New thread for the New Year.

Support thread for those who want to moderate and reduce alcohol. Absolutely no judgement, just advice and support. Absolutely everyone is welcome whatever your goals or hopes for 2019.

Am no good at clicky linke but there are previous threads and we look forward to continuing to moderate and reduce in 2019.

Especially today. 14 coming for 3 courses at 3pm and I have a raging hangover to start the year. Fml.

Thanks though longest

longestlurkerever · 07/01/2019 15:32

And that's what he expected? Xx

Flossie44 · 07/01/2019 16:27

Sending you a big hug NC4

Dionysa · 07/01/2019 18:35

Huge hugs, NC4. I can't say anything to make it better, but I am thinking of you.

Have bought wine for DS as he is off tomorrow, so I will no doubt join him in a glass or four

Canshopwillshop · 07/01/2019 18:44

Sounds hard NC4 Flowers

I have downloaded the ‘Drink free days’ App. I had to input a typical weeks drinking and it came to 59 units Blush. I have ‘pledged’ not to drink Mon, Tues or Weds this week so will see how it goes. Just cracked open a Becks Blue.

Frouby · 07/01/2019 18:52

Hugs NC4. Be kind to yourself tonight, whatever it takes.

I would give my left nipple (and my left is my good one, my rights a bit more droopy) for a glass of wine Dion. Or a gin. Or even a lager. Sigh, sigh, fucking sigh.

Day 2 almost in the bag though. Dh is back at work tomorrow thank fuck. Kids knackered after school and ds swim lesson so both very quiet and in their rooms watching TV. Me and DH just about to eat and will be having an early night. Really fancy something juicy on my kindle but can't find anything. I like crime/detective dramas (but nothing really gory), good chiclit, nothing fluffy but don't like really highbrow wordy bollocks that takes 14 pages to describe a cloudy sky sort of stuff.

Do you like Raymond chandler? He's my favourite

waterandlemonjuice · 07/01/2019 19:43

💐💐NC4 but on the bright side you left some lager!

frouby, St Jilly of Cooper is my go-to cheering, funny reading. Well fine on day 2

canshop I’ve got the dry January app and I like it.

anglaise - but you ARE still moderating for sure!

Dionysa, at least it’s planned drinking!

I have had soup tonight and reckon it’s the ideal supper for not drinking as it’s not the sort of thing I’d normally have wine with. Took to my bed a la Joan Collins at 6.30 and I’m still here, watching trash telly, no urge to drink at all.

longestlurkerever · 07/01/2019 19:52

I have some posh looking AF beers in.

Canshopwillshop · 07/01/2019 19:52

Frouby - Have you read any of Marian Keyes books?

Frouby · 07/01/2019 19:55

Have read all jilly coopers and all marian keyes, forgot to mention I am a bit of a bookworm. That is the problem, I read someone new that I enjoy, read everything they have ever written, pre-order any new books they might have out then sulk because I have nothing else to read.

Haven't read Raymond Chandler tho, off to have a nosey.

Fuck!!!! Day fucking one!! Had two gin and tonics!! Figured better on SW. However now for half bottle of White in fridge so gonna have that too!!!!! Fml over and ober

Dionysa · 07/01/2019 20:23

Oh, FML too. Though Water has at least made me feel a bit better because this pissedness was planned Confused.

I do like going to bed with a good Victorian novel, when I'm AF. The annoying thing tonight is that I had some work to do, with a deadline of tomorrow. It has not been done, needless to say. FML again.

Ah well. My excuse is that the holidays end tomorrow.

Flossie44 · 07/01/2019 21:06

Anyone worry about alcohol in bloodstream tomorrow morn?? Fuck sake!!

Littleelffriend · 07/01/2019 21:12

Day one three quarters of a bottle of red

Anglaise1 · 07/01/2019 21:16

Hugs NC4 hope you are OK
dion enjoy thé last night with DS at least you aren't drinking alone!
Flossie not sure whether to
Thanks or 😅
Frouby day 2 yay cant help on books used to love reading but don't have time now, or U do but sport has taken over as priority
water it isn't moderating for me and I feel crap
Ever since going back to nightly drinking I look shit, feel awful, heart rate up, stress up, bad luck is following me around broke an expensive TV, injured by soda stream falling on my head (birthday present from DC they wanted one I didn't), new vacuum cleaner broke after 4 weeks, lots of things many of which are due to tiredness and irrationality of the effect of alcohol.
Looking forward to waking up at 6 tomorrow feeling slightly less pants than usual.

NC4Now · 07/01/2019 21:23

I’ve had a glass of wine to take the edge off and am now in bed with the cat. My little buddy, always by my side 😍
I’m a bookworm too Frouby though less when I drink in the evenings.
Tomorrow I’m going to start again in earnest.
I totally relate to what you’re saying Anglaise. I look and feel shit at the moment.
Going back to WW next week, and taking my mum, so hopefully that will force some discipline and self control.

Flossie44 · 07/01/2019 21:40

Anglais....was it a gradual demise or a sudden one? You really are the strongest one here with the biggest heart. Of all of us, you can do this!!

Dionysa · 07/01/2019 21:52

Quick answer, Flossie: yes.

DD back to school tomorrow. Which is why I should be very sober now. FML.

GhostSauce · 07/01/2019 21:56

@Frouby I'm ploughing through all of Poirot at the mo, they're all about £2 on kindle, 12 down! Not exactly high literature but so much fun and so great to pass the sober evenings. Though I'm starting to talk about ze little grey cells, method and order etc...

It's keeping me occupied! He does tend to like the port and a cocktail hour though.

@Anglaise1 how did you get injured by a soda stream??? 😩

longestlurkerever · 07/01/2019 22:20

Well a little milestone for me in that u have managed two AF nights while my mum has been here which I haven't done since pregnant I don't think. Tried an AF ghost ship beer. Was nice. Still not sure if i am wholly committed to dry rest-of-january but am on track for moderating at least.

Frogletmamma · 07/01/2019 23:41

Just had a large whisky to try to get to sleep. This is not.good.

waterandlemonjuice · 08/01/2019 06:17

If I don’t drink today, which I won’t*, today is day 7 AF.

I know it makes me like a small child with a star chart but I really like ticking off the days in my dry January app!

*no alcohol in the house plus I’m working, so intend taking to my bed at 6pm as usual!

NC4Now · 08/01/2019 07:50

Day 7 is amazing water. A full week would be brilliant.
Day 1 again for me today. I just wish I could crack the insomnia. My brain just whirs as soon as I get into bed.
