Anyone doing Dry January 2021?

I was going to go sober this year...but for various reasons (excuses) it didn't happen. DP and I have agreed to try Dry January as we are both drinking too much. Anyone else fancy coming along for the ride?

So I don't forget I've set up a DJ#2 thread - we're rattling through this one at a fair old pace.

@Blessex that's an interesting comparison...I'm a non-preachy vegan and eating meat subs has never made me crave the 'real' thing. Though I never loved meat like I love alcohol.

My headaches and sleep disturbance eased on day 9. I wouldn't say I'm usually a huge drinker but I did drink every day over the Christmas break. I have just tried a AF gin from Ocado - I think it's brilliant! Not 100% gin like but definitely good enough that I will order again. It's Gin Botanicals, hibiscus and rose. On offer at the moment.

SantaMonicaPier · 10/01/2021 17:50

@MyGhastIsFlabbered

I can't work out if AF wine/gin would help or make things worse for me. Tempted by the nosecco though.
Def helps for me but appreciate not the same for everyone. Really appreciate this thread, feeling very supported and not sure I would have made it this far on my own.

@Blessex

Welcome *@LittleBeee*!!! So have just been on a food shop and stocked up. I bought the new Gordon’s 0% gin. Haven’t tried yet but a friend said is really a good copy. So will check back in later ;-). Also I love Guinness and so picked up this AF stout in Waitrose. I have just sipped some and it is really a great copy. So any stout or Guinness lovers out there - I recommend this. Also got a couple of wine copies - don’t usually like any of those but will report back. I was looking for the Noughty Prosecco recommended up thread but it had sold out. Right that’s the next few days sorted!
How much does the gin cost? I'm looking for AF options for next weekend.
Blessex · 10/01/2021 18:02

@CoronaIsWatching 12 quid in Waitrose. Which is better value than the 9 quid bottle of Prosecco as it will last me a while now. Still want to try the Prosecco tho when I can get my hands on it.

ApolloandDaphne · 10/01/2021 18:09

I am trying to decide of I might buy the Seedlip gin. I am interested in the Gordon's 0% one. I will watch for an update with interest!

dementedma · 10/01/2021 18:11

The cider is ok actually. Had the berry one with ice and a chunk of lime

BlueSussex · 10/01/2021 18:15

I threw a load of Becks Blue down the sink afetr Christmas as it had gone out of date.

I can't see the point really. It doesn't usually taste good and I drink alcohol for the fuzzy feeling, not the taste.

3orangekissesfromkazan · 10/01/2021 18:20

This is an amazing dupe for prosecco.

Highly recommended 👍🏼

@3orangekissesfromkazan right have just ordered that. I want to build a great bank of AF options. Glad your cider was good @dementedma. @ApolloandDaphne I have the seedlip and the gin. Seedlip is great but isn’t a gin substitute - it just tastes like a bitter spirit. I am sitting here with my zero Gordon’s. It has this weird sweetness but then I am super super sensitive to artificial sweetener - cannot stand it - and wonder it that is setting me off.

Is the Seedlip nice? I quite enjoy bitter things. Do you have it with tonic or what?

Blessex · 10/01/2021 18:43

@ApolloandDaphne I prefer the seedlip garden. In a big gin glass with tonic and ice. Yes it is nice. I have just read some Tesco reviews on the zero Gordon’s and someone there says it takes like it contains sucralose. It has zero sugar in the nutritional data so much contain sweetener.

MintyCedric · 10/01/2021 18:52

Well...Eisberg Merlot...

Smells like feet, tastes like watered down, undersweetened Ribena 😒.

Have put an AF Doom Bar in to quick chill...we'll see ..

PeacheyPeach · 10/01/2021 19:07

Evening all !!! DAY 10 🤗 can't believe how fast it has gone. Feeling like my body is getting rid of all the toxins that alcohol brings, my skin is looking a bit spotty but I feel like it's lost the puffiness.

I feel with AF wines and beers that for me they would be a trigger to actually start drinking again so I'm sticking with diet coke, I was going to have tonic the other night but just couldnt be bothered, as i realise i only like the sharp taste when it comes along with a "fuzzy feeling!!"
Everyone is doing great especially with everything going on at the minute, xxx

OhioOhioOhio · 10/01/2021 19:21

That's it. The sharp taste. Where can I grt a soft drink with a sharp taste?
I also think the af alcohol would be a trigger for me.

3orangekissesfromkazan · 10/01/2021 19:28

@Blessex let me know what you think. To me it is very like real prosecco. It's got tgat 'bite' to it.. very nice indeed.

Haybo26 · 10/01/2021 19:52

I'm really enjoying Robinsons lime and mint cordial with sparkling water and a slice of lime.

OhioOhioOhio · 10/01/2021 19:54

That sounds nice.

mrsnibblesisahero · 10/01/2021 19:54

@Blessex having seedlip garden with Mediterranean tonic and cucumber tonight, is so much nicer than with lemon!
