Thread 7 for the tryers.

Join us for tips and support for encouraging a more healthy relationship with alcohol. Whether you want to drink less, or not at all, stay in your units or just cut down this is the thread for friendship, support, tips and ideas.

Absolutely no judgements here, but there will possibly be swearing.

nc it's at north anston, it's absolutely lovely, my favourite place to take the dcs. Took dd a couple of times a year when she was little, and now it's ds's turn. Dion the other little boys mum came along as well with her almost 2 year old lol, am not daft enough to take 2 5 year old boys out for the day solo. Though the other lad is adorable and an angel compared to my ds, he reminds me of dd at the same age.

Back later for a proper catch up, just about to drag the dcs up out of bed for the blacksmith. I feel shocking this morning, full of cold, asthma rumbling and knackered. Have so much to do as well ffs.

Sorry you're poorly, Frouby. It somehow feels worse in summer - you kind of expect to be ill in winter. Already roasting here. DD is driving me mad. She's going away soon, so every single item she possesses is lying around in the sitting room. I can't sit on the sofa because it's covered in clothes. DS has been stomping around and swearing at her. FML. Glad you took the other boy's mum out with you as well!!

longestlurkerever · 25/07/2019 09:34

I quite regularly take a horde of kids out but not for the love - i make sure I get the favours returned! That kind of thing goes on a lot round here as most people don't have family close by. My friend is taking dd1 on her pony day today, the star! She's so excited, and dd2 about paddling pool day at nursery.

I actually do quite like my job Dion. It's perfect for a law nerd like me. I still get a little thrill going to Parliament and the Royal Courts of Justice. I love the people I work with - it feels like home. And it's easy to moan but things have settled ya bit since the last crazy month and I generally get to work very flexibly and make it to anything that's important to the kids. But the political dimension is getting harder and harder to live with- it's the main barrier to me seriously applying for promotion- and I am considering a move into something more closely connected to the judicial branch of Government. I would prefer my own job really though - just would like a change of Government. Just think how amazing it would be if our leaders were genuinely inspirational. I'd settle for a lot less than that right now mind you! Might have to move to Scotland and work for the Scottish Government.

Frouby sorry you feel poorly but glad the butterflies were good. I am in Sheffield at the weekend actually but it's my auntie's party and then she's taking the girls sailing again so dunno if we will have time.

Ugh £40 on nails. Not looking forward to those demands! Glad you had a fun couple of days with DS and no need to feel guilty about looking forward to DD going away, lucky girl. A bit of space does everyone good.

Am off tomorrow with both girls. Not sure what to do with them. Had mooted Hampton court with random posse of pal"s mum, daughters and gf while pal is at work, but if it's this hot I don't fancy the train tbh. Kids are lobbying for lido and playground which sounds more like it if we can get in!

Was not AF yesterday. Will attempt to be tonight. Will be easy if DH is at pub quiz.

longestlurkerever · 25/07/2019 09:45

Oh except I have LGBTQ+ ally training at work. Might be drinks involved....

NC4Now · 25/07/2019 11:32

I really wish we had a lido here. I was trying to persuade my friend to build one in her field of a back garden the other day but she wasn't having it, given she has only just filled in the pond. Spoilsport.

£40 is a ridiculous price for nails although I must confess it's an indulgence of mine. I only pay £30 for acrylic and shellac though.

I hadn't heard of that Butterfly house Frouby. There's one in Lancaster I used to take the boys to when they were younger. It was a lovely day out. My friend has just moved back there actually, now she's had her baby, so I might be able to justify a trip there soon!

Not working today. I made enough yesterday. My plan for the summer is to effectively go part time, but make every story count (pay well). It doesn't work long term as I need to maintain a presence and stay in the loop, but for a few weeks it will - especially during silly season.

Dionysa · 25/07/2019 14:21

NC4, I read your first line as saying "I really wish we had a dildo here". Grin

DS is loafing around. DD is in town with a friend (rather her than me). I am looking at a million things that need doing. Ugh.

NC4Now · 25/07/2019 14:27

Hahaha Dion it's your filthy mind, that. I'm just after an innocent outdoor swim!

I've got one loafing and one in town too. I keep meaning to clean my house, but I can't really be arsed. Needs doing though. I want it nice to bring the new kitten home to tomorrow.

longestlurkerever · 25/07/2019 14:53

Tomorrow, NC4? Exciting!!

Dion I read the description of your sofa and thought "that's what mine is like pretty much every day". Sigh.

Dionysa · 25/07/2019 15:43

Urgh, Longest. It's grim. DD's stuff is absolutely everywhere. And there's no sodding space for it. DS is threatening to incinerate it. This will end well.

I was going to walk to the shops, but I'm not going to now as I will melt.

Exciting about the kittens, NC4. Sorry you're not installing a dildo, though.

Frouby · 25/07/2019 15:52

It's so fucking hot. Soooooo fucking hot.

It's definitely definitely lager weather today. Dh has just come home and dived in the shower, and I am going to sit on the back garden and drink cold desperados until I no longer care how rough I feel (snotty, chesty and a sore throat) or how hot it is.

Have had blacksmith this morning, 3 hours holding awkward, hot, pissed off ponies. Then came home and did some cleaning and laundry. We are having chinese for dinner so I don't have to cook and I don't have to get up early for anything tomorrow. So once dh is up and gone I am going to try to go back to sleep.

OP posts:
Flossie44 · 25/07/2019 17:57

Frouby - sorry you not feeling well. Sounds horrid. Plus asthma on top is so tiring. I empathise on that one. Chinese and desperados sound fab tho!! Enjoy!!

NC4 - installing a dildo sounds a great plan 😂. Oooo kitten tomorrow. Exciting!!

Longest - your career sounds so interesting. I bet it gives you such a buzz. Sounds a logistical challenge though, in terms of childcare.

Dion - I can so relate to the stroppy teens. And then when they become stroppy between themselves, that’s enough to tip you over the edge isn’t it!! Good luck with clothes-gate!!

I’ve spent today packing to go away. And then cleaning and bleaching my house to within an inch of its life...got one of dh’s work colleagues popping in and out while we away, along with my parents possibly staying at some point!! So wanted it spotless!!
Dd crept round dh last night regarding bloody nails!! He gave in and let her have them done!! So she’s now the proud owner of nail extensions, and I’m £40 worse off!! Oh and this obviously means she needs to walk round like a fairy all day not able to touch anything or do anything for herself I’m case one chips or breaks!! Ffs!!
Take away and wine on the cards tonight!!

Dionysa · 25/07/2019 19:15

Flossie, the one time my DD had fake nails done (one of her friends had a nail-doing party), it was an endless excuse to do absolutely nothing (including homework, because she couldn't write). I was glad when they dropped off.

Hope your hol is good - you need it.

Intended to be dry, but a friend invited me round for a quick drink. Ah well. He gives me the male view on DP, so I wasn't going to say no to that.

Sounds like a hard day, Frouby. And everything feels worse when you feel rubbish.

Longest, I now wish I had managed to get a proper job somewhere along the line. It's fantastic that you can combine it with DC and DH's health.

CocoLady · 25/07/2019 20:01

Not dry not even trying depressed Cz I'm
Fat Cz
Of wine so I drink more wine !! How's everyone coping ?!

Wankerbastards and summer sunshine will make us want the bloody wine. But tryers to be dryers won't give up, and ice cold becks blue we will sup.
Flossie44 · 25/07/2019 20:42

Dion - what did your friend say in regards to dp? What was his view?

Dionysa · 25/07/2019 21:19

Flossie, he said he was a shit behaving very badly. He's not wrong, either...

longestlurkerever · 25/07/2019 21:26

Glad you had a nice drink with your friend Dion. Training event thing was hosted by posh law firm and there were drinks and swanky canapes on a roof terrace afterwards. I had to get back to relieve df so necked a glass of rose and gobbled some canapes and ran. Shame. Dh is now out so am in my pjs and will go to bed soon.

Flossie, enjoy your holiday. At least your house will be lovely and tidy to come back to you though I don't envy you doing housework in this heat.

Frouby - I hope you feel better tomorrow. Enjoy your lagers.

MadameForest · 25/07/2019 21:31

Evening all,

Flossie are you going to France in holiday??

Nc4 I hope Frodo settles in well

Longest I'm in awe of how you cope with a demanding job and your family.

Frouby enjoy your despys and Chinese, you deserve some holiday.

Dion I hope your friend gave you some sound advice as to what to do about DP.

Heatwave is over here as of 8pm.
We went out on the boat today with DS, DP, his brother and nephew. Nephew is scared of everything (including water) his father overprotects him terribly so didn't go in the sea, but we did and it was lovely. DS is 12 and lazy at school but I'm so pleased he throws himself into everything else (the photo is of him diving into the water).
I'm really lucky to have a pool, it's for guests but we can use it when they don't. A sort of mini Lido, I certainly wouldn't let guests use my Dildo if I had one

Not dry, half a bottle of chilled red.

Flossie44 · 25/07/2019 21:41

Madame 😂😂

longestlurkerever · 25/07/2019 21:45

Mme, that made me laugh! Lucky you with your pool and being so close to the sea! I do know what you mean - my suggestion of a waterfight at woodcraft folk picnic in 33 degree heat was effectively vetoed and I know it's super-mean of me but I did feel a little bit eye-rolly.

I think it's credit to my employers really that I don't find work and kids that hard to combine. In fact I find part time working the perfect balance as the one is a break from the other really. It gets tricky if one of them is ill or something but generally speaking it manages not to be too stressful with a bit of give and take on both sides. I'm going to log on and finish something now but I didn't feel bad skiving off to watch sports day or rocking up late this morning after dropping dd. I'm going to shift my hours round when dd2 starts school and my boss didn't bat an eyelid really. I spent half the day doing diversity stuff anyway, and having catch ups with my team under a tree in the park. Easier than wrestling kids on Summer holidays!

SenselessUbiquity · 26/07/2019 15:37

Hi everyone. Hope you're all still alive and not dead of heat.
I've been horribly over-drinking - heat, family stress, work stress - it's all added up into total lack of control.

Dion, hope you can find a way forward about your DP.

Longest - I wish my work was more family friendly. It was once but they've become much more difficult.

NC4Now · 26/07/2019 19:03

Over drinking here too. It just seems like the thing to do when it’s so bloody hot!

I’m just off to pick up Toby/Frodo/kitten. Having last minute nerves in case Ozzy doesn’t like him. My friend said I should get Ozzy a present from the new kitten 😂

Waterandlemonjuice · 26/07/2019 19:49

Pmsl at lido/dildo mixup

Nail extensions, hmm, dd asked me to pay for her and a friend, I said NFW so she paid for friend out of her allowance. so I paid really

I drank a bottle of white last night over 3 hours and it was lush and I slept well and I'm pleased because I feel fine and slept well and at least i didn't drink more than a bottle.

Drinking now, obviously

MadameForest · 26/07/2019 20:34

Can't drink when it's hot. Sadly it isn't hot any more here, so wine consumption is easier.
I don't understand how manicures work. My nails never get long enough to be manicured and false nails would break because I'm always doing manual tasks. I suppose teenage girls don't have that problem 😅
Nc4 I hope new kitttn settles in. I need to get rid of mine quickly, they have left the shed and now prefer sleeping in the hanging basket thingys. Which coincidentally are situated nearer to the guests' barbecues 😕

Wankerbastards and summer sunshine will make us want the bloody wine. But tryers to be dryers won't give up, and ice cold becks blue we will sup.
longestlurkerever · 26/07/2019 20:36

I am such a slattern. I "won" a shellac manicure voucher at the school fair and was chuffed to be able to trade or in for 2 X kids' hair cuts.

Good day overall. Had to bark at dd1 a couple of times over terrible behaviour but we had a lazy morning doing jigsaws of all things and playing pet shops (that reminds me - hoping you have your real life kitten now NC4, and that Ozzy isn't sulking too much!) Then this afternoon we went blackberry picking, to the lido, hairdressers and crumble making. Totally shattered now. Collapsed with wine among jigsaw debris while it rains on the washing. Ah well. I have made a vat of lentil soup as well as 2 x dinner so that's enough domesticity for one day.
