Anyone doing Dry January 2021?

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 28/12/2020 17:39

I was going to go sober this year...but for various reasons (excuses) it didn't happen. DP and I have agreed to try Dry January as we are both drinking too much. Anyone else fancy coming along for the ride?

@OhioOhioOhio for the worse currently Confused. I’ve got spots and dry patches and my eyes are puffy!!

I chalking it up to having a night owl 7yrnold (needs me to settle him at 11:30pm!) and a early riding 2yr old. Plus I don’t usually go for sweet stuff which I’ve been mainlining for the last ten days Grin.

MoonBaby1 · 10/01/2021 07:59

On a more positive note day 10!!!!!
Well done everyone, I’m so proud of us all.

CandyLeBonBon · 10/01/2021 08:00

Whoooo freakin' whooooo!!! 10 days you lovely lit! 10 flipping days! It is YEARS since I've gone 10 days without alcohol! I don't think I look any different but I feel better!

SantaMonicaPier · 10/01/2021 08:27

I did some deep cleaning yesterday for the first time in years. Is this what non drinkers do when they don't have a foggy head all weekend?

CandyLeBonBon · 10/01/2021 08:34

Haha @SantaMonicaPier well I'm up and waiting for my Asda delivery which is unheard of on a normal Sunday!

Hepzibar · 10/01/2021 08:41

Day 10. Would never have thought I would even do this let alone get this far. Thanks to everyone on this thread, it's been a massive help.
I am seeing the benefits, as others, heart rate down, breathless much better (who even knew that was connected to alcohol?) Headaches gone (hallelujah) and just a general feeling of being 'with it' and less lethargic.

I looked at DJ as a way of starting stopping, and am currently feeling like I will go on.

I'm addicted to the DJ threads now!

3orangekissesfromkazan · 10/01/2021 08:44

I'm actually up and don't feel like utter crap!

Happy day 10 ( or wherever you are) everyone!

OhioOhioOhio · 10/01/2021 09:00

I really like the idea that this is the beginning of me starting to stop.
I've learned that if you say you are doing a dry month people back off and don't persuade you to drink. However, like others I can't imagine being t total. One day I'd love a new relationship and one of my favourite things is sharing wine with food. Or coming in after a long cold walk and having a bailiies coffee in a fancy glass. But. I want that to happen hardly ever and for it to be a real one off.

OhioOhioOhio · 10/01/2021 09:01

SantaMonicaPier

That's so funny. I did my grocery shop late last night too!

3orangekissesfromkazan · 10/01/2021 09:02

Has anyone lost a few lbs so far?

Trying2021 · 10/01/2021 09:12

I’m definitely seeing some benefits. Lost 3lbs, lower heart rate, drinking lots of water and my wee is nearly the colour of water! Sorry that last one may be TMI Blush

Rolo1324 · 10/01/2021 09:13

Good morning day 9 for me as I broke Friday night. Found a couple of posts on here upsetting yesterday but on reflection know they weren't directed at me and it was my own guilt as I'd let myself down...... anyway dealt with that 💪💪 and enjoyed my first unbroken sleep since I stated and feel really good 😌

OhioOhioOhio · 10/01/2021 09:16

Rolo1324
I'm sorry you were upset. Don't be hard on yourself.

SwiftyFifty · 10/01/2021 09:24

Morning all
I have lost three pounds ( despite eating waaay more sweet stuff than usual)
My stomach is a smidge flatter
Eyebags definitely improved
Face looks leaner ( hello cheekbones!)
Wee is less concentrated (hey we are all friends here)
Breath doesn’t stink in the morning!
I’m more productive
Last night had my first brilliant sleep
Way more patience
Not “ bored” as I thought I would be.
Resting heartbeat is 72 I think - not sure what it was though but think that’s healthy anyway.
Not waking in a pool of sweat at night - less clothes washing ( bonus!)
NO BLOODY GUILT
Was meant to go on a zoom call last night but didn’t fancy explaining myself or possibly being tempted to drink so avoided it

@Rolo1324 yes I agree some seemed a bit harsh but you don’t know what struggles these people have so maybe it’s their way of coping. Nine days is bloody fantastic

I’m hoping I don’t struggle mid afternoon who just cooking the roast.

Happy Sunday everyone

mrsnibblesisahero · 10/01/2021 09:24

@Taytotots it was lovely! But I just checked as my DH 'fixed' it for me, it was Mediterranean tonic from fevertree rather than regular. Think that may have enhanced it? It was the Garden Seedlip. Very distinctive and felt like a proper drink.

goldpendant · 10/01/2021 09:27

@OhioOhioOhio you've described exactly how I want my relationship with it to be - as a real treat, say when we ever go out again for a nice meal, a fancy cocktail in a nice bar etc. Not my daily or even weekly crutch at the end of work/kids bath time.

This dry jan is definitely helping. The weekend has been surprisingly easy, I've had the urge once or twice but it quickly passes, and I'm waaaay more productive too, distracting myself with chores or the latest DIY project I'm taking on in the house. DH has got one of those bike trainers and is doing it in the shed at 'witching hour' - the lbs are definitely falling off him already.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 10/01/2021 09:28

Morning all. Woken up with a thumping head this morning which is annoying. Hoping to start to feel better soon - I think it's taking longer for me to feel the benefit because I was drinking far, far too much so the 'detox' is taking longer. Onwards and upwards.

Lost a couple of pounds so far and skin not looking too bad. Heading into day 9. Can't wait for double figures.

Think I'm going to do a regular 10 day cleanse. Every three months at least.

mrsnibblesisahero · 10/01/2021 09:36

@goldpendant that's an impressive aim. I'm embarrassed I'm aiming lower. I'm going for weekends only, less, and regular cleanses. I think maybe I can do better though.

Please don't take it personally @Rolo1324 - your journey is yours. You had a break, and you've started again. That's a HUGE achievement because it would be SO easy to just say 'well fuck it, I've done it now' (that's often my mindset with good too). But you haven't. Please don't underestimate the power of powering through in spite of perceived 'failures' (they're not by the way. You're a human being living a normal life which entails ebbs and flows and ups and downs). The fact that you can continue after a 'blip' is massive. I hope you recognise that? Thanks
Blessex · 10/01/2021 10:00

@Rolo1324 I thought about this quite a lot yesterday after reading some posts. Dry Jan is for people who want a break from alcohol for a month. If people really are struggling hard then maybe a more serious addiction thread should be for them anyway. You are doing super well!!!! As is everyone here. Smile

Els1e · 10/01/2021 10:01

I’ve just gone and weighed myself and I’ve lost 3lb in the 10 days. And that’s with me being out of control around food, especially sweet stuff. Now, if I could start making an effort with developing a balanced diet, I could really get to the weight I want to be.

Blessex · 10/01/2021 10:04

@Els1e wowow. That’s amazing to hear! Yes I am eating quite a lot of sweet stuff too. I don’t have scales so am looking at how my jeans fit Grin

Rolo1324 · 10/01/2021 10:16

Thank you so much for your supportive comments really appreciate you taking the time....one day at a time xx

BlueSussex · 10/01/2021 10:23

Little tip for anyone doing online meet ups with friends where you don't want to get into why you aren't drinking.......Use a coloured glass.

I have some blue glass tumblers and wine glasses and nobody would know that my water/lemonade/coke isn't wine/vodka/whatever.
