Afternoon all. Frouby, i can so imagine me and dd1 having that chat, except that i wouldn't be calm and exuding authority, but hopping mad and totally lacking credibility. Something to work on with my leadership course buddies! It was better yesterday actually, if a bit pretentious.

Glad you're feeling better nc4. Me too. Bf finally had her interview and got slightly better news about her df, so has eased the pressure a bit. Period just started too. Coincidence?

Have not been AF since Monday, which is bad, but have stuck to 1/3 bottle wed and Thurs, which is good, so inclined to go easy on myself. Different friends were talking about drinks next week though and can either try combining them and riding out any odd dynamics, or accepting nect week will be boozy too. Dsis and family are staying over Thursday too which puts that af night in jeopardy too.

Dionysa · 24/01/2020 19:36

God, what a week. Almost a week has gone by since I had the great pleasure of an evening with lovely Longest. I dived straight back into a vortex of things to do, and haven't even looked on here. I haven't been AF, either. I will try to catch up tomorrow (dealing with DD and a friendship crisis ATM). Hugs all round. xx

longestlurkerever · 24/01/2020 22:27

Ah sorry to hear about friendship crisis Dion, and the vortex. Hope things aren't too stressful.

Moderately good day. Double playdate kept kids out of my hair. Had lunch out with dh. Work did get in the way of swimming but you can't have everything.

Quiet weekend ahead but may attempt an outing to a winter lights show tomorrow.

longestlurkerever · 24/01/2020 22:29

Ps not AF because Friday but stuck to 1/2 bottle.

Waterandlemonjuice · 25/01/2020 10:31

Longest, that all sounds moderate to me.

Dionysa hope dd’s issue gets sorted and next week isn’t as busy.

Day 5 or day 17 (in January) AF here, assuming I don’t drink tonight.

Dd has just said she is staying with a friend tonight so dh and I will have an evening alone together but I won’t drink. I do have a bit of an ‘ooh, we’re free, let’s GO OUT!’ reaction but I need to reset that as it’s stupid and she’s getting to the age where it’ll happen more often. Habit again, I suppose. It does often feel as if there are a lot of people in our house as we’ve had so much work done recently (just counting up and it’s electricians, plumber, window cleaner, cleaner, alarm maintenance man, all in the past month. And that’s not including various of ds’s and dd’s friends, some of my family and friends) but I need to just ignore that I think and treat it as a quiet weekend night.

Frouby · 25/01/2020 11:58

Morning all

Wasn't dry last night. Was very wet in fact. 3 beers and then nearly a full bottle of wine, probably a glass left 🙈. Am feeling it this morning though.

Have new washing machine coming, mine was dying again yesterday so thought fuck it and ordered one. Just been disconnecting old one and pulled it out to go and be recycled. And cleaned the cleaning cupboard under the sink as well. I really need to stop buying cleaning stuff for a while, got all sorts under there.

Waterandlemonjuice · 25/01/2020 15:19

Ok I need to amend that day 4 or day 16 for me, just had 2 glasses of red as dh and I had a fab deli lunch. Dd is out. He is cooking for me tonight so I am going to drink wine then too. Bought some, obviously as we were in M&S, rude not to!

Frouby · 25/01/2020 16:07

Did you get the meal deal water? It's brilliant value especially when the rotisserie chicken is included. We usually get 2, 1 for Saturday night and a chicken for sunday. And if it has a nice veggie option we get 3 🙈. Am going to nip up tomorrow and seenif I can get a chicken for sunday dinner. Top tip, if they don't have what you want on the deal bit, if you find it elsewhere in the store they will honour it (unofficially) at the till.

Not dry here. Kids gone to my cousins for the afternoon to do baking and shit. It's dhs cook tonight so he been shopping for steak and brought back a selection of beers. So getting stuck into the desperados 😂.

And speaking of food, ordered one of those gusto boxes for next week. Got 4 meals for 4 people for just short of £23 which is really good value, especially as we have a fish dish in there and a prawn dish. Have got a clicky linky thing if anyone wants it PMing, I get £15 and you get the same 60% off so can have the same delivery as me. It comes Tuesday so will let you know what it's like.

Nice day here. Did park run and swimming and then headed to canary wharf to the docklands museum (pretty good and mercifully quiet) and a winter lights show. Slightly marred by dd1 panicking over lost teddy (turned out to be safe and sound at home like i was 90% sure it would be but only after we had re-traced our steps quite a long wsy) and a fire alarm going off as we were finishing our Leon tea causing us to have to flee the whole shopping centre thing and take a longer route home, via dd1 falling on escalator and cutting her knee, but overall fun. Home now and drinking wine, but nice not to have to cook.

M and S and gusto sound good. We are a bit limited by what dh can eat but chicken is one.

longestlurkerever · 25/01/2020 21:21

Oh we did baking and shit too. Rather salty cookies.

lilyrayne · 26/01/2020 09:52

Hi can I join please ... probably again at some time ago ? 😭 I've poured away all the last alcohol in the house and will allow a few drinks 1 day a week OR only when I go out once a month ! I have fed it has crept on me and I've been making silly decisions based upon drinking again ! Xx do enough is enough
Day 1 for me xx

Waterandlemonjuice · 26/01/2020 13:18

I didn’t see the meal deal Frouby. We had a lovely lunch of bread, cheese, salad and various cold meats and then last night dh cooked pigeon breasts with a beetroot and spinach salad, which was delicious. We had a real fire, a movie, a cocktail each and loads of Chablis. It was a great romantic night 🙂

Frouby interested to know what you make of Gousto. I tried it briefly but decided it wasn’t for me, mainly because I’m a decent cook and prefer buying ingredients and making stuff myself, I found it a bit simple ikwym. I think you’re a good cook so it’ll be interesting to get your view.

Longest, that sounds like a nice day except for lost teddy and unplanned evacuation.

Lilyrayne, welcome to the thread.

Day 17 for me (or day 1!) in January. Had a lie in, lazed in bed with dh, collected dd and now going to read the papers and generally lounge around. Feel happy!

Frouby · 26/01/2020 14:51

lilyrayne welcome. We have all felt the same at some point but this is a fab thread.

water will let you know. I wouldn't order one regularly as like you say, if you can cook anyway it will always be cheaper to just buy the ingredients but £23 for 4 meals is really cheap so that's the only reason. And I have ordered stuff we wouldn't normally have, wouldn't pick the cottage pie or spag bol. But I thought it would be worth a try for that money. Will let you know what I think at the end of the week.

Have had an absolutely lovely weekend. Got very drunk on friday, Saturday afternon new washer turned up (I love it, so much quieter than the other one and can fit loads more in) then kids when to my cousins for the afternoon and didn't come home til 8.30 pm! Me and dh watched sport, had a mid afternoon shag, got a bit pissed and then dh cooked a lovely steak. Oh and he bought flowers for me too. This morning taken ds to a school birthday party and dd been training. Now all at home, kids watching screens and me and dh dossing on sofa. And because we haven't had take away all weekend dh is picking curry up later so I don't even have to cook!

Going to read for a bit, be AF and then watch call the midwife and Deadwater fell later.

Time2changenow · 26/01/2020 22:52

I need to join you all, either moderating or stopping completely.

I’m interested - how many units were you drinking, and how many do you think you are drinking now?

NC4Now · 27/01/2020 00:15

Lovely (if a tad calorific) weekend here too. Went to see a ska band on Friday night- overdid it on the booze but no major anxiety (although it was probably deserved: I have bruises)
Saturday, took myself to the theatre. Loved it! Kay Mellor’s Band of Gold. I watched it on telly years ago but I do love a solo theatre trip.
I’ve been binging on The Syndicate today, in the Kay Mellor groove. She’s such a great scriptwriter. I’d love to be a successful scriptwriter. I did a bit a uni and it was my favourite style of writing but I’ve no idea how to transfer it to real life. It’s my unfulfilled dream!

longestlurkerever · 27/01/2020 09:10

You should totally give that a try NC4! People pay you to write, why not that? All my neighbours and school mum friends seem to have amazingly creative jobs. I wish i had that kind of talent. I'd love to write a children's book one day - that's my unfulfilled dream!

Frouby your weekend sounds brilliant! And yours water!

I had a grumpy lunch at the farmer's market with my family, because dh was late and putting my promised lido swim in jeopardy, but i managed to squeeze it in and felt much better - feel i am addicted now! Then i took the kids to the park in the pouring rain (don't ask, but it was quite fun) and had my piano lesson. Ended up a nice day, and AF, bonus.

Busy day at work ahead but doing an hours "working from home" first to civilized start.

Waterandlemonjuice · 27/01/2020 14:26

I’d love a creative job too. NC4 go for it. I know someone who is a scriptwriter, they like it. That sounds like a great weekend.

Longest, AF, very good, that sounds like a lovely weekend too, even the wet park, I like the rain and dh and I went for a walk in it yesterday afternoon.

Frouby shagging, sport AND steak, high five! We managed quite a bit of that too 😂

Need2change, welcome to the thread. No judgment here, just nice people. I am perfectly capable of drinking 2 bottles of wine, I just mostly try not to. I had last January AF, November pretty much AF and I had 149 days AF in 2019 but want to do a lot better this year because I still drank too much on the days I did drink. I use the Dry January app to record my progress.

I had a shitty year but that’s no excuse, I’m working on not using wine as a crutch because it really doesn’t help. For me, it was / is a habit so breaking the habit and being moderate is my aim. I have had 18 AF days so far in January and I’m happy that I’ve cut down a lot in the past year, partly because of this thread.

I’ve also used mindfulness, hypnosis (only youtube but a bit of a paid-for Ailsa Frank recording too) and I cut back on some social engagements but I was avoiding people anyway for part of the year because some of them were shitty to me. I don’t drink spirits although I have the odd cocktail. If there isn’t cold nice white wine in the house I find it reasonably easy not to drink. We have lots of other booze hanging about but I’m not at all tempted by it.

My aim is to be mostly AF during the week with wine on Friday and Saturday only. If I do that my units will probably still be 18+ a week (say 9 units a bottle) but it’ll be an improvement. HTH and welcome.

NC4Now · 27/01/2020 15:11

Welcome Need2Change. I have the same goals as Water really although days like today I think I might give it all up completely. I'd like to stop drinking in response to stress, and drinking alone at home.
I polished off two bottles of wine last night and feel utterly ashamed of myself.
I was AF on Saturday and won't drink on school nights now. When I first joined the thread I was probably drinking 5/7 evenings a week. I had an almost Dry November and a Dry fortnight at the start of this year.

Frouby · 27/01/2020 15:56

Welcome needtochange. Hppe you find some support to achieve your goals.

NC write something, it doesn't matter what. I would love to write for a living. I'd like to write novels but it's finding the time. It would seem very self indulgent and I do enough self indulgent stuff without chucking something else into the mix. If I didn't do MBing I so would tho.

Been a busy day. School run, chickens, shopping, some invoicing, some MBing work, spoke to a MBing mate for an hour about another potential way to make money, did some cleaning and tidying, laundry, school run and just having a coffee before I chuck hoover round upstairs. Then having roast gammon and all the trimmings as I didn't do it yesterday. .

Need to try online shopping again I think. I try and go when the dcs are at school, but there are much more productive things I could be doing with that hour/90 mins. Used to use Ocado but it was getting a bit spendy. But Morrisons delivers to our area and I prefer Morrisons to Tesco. Got that box thing coming tomorrow so good for this week but next week I think am going to try it.

OP posts:
NC4Now · 27/01/2020 16:29

The thing is, I spend all my time writing and don't have a lot of free time. I'm trying to do more creative magaziney stuff alongside the straight news stuff I do, which is enjoyable.
Maybe once I drop the web editing I might have a bit more time.
This is totally outing, but I wrote a soap opera for my dissertation. It was so much fun. With another 20 years of life experience behind me I would love to do something similar.

Frouby I always shop online. I think I'm more organised about meal planning and not just throwing it in a trolley. I don't like trolleys either, as they hurt my hips and knees.

I'm a bit worried about DS2. He usually gets home at 3:30 and he's not arrived. He's not answering his phone either. School would have texted if he was in detention or the bus broke down. 🤔

Waterandlemonjuice · 27/01/2020 17:13

Today is day 2 AF this week or day 18 AF in January so I’m pleased with that. I made an onion and cheese tart for supper but probably won’t have any as I tried 2 slices as it came out of the oven, it was gorgeous. So won’t drink tonight and will have a reasonably early night.

NC4, I hope he’s home soon, his phone probably ran out of battery. I don’t know why teenagers are so bad about that but they are. Given how dependent they are on their phones you’d have thought they’d think ahead about charging them. Let us know when he’s back.

I’ve got a bastarding motorway awareness course tomorrow instead of 3 points and I’m wishing I’d taken the points now. I was doing 68 on the motorway and can’t have realised it was a 60 variable limit section. As it was 11pm and I was on the way back from seeing ds on one of the times when he was talking about killing himself and giving up his course I must have missed the sign. I’m dreading it tbh. Also, I stupidly put my too small engagement ring on a week ago and now I can’t get it off as my finger is a bit swollen. So I need to do cold water and oil or something but if that doesn’t work I might ask a jeweller to cut it off tomorrow, I really hate it being so tight on my finger.

Sorry, I am a bit whiny today!

NC4Now · 27/01/2020 17:28

He’s answered his phone! He’s out with friends, which I’m actually really pleased about as he’s usually glued to his console.

Don’t apologise water - I’m a pro whinger. I actually haven’t left the sofa today.

Frouby · 27/01/2020 17:40

water do both. Run it under cold water for a few mins, slap some oil on and slide it off.

Glad he's answered NC. Dd sometimes does that and just as I am debating ging looking for her, she calls back. She's better since I told her if I had to come out for her I would be in PJs and wouldn't give 2 fucks how embarrassing I was in front of her friends 😂😂.

AF so far and dinner all prepped but there are some little bottles of beer in the fridge calling me. Also so AF beers but they aren't calling as loudly, more a little whisper.

OP posts:
Waterandlemonjuice · 27/01/2020 17:53

Oh phew NC4, glad he’s ok

Lol at Frouby and the AF beers whispering

I think I would struggle if I had cold dry white in the fridge but I don’t so my laziness is keeping me AF

Waterandlemonjuice · 27/01/2020 20:26

THANK GOODNESS! My lovely dd put ice and oil on my finger so after putting my hand in iced water and her working on it for 20 minutes the ring came off. I’m very relieved.
