the evening draws in?

That’s amazing @IrisBearded and I hope to say the same in 9 months! I love sassy sober mum but haven’t heard of the others so thanks also for those recommendations 👌🏻

I've not had a drink since December 10th. Did from Boxing Day to July the year before as well. I read the unexpected joy of being sober and that was so helpful

43ontherocksporfavor · 01/10/2023 17:17

Wow! I’m not looking to give up, just a reset. Do you live with someone that does drink?

Cantdoitallperfectly · 01/10/2023 17:18

Hello, I’ll join too. I have a wine habit that needs curbing, it doesn’t help that DP gets various deliveries of boxes throughout the month. We have both stopped over the last 2 weeks but caved last night while watching the tv and eating takeaway. I enjoy a glass while cooking and then end up finishing the bottle.
I feel bloated and sluggish and I sleep poorly so really so need to stop. It’s hard.

Poopertrooper · 01/10/2023 17:22

@Cantdoitallperfectly welcome 👋 it’s an easy habit to fall into and like you I’m really not sleeping well and also my anxiety is bad often, I think I’m approaching perimenopause so I know the vino doesn’t mix well with hormones

I'd like to join. I'm drinking tonight because in my head starting on a Monday makes sense.

Actually that's just one of a million excuses/reasons I use to drink daily! Which is why I need to knock drinking on the head for a while.

Poopertrooper · 01/10/2023 17:56

@Thornrose you’re in the right place I do that weekly! Oh I’ll stop on Sunday… actually no that’s still the weekend I’ll wait till Monday… well Monday has been stressful…no point stopping on Tuesday I’ll wait til the weekend… and repeat! We can do this altogether 😁 and let yourself off tonight x

Thornrose · 01/10/2023 17:59

Yep, that's me to an absolute T, actually exhausting isn't it.

So I'll be here tomorrow...I'm really going to do this. Thanks for the inspiration 😁

43ontherocksporfavor · 01/10/2023 18:02

The first week is the hardest. We’ll feel great if we can get to next Sunday evening dry. I’m vain so I’m focusing on skin and sleep.

Poopertrooper · 01/10/2023 18:27

@43ontherocksporfavor that is a great focus though. The last year my skin has been so dry and uneven and I always look so tired.

@43ontherocksporfavor even covered in make up I’ll see a photo of myself and think good god do I look that haggard regularly I’m only 38 🤣

Hey. Good to hear most people are fairing quite well. I'm through the danger zone now so feeling pretty good. I didn't have any cravings as such but I also didn't give myself time to crave wine because I had food early and lots of it! Usually day 3 is the worst for me though, so not looking forward to that but I will also be prepared for it.

Tonight I'm going to drink herbal tea (yogi do some really lovely and unusual flavours) and read some quit lit. I'm so looking forward to getting some decent sleep, my first (but not last) booze free night for two weeks! 💜

Poopertrooper · 01/10/2023 18:42

Sounds good @Accidentaladult! Hope you get a good nights sleep. I had a Trip CBD peach and ginger and it’s made me feel really zen! Will be making use of those regularly this month 🙏🏻

1 bottle of Sauvignon =600 cals! 😯

InOtherWords · 01/10/2023 19:06

Checking in so I don't chicken out!
Same reasons as the rest of you. Managed to get through cooking dinner without my wine for company so that's a good start.

(My birthday is towards the end of the month so no sure how that's going to work out. I'll deal with it when it comes around.)

Swanchaser · 01/10/2023 20:50

Went out with the grandchildren today, my usual habit would be to stop and buy a bottle on the way home. Resisted the urge tonight, and am off to bed early to get through day one successfully .

PeacheyPeach · 01/10/2023 20:55

I love the dryApp I love ticking off each day!!

43ontherocksporfavor · 01/10/2023 21:28

Got so much energy for a Sunday night. The house is clean and tidy cos I’ve just watched two episodes of Sort Your Life Out which always gives me the urge to do more housework. I’ve just swept and mopped all the hard floors at 9pm😂. DH is like 🤔 . It’s only day 2 for me. Looking forward to another good sleep. Hope you’ve all got through ok.

MaximumSunshine · 02/10/2023 03:47

Im in, had surgery 28/09 so not drank since 15/09 and aiming for 31/10

I would liek to drink only 2 days per week but have lots of friendship groups and love socialising and talking people get funny when i dont drink. Sometimes I dont go due to this.

If i didnf socialise (only witj DH) ideal is x2 drinks twice a week, with soft drinks. Its others fhat pressurise me to drink more (not DH(

Do dry Jan & sober Oct every yr, good excuse to avoid drinking. Surprises me how few of my friends make it tbh. Sad really

Amdone123 · 02/10/2023 08:07

Day 1 ✅
Feeling positive and capable. Yesterday was tricky and I was very tempted - so glad that half bottle went down the drain on Saturday.
@MaximumSunshine I know what you mean about the peer pressure. Sometimes I just pretend I'm drinking - that's sad !
