Anyone doing Dry January 2021?

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 28/12/2020 17:39

I was going to go sober this year...but for various reasons (excuses) it didn't happen. DP and I have agreed to try Dry January as we are both drinking too much. Anyone else fancy coming along for the ride?

Have been lurking all week and finding the thread really helpful. Haven't had a drink since nye and I'm amazed at what it's done to my resting heart rate

Yeah op. I think if have given up without this thread too.

Youngatheart00 · 09/01/2021 22:27

Wow @Baileyscoffeeandcampfires that’s mad about the heart rate (which is pretty low anyway - you must be pretty fit!!)

Shows that our bodies have to work hard in processing the alcohol, even when we think we are resting.

mrsnibblesisahero · 09/01/2021 22:31

Seedlip herbal with tonic and lemon game changer for me on day 8. Absolutely perfect! I think I'm getting used to eating dinner without wine which would have been unthinkable a while ago. Whenever in laws used to come and not drink with dinner my DH joined them (they all had a drink later) but I couldn't get my head around it so was the only one to drink with dinner. Today seemed okay, first time not twitchy/sulky and basically forgot. Really nice food though, French chicken which I cooked, usually calls for white wine accompaniment. But honestly didn't need. It's a revelation. Roast tomorrow though so a new challenge!

That's interesting - I've just checked mine - I've gone from 85/90 in the summer to 70, just now! That's amazing. I'm actually gobsmacked!

@MyGhastIsFlabbered it was me who had the curry. Vegan korma from the Bosh! Cookbook. I really recommend it if you haven't got it already.

I also recommend the Fevertree tonic waters as a nice non- alco drink. The mandarin one is particularly nice.

OhioOhioOhio · 09/01/2021 22:42

Omg nosecco is £9!!! I don't think I could cope with that.

CandyLeBonBon · 09/01/2021 22:51

@OhioOhioOhio WHAT???? That's outrageous! I hadn't realised it was tjat pricey (ages since I bought it and dp bought my freixnet so completely oblivious!)

3orangekissesfromkazan · 09/01/2021 22:51

I ordered a bottle of Nosecco earlier from Amazon..it should be here tomorrow. Ridiculously expensive for what it is (more than actual Prosecco (ffs!), but want to give it a try.

OhioOhioOhio · 09/01/2021 22:52

I think I'll wait til February and but 2 bottles of sparkling wine for that. How can it be £9?

goldpendant · 09/01/2021 23:01

I paid £4 for it in Co op earlier!

Haybo26 · 09/01/2021 23:10

Nosseco is only £2.75 in Asda!

SantaMonicaPier · 09/01/2021 23:10

Nosecco is currently £3 at Morrisons, I've ordered some to try

Youngatheart00 · 09/01/2021 23:17

Shows what a joke Amazon pricing is at times - definitely not the first time I’ve seen surge pricing for whatever items are popular at the time. The myth Amazon is cheaper is most definitely not always true, we pay a huge price for convenience (or not - our prime deliveries are now taking 2-3 days)

Anyway, getting off topic!

OhioOhioOhio · 09/01/2021 23:19

Oh. £2.75 is a possibility. So is it like schloer in a fancier bottle?

MoonBaby1 · 09/01/2021 23:23

Another one whose heart rate has dropped dramatically in the last 9 AF days.
Reading mine daily at the end of Dec 90bpm to now 75bpm was one of the catalysts for change. I’d noticed being out of breath and having a racing heart, researched it in line with alcohol and didn’t like what I’d discovered.

MoonBaby1 · 09/01/2021 23:24

I had an amazing freebie AF G&T from a company called Savyll but their website seems to have to current stock Sad

thenightsky · 09/01/2021 23:29

I've drunk a bottle of this cava tonight. Bit sweeter than regular cava, but very quaffable.

Backtoblack1 · 09/01/2021 23:29

On day 10 here and have been having sugar cravings so bad. Need to sort diet out next. Thought I’d get sober first x

TSBelliot · 09/01/2021 23:45

I meant to take my heart rate - I thought that was a good idea.

Haggisfish · 09/01/2021 23:57

Nine days here too-never ever have i made it this far before. I felt really good tonight-I actually thought about wanting alcohol free drinks, rather than wanting booze which was refreshing. I’ve danced to music on a Saturday night and often really really wanted to do it sober and tonight I did! I’m feeling really positive.

Taytotots · 10/01/2021 00:57

@mrsnibblesisahero is the seedlip nice? Love a g&t normally. I have some de-alcoholised beer on the go at the moment which is ok but nothing to write home about. Finding it ok - partly because I had a work trip and now isolating (required in our province covid rules) so routine all weird anyway. Feeling pretty good overall. Interesting to hear about heart rates. No effect on my blood pressure yet......

OhioOhioOhio · 10/01/2021 01:18

So. How have our faces changed? I think mine has, a lot, but I'm not exactly sure what has happened?

Els1e · 10/01/2021 07:02

I think my wrinkles look softer so maybe something is happening

Humphriescushion · 10/01/2021 07:12

Day 10 feels good, double figures and is a long time since I have been this long without alcohol. Spoke to family on facetime last who were fairly pissed and trying to get me to get a drink but was not tempted. Well done everyone have a good sober sunday!
