Thread 4 for support, tips, tricks and friendship as we reduce our alcohol intake even more. For anyone who wants to reduce, stop, moderate or even just track their drinking.

Absolutely no judgement, just support. Everyone welcome.

Previous threads somewhere but am rubbish at clicky links.

Old tryers and new dryers, welcome to our thread. The one that starts in February and will see us all hit our goals as we move forwards.

Had a run in with one of DS’s ‘friend’s’ mums tonight - accused of bullying etc (he isn’t). So not dry!

Dion - boozy sex you naughty girl 👍

Frouby · 14/02/2019 21:14

Dion lots of my 14 year old flounces are about food. We just had another one. Apparently the seaweed on our hinese was her first portion of fruit/veg since monday.

There is always a full fruit bowl here. There are some slightly shriveled oranges granted. But 3 out of 7. There are also 5 apples, 2 bananas and half a punnet of strawberries half of rasperries in the fridge.

There is also a fridge drawer of salad and veg. Plus yoghurts.

There is is also £20 permanently on her dinner card.

I asked tonight if she wanted veggie freezer food or takeaway. She opted for takeaway, veggie fried rice so that counts surely.

Fml.

Of course, Damn
Good luck and love to all💪🏽

Dionysa · 14/02/2019 21:36

Frouby, hahahahaha. It's all food, innit? My DD won't eat fruit at my house, because I should apparently know she hates it. However, she will eat it by the bucketload at XH's house. Ditto cheese. She says there is Nothing To Eat here, and the full fridge let's ignore the mouldering stuff attests to this. FML.

Leaving, my DC1 was The Worry. Now he is sailing on his merry way, and previously unproblematic DC2 is The Worry. There is Worry, whichever way you look at it. I will have 'She Worried' on my gravestone (which will be sooner than I hoped, if I carry on this ridiculous habit). I am a bit jealous, NC4, though I'm sorry your DC reminded you that you are not 25. I was made to feel my age by DD, who tells me that the olden days (i.e. the 90s) are in fashion at the moment.

Canshop Grin Grin What's more, it was only 2 o'clock. I'm sorry about the run-in, though. I suppose one advantage to teenagers is that you don't have to deal with their parents, on the whole.

Not dry, but have now finished my bottle of gin, so I will be dry for the next month Hmm

NC4Now · 14/02/2019 21:44

I’ve had a revelation on the fruit front. Tinned fruit. My boys can’t get enough of it. Normal oranges and peaches wither in the fruit bowl but tins of peaches and mandarins fly off the shelves. It’s ridiculous.

I am annoyed at my sexless existence. And at ex H for waving that flag of hope at Xmas then disappearing back off.

I wish I was 25 again.

NC4Now · 14/02/2019 21:45

Also the wrong side of a bottle of red and ALL the carbs. My fuck it button is well and truly pressed.

Rosiewoo · 14/02/2019 21:47

Guess what I've done! Drunken bum, wine. Fuck me.

Dionysa · 14/02/2019 21:57

Oh NC4. The fucking fuck-it button. I am wishing I had another bottle of gin, but relieved that I don't, as I have my 5.30 alarm in mind. I'm glad I'm not 25 again, though. XH and I had been together 3 years already by then. FML a thousand times over.

Rosie, we are all in this together.

Canshopwillshop · 14/02/2019 22:14

Oh Dion you will be v v glad tomorrow that you don’t have more gin. No one ever regretted not having one more drink.

Rosie - me toooo.

Dionysa · 14/02/2019 22:32

Canshop, yes, I will. Grumpy now, though. Grin

NC4Now · 14/02/2019 22:34

I’m in bed, so I don’t go for another bottle of wine. It’s not necessary or wise.

I’d been with ex ex a few years by 25 too. Actually I had DS1 that year and felt older then than I do now. I think I may have finally adjusted to being a mum and being myself simultaneously.

Frouby · 15/02/2019 07:31

I was thin at 25. About a size 10/12. Old fashioned sized 10 though. Still thought I was fat Grin. At 25 I was single, had a career and a life and everything. Hadn't had dcs and was so fucking stressed. what was I stressed about ffs.

Got DH off work today. Jesus fuck it's worse than having the dcs off. He wants to go and buy some fruit trees and plant them at the allotment. Which is fine. But he will want me to go with him, then forget he isn't at work and I am not his labourer. He won't listen when I tell him where I want them and how they should be planted.

I might bury the fucker up there.

Will be moderating tonight. Course tomorrow. Yay. A day off parenting and wifing and a road trip with my cousin. I have no fucking clue what this course is about though. I am planning on sitting at the back, looking knowledgeable and taking lots of notes and asking cousin afterwards Grin.

Do you wear glasses Frouby? If not, get some fake ones - always good for making you look serious and knowledgeable. Nod your head lots too and mumble ‘mmm’ and ‘interesting’ - enjoy.

leavingAqaba · 15/02/2019 08:13

frouby take some reading glasses to the course even if you don’t need them.

leavingAqaba · 15/02/2019 08:13

Look at that for a x-post!

Canshopwillshop · 15/02/2019 08:19

😅 leaving - great minds etc ...

I put my specs on when I want to be taken seriously.
I don’t have to start work till 10.30 today and kids have finished school/college so I’m treating myself to a lie in. I need it!

nikita190 · 15/02/2019 09:47

Hey all can u join please ? You all sound really supportive SmileI'm a mum in my 30s with a partner job n good family but as I say I drink 4/5 nights a week I look older n it's ruining my skin 🥴 I have made a pledge to loose 2 stone and I do v well with the food intake but around 6-630 the wine witch comes out n takes a hold of me 🙈 I only have about 2/3 glasses n sometimes just a vodka n coke but I feel like crap next day poor sleep diets ruined again as I want to eat crap. I think it's a habit I got into to de-stress or im bored ! Either way can anyone please give me some tips on how to just stick to weekend drinking ? Thanks good luck to you all 🙌🏼🙌🏼

longestlurkerever · 15/02/2019 09:47

Morning all! Managed to stop after sharing a bottle of champagne with DH, woo me. Day off work today so going for a quick swim then taking dd1 out if school for a spot of political activism. Assuming we don't get arrested am spending the evening with dsis.

Enjoy your course Frouby! I have a work course in a couple of weeks with RADA of all people. Had feedback from a couple of jobs I applied for and they basically said I have no chance at the moment as "while I am clearly an intellectual " (cheek!) I mumble and don't really have any authority. Is probably fair comment as am bricking it about the course.

PurpleDinosaur · 15/02/2019 10:41

Hello hello! Big hi to all new folk. I'll have a proper read later but wanted to say hi and hope everyone is doing ok this week.

I've had a manic one, spent ages on that job application and have an interview a week Monday. Shiiiiiit!

but somehow, miraculously I have now been AF for 12 days. I'm still finding I'm thinking about booze a lot of the day though, and the 5/6pm bit is tough but it's been so good to know I can do it.

I've been reading Laura McKowen's blog/insta page which has helped, she talks about getting sober/being a mum. I've started listening to her previous podcast 'Home' too although I do find her accent quite irritating 😬. Does anyone know of any British equivalents?

Rosiewoo · 15/02/2019 10:54

Welcome Nikita. It's brought me comfort to know I'm not alone in my dreadful drinking habits. And it is just that, a habit. I don't need it, I just want it. I lol at the wine witch statement, so true.

Yet again last night I had wine then onto spirits once the wine was finished. I mean theres just no need!

PurpleDinosaur · 15/02/2019 16:35

Argh. Just waved off the two extra kids I was looking after today and their dad bought me wine to say thank you. So now I'm stood here in the kitchen desperately wanting to open it. I've only managed these AF days by having nothing in the house. Send will power please!!!! I especially want to just not start now as then it'll just be a whole evening drinking ☹️

PurpleDinosaur · 15/02/2019 19:51

I've caved. I've also been out to buy a 2nd bottle as DH fancied wine too so now I'll definitely drink a whole bottle. Bah.

Rosiewoo · 15/02/2019 20:07

Don't give yourself a hard time, it is Friday night after all.
