Thread 7 for the tryers.

Join us for tips and support for encouraging a more healthy relationship with alcohol. Whether you want to drink less, or not at all, stay in your units or just cut down this is the thread for friendship, support, tips and ideas.

Absolutely no judgements here, but there will possibly be swearing.

Other threads are dotted around but I have yet to master a clicky link.

Dion, it’s definitely him not you and I wouldn’t make any assumptions about sick / alcohol connection. Unless you’re a doctor? No, thought not lovely 😂❤️ Bloody well done at 4 days AF.

Madame, hope the results of the scan are back soon and are helpful. You are still moderating imo

Frouby, brilliant decision on ponies versus school run and housework and happiness factor, good decision making process

Longest, hope work is less stressful soon and child care solution presents itself

Flossie, I’m glad you got a night out 🙂

Frouby I'm not surprised that DD is knackered. Her team did brilliantly to be third out of 20. Your Tagore sounds wonderful send some out to me if you get one of those faces.

Water Great news that MIL is being discharged. What a relief for you and DH.

Flossie sorry about your DDs being poorly. It's always the same with all the back to school bugs. I haven't had as much as a cold since I started running 5 years ago. I think being outdoors helps build up your immunities as well as the physical activity.

Longest you can lose weight Doug weights although it may not be as fast as with cardio sports. A combination f both is ideal. Losing weight is at least 80% based on food intake rather than sport. Even with all the exercise I do I can put on weight due to overeating on things like almonds and chocolate and drinking too much wine. If I didn't do any sport I'd only be able to eat 1200 calories a day without piling on weight, life would be much less enjoyable 😅

Water, that is such good news. You must be so relieved.

Flossie, it really is time your luck changed. Hugs to you and the DDS.

Frouby, I'm not surprised your DD was already in her pjs! She has done fantastically well. I want your lamb tagine if you get The Face from your family.

Thank you, lovely Tryers, for all your kind words about DP being an arse. I need to stop going on about it, as I'm just repeating myself.

Otherwise... AF again. Wooh me. 5 days out of 8. That being the case, I'm not counting this as 'Day One', as that would seem to minimise what I've managed in the past week.

The penny has also dropped. I spent the morning feeling sick yet again, in a 'pregnancy sickness' sort of way - i.e. the hungrier I have been, the more sick I have felt. The only thing that seems to help is eating non stop. But I knew I couldn't be pregnant due to periods (and no other symptoms). Then I remembered that I started a different HRT last Tuesday morning - started feeling rotten that night, and have done ever since. So I think that must be it. I'm going to try to persist, to see if the symptoms wear off when I get used to it. But if it's that rather than alcohol withdrawal symptoms, I'll be bloody grateful. I also wonder if this is the reason I've drunk less - I just feel too crap to drink. Confused

Bloody hell Dion, you had me going there. For a minute I thought you were going to say you were up le duff!!!!

Sorry your DDs are poorly Flossie. Do things lie that affect DD's condition? I imagine it puts you on edge.
DS1 has had tonsillitis this week. He rang me in a state because he'd tried to register at the doctors and couldn't fill the form in, so he stormed out. My heart was breaking for him. Once I'd helped him he went back and was seen half an hour later. We're very lucky at our GPs.
Anyway, hope your DDs pick up soon. DS1 bounced back quickly oncce he started on anti-biotics.

Dion you had me going there too for a moment!!!! 😱😱. Glad you’ve found the cause. Hormonal sickness is a horrid one!!

NC4. Your poor ds. He’s at the age of independence but still wanting his mum. I’m not sure when boys stop needing their mums though to be honest. Bet he felt rough too, bless him. Hope he’s on the mend.
Yes anything from a simple cold can knock my daughters health. So a chest infection has floored her.

So autumnal here today. Might get my soup maker out. Love a soup. Trouble is, I want to eat buttered fresh bread with it!!

Morning all. Was also think you were upduffed Dion. Thank fuck you are just menopausal 😂😂😂.

Lamb tagine was bloody lovely and dh even enjoyed it! Did it in the oven rather than the slow cooker and used a Mary Berry recipe and it wasn't as sweet as some, and really hearty. I used ras el hanout and a tagine paste as well rather than the harissa paste she says and a billionty different spices, and chucked a chilli and a pepper in as well.

It was that nice DD even had some without the lamb in. Told I had sealed the lamb so no juices had escaped and it hadn't dissolved into the sauce like a stew. She loved it. Going to do her a veggie one next time.

Had 2 cans last night, a large glass of wine sunday and 3 glasses on saturday so moderate rather than dry here. But aiming for dry tonight.

Pishing it down here today. Sigh. Will be fun working BabyPony in the rain, but it's going to be the same all week and I don't want to lose the momentum we have.

Also noticed our thread is nearly full again. Any suggestions for a title?

Upduffed 🤣 Now that would give DP something to think about!!!!!

Just going to plod on through the sick feeling, and try to resist the urge to eat carbohydrates every 20 minutes.

Frouby, you are the title queen! Glad the tagine went down well. Sounds absolutely delicious. Think you are right to carry on with Baby Pony in the rain.

NC4 I'm sorry that your DS is ill as well as the Flossie DDs. At least he has a lovely mum to sort him out.

So much to do today that I don't know where to start, so I'm on MN. Grin

I'd just go with the carbs Dion but that's probably why I have issues with my weight. In fact I'd probably be doing in a packet of ginger nuts a day. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Your lamb tagine sounds lush Frouby. I got lamb tagine face at my chickpea and butternut squash stew that I made last night. DS2 said I could make it again, if I just swapped out all the ingredients. When I asked what I should swap them for he said, 'I don't know - haribo and avocado for all I care, just not these ones!'
Cheeky sod!

I dropped my phone down the loo last night. It's quite debilitating. The day has started with me waking in a panic that my alarm hadn't gone off (it seemed fine if a bit juddery when I went to bed) and has proceeded to DS2 missing the school bus, breaking news that needs dealing with NOW (and no means of making the relevant phone calls) and the cat puking on the rug.

I'm not actually sure how I'm going to make it through my working day phoneless. Hopefully it will have dried out by tomorrow but today is going to be a right ballache.

I've been Frouby level moderating the last few days but after overdoing it last week I could do to be AF for a few days at least. This will be a test.

Lol NC4! I need to get her re-registered sharpish then!

Apocalyptic rains here. Whole station is closed so also pissing about on Mumsnet unsure what to do.

Dion i knew it wasn't alcohol withdrawal but sorry hrt is making you feel so rough. Slightly disappointed you are not upduffed.

Managed slightly more moderate evening. Jealous of tagine. I used to do a mean tagine but dh can't eat red meat, onion or dried fruit. I sometimes do a chicken lemon one which is ok but the dc have broken 2 tagine pots in 6 months.

On the plus side a suspicious new fish shop has opened. It's dirt cheap and a bit of a mess but it seems they just get fish from Billingsgate and lug it up here so is fresh. Ace.

Finally on train, hurrah.

It is my birthday next week. Have dropped Soutrageous hints re more festival tickets. Dd1 is on dh's case for me.

Frouby you always do brilliantly for titles so can't help there but the Autumn theme would be appropriate if that helps.
Dion have you been taking HRT for long? Is it helping? I don't really have any symptoms except for sleeping badly and getting annoyed because no one but me cooks, cleans, looks after the dog, cat, hens, guinea pigs as well as doing 2 jobs but I think that's normal for a woman. It's been worse since DD left home to go to uni, I'm out numbered as except for the hens everything else is male and fundamentally lazy or incapable or both.
Got soaked just getting to the car this morning and also got flashed by a speed camera so everthing I earn today teaching will go towards paying the fine.
On the plus side I did manage to be AF last night. I opened a bottle of rosé for DP and as I only like red wasn't tempted.

Evening all

I forgot I had capsize training tonight. Just sat in my bikini with a tshirt and leggings over, waiting to go back out in the rain and get dunked 🙈.

I don't think I will be dry at all tonight. And not just from being dunked in the lake.

Hello all. Meant to be AF last night but was cooking sea bream with pesto butter and it needed wine so I drank...

But I am AF tonight. So including today that’s 10 days AF in September, which isn’t great. Feeling happy though, have been for a walk and slept in late and it’s been relaxing. Finished my job on Friday (which was planned) so I’m happily unemployed now and don’t intend looking for anything for a couple of months. Really looking forward to this break.

I hear you on the male creatures Madame. I've got the two DSs and the two boy cats. I think that's why I like it when Miss Pink Trainers is here. She evens it up a bit.

Water happily unemployed sounds like a lovely place to be. I always said I'd like to be a housewife. I don't know if I'd enjoy the reality of it, but I did like maternity leave. People say they'd get bored not working, but I could think of loads of things to fill my days.

Uti is also back with a vengeance fml so may have to pop off to out of hours. Dh off sick too so we are a pair.

Congratulations on finishing water. Enjoy your break.

Well I wasn't dry, either literally or figuratively. Did my capsize training which was a bit of a shock. We had a paddle around the lake then got halfway back, and we stopped. Had a brief chat about what we were going to do, then were told to tip ourselves out, hang onto our paddle, grab the kayak and swim back 😮😮😮.

All the capsizes I have seen have had the instructors in the water, stood up and they tip you in. Then you stand up and take your kayak out.

But I did it, and didn't drown so that was good. But because the paddle around was an assessment then being able to get to the shore, with your kit is also an assessment it means I am now a signed off member. Whoop whoop. Doesn't mean much, but does mean I can go out of the bouys area without supervision.

So as water rats is now on a Saturday morning I think I am going to do an hour while he is doing that. May as well get fit rather than sit with a coffee and a bacon buttie.

longest sorry about your uti, horrible things. Plenty of water and pure cranberry juice for you. Get thee to the docs with a sample as well, you don't want it tracking up.

Happily unemployed sounds bliss. I could fill every day very easily. Probably twice over. I only work about 15 hours a week as it is but am constantly busy. Even without dcs I can keep busy.

Agree re happily unemployed! Sounds fab, Water.

Love the idea of a flounce that nobody sees, Longest. Reminds me of MN from bygone days (nobody seems to flounce any more). Very sorry about the UTI, though. That is rubbish.

Madame, I'm not sure about the HRT. It is supposed to stop my three-month-long period, so we will see. I feel less sick today, but my nipples are incredibly itchy and feel as if they are in a vice. I would also like to have a shag every 30 seconds. Flipping hormones.

AF, though, so that's 6 days out of 9, with moderation on the other days. This is miraculous for me. Won't be dry tomorrow, though, as I'm going out with a friend.

I am awe of the kayaking, Frouby. I'd have to down a litre of gin to go anywhere near water, never mind in a kayak.

Has your phone dried out, NC4? BTW, I was a 'housewife' (SAHM) for a very long time, and I had no shortage of things to do (including when they were at school - had an allotment which kept me very busy, for starters). It was pretty good, actually. I can't say that working is my idea of fun, but that's divorce for you, and I'd rather work and be divorced than be a SAHM and still married to XH.

That's the trouble with this post-shame world, Dion. No one flounces, no one resigns.

Have antibiotics from scary walk in clinic miles away. Nurse was pretty grumpy at me "you need to see a doctor, you cant just keep chucking antibiotics at it". Well i have tried to see a dr. Twice. Each time there has been a big sign up "we do not have a doctor here today, you'll have to make do with pharmacist/nurse". She was also cross i didn't know the nane of industrial looking blue and yellow pills chemist gave me. Ffs. Anyway,
she eventually gave me orange and grey ones so it's all good, and has kept me AF.

Hope phone is fixed NC4.

Well done on kayak assessment Frouby!

Phone is currently stuck on Siri. Siri keeps earwigging into my general chat and telling me she does not know the answer to things like:
What time are you going to be home DS1?
What's up Toby, are you hungry?
And: Where's the frigging remote?
Siri is, apparently, waterproof.

UTI sounds horrible Longest, as does that nurse. I thought they were supposed to be caring sorts?
There was some pretty spectacular flouncing after the referendum, as I recall. There's a few could do to flounce now.

I love your kayaking updates Frouby. Most impressed you didn't drown. I've been doing the odd length of crawl when I go swimming with the vague notion I may do an outdoor swim at some point. I don't think my genteel breast stroke will cut it in the wild. It's bloody knackering though. Did you have far to swim back after your dunking?

I really should figure out how I'm going to wake up on time in the morning without a working phone. I've just dug out my old clock radio. It won't read my circadian rhythms or analyse my sleep cycles, but it should hopefully do the job.

Night tryers! (Oh, and I'm AF today. First in yonks!)
