New thread for the New Year.

Support thread for those who want to moderate and reduce alcohol. Absolutely no judgement, just advice and support. Absolutely everyone is welcome whatever your goals or hopes for 2019.

Am no good at clicky linke but there are previous threads and we look forward to continuing to moderate and reduce in 2019.

Especially today. 14 coming for 3 courses at 3pm and I have a raging hangover to start the year. Fml.

I didn’t drink last night. Wanted to but didn’t.

and dh STILL hasn’t removed all the wine to the garage despite my asking him to Angry - he just doesn’t get it, he could easily never drink again, he just isn’t bothered Envy

So today is day 5 assuming I don’t drink tonight, which I won’t. Have the dry January app and have also joined their Facebook group, which is good

Threadastaire · 06/01/2019 13:15

Congrats on the day 5, I'm around the same - last drinks were on NYE. BF is helpfully finishing all the xmas booze so I've watched him drink most days, he got drunk last night but is chipper and hangover free, i went to the gym yesterday and have a stonking cold, not impressed!

@paranoidordoomed how are you getting on? Did you speak to your GP?

@Frouby I don't have anything to add but your posts really make me giggle!

longestlurkerever · 06/01/2019 20:12

DH is trying to get me to join him in dry rest-of-january. Tbh the prospect fills me with gloom but he's guilting me.

longestlurkerever · 06/01/2019 20:26

Am back from holiday. Exhausted from driving all the way. Waiting for my mum to arrive and work to start tomorrow. In a bit of a funk again tbh. Getting the Mirena coil removed on Thursday. Will see if it makes a difference.

Dionysa · 06/01/2019 20:31

@NC4Now, how are you feeling now? I sympathise so, so much. I have been there myself, far too many times. Flowers We are all here.

Water, God knows. He is a difficult bugger.

I'm impressed by those on Day 5. I am on Day 1 yet again. Last night was soaking wet, and I've felt crap all day. Still wanted a drink at 6 PM, though. However, I didn't have one, and am wondering if it is too early to go to bed.

longestlurkerever · 06/01/2019 20:43

Just reading back through the posts I missed. I think I missed a curry, some shit DPs, headfuckery XHs and end of holiday cabin fevered kids. Hugs and fennel tea all round. Still keep coming back to the curry though. Xx

Frouby · 06/01/2019 21:15

longest I have a chicken madras for 2 and a mild quorn one left in my freezer 😁. Tis lush and for fridays dinner. But if you are desperate I could be convinced to take it out early.......

Anyway. Miraculously dry here. Fuck knows how I am not half a bottle of gin down tho. Ds been a 1 man wrecking crew again. That boy will be the death of me I swear.

Have spent all day cleaning this bastarding cesspit of a house. Including an hour deep cleaning the bathroom. It's been dds job for the last few weeks and she isn't known for effort.

Anyway. Fed ds, sent him up to dh to the bath. Sat down with a cuppa, all quiet. Dd came down half an hour later looking twitchy. 'Dad says not to tell you but I think you need to know, he (ds) has made a bit of a mess in the bathroom and somebody is going to need to replace my soap and glory sugarscrub stuff.......'

Fml. Does anyone have blonde hair? Use that bright purple shampoo that gets rid of brassy bits? Yeah. Me too. Its spendy at £15 a bottle but I justify it because it lasts me months cos I use it once a fucking week. Anyway. It makes a small boys bath a lovely lilac colour. The sugarscrub stuff smells really nice and the body scrub is lovely and exfoliating. Especially on the newly stained purple grout and tiles that I not 2 hours ago scrubbed with fecking cillit bastard bang.

Little shit knows not to fuck with stuff on the bath side. Dh knows he has to keep checking hes not fucking with stuff, not lay on our bed watching fucking digging for gold or whatever shit it was he was watching, calling out 'you ok son?' to check he's not drowning or something.

Fml. Fml. Fml. Really wanted gin. Had a big slice of Christmas cake and googled boarding schools instead.

Thanks Dion. I’m feeling a bit better. We went to my mums for Sunday lunch, which was really nice. Took my mind off things a bit.
Just watching Dr Who in bed with DS2 now. He’ll go to his bed soon and I think I’ll get my head down too.
I feel really anxious - meeting XH tomorrow. I know he means well but it’s a massive U turn and it’s stressing me out.

Well done to the day 5ers!! I’m in awe. Although today I could gladly never drink again.

NC4Now · 06/01/2019 21:34

Bloody hell Frouby. My oldest was like that. He’d go quiet then I’d find him ‘making potions’ with my best moisturiser 😫

He tried to convince me we’d been burgled and they’d stolen all the Baby Bels from the fridge. No interest in any other items.

He’s nearly 17 now. Marginally better but even today looks totally innocent when my bar of white chocolate miraculously vanished. I know it was him.

Zofloramummy · 06/01/2019 21:50

Oh god frouby did your DH think you wouldn’t notice purple grouting?
I remember having friends over for dinner when DD was about 2. She was playing in the living room and I’d cleared the plates and was talking in the kitchen. I thought she had been a bit quiet so popped to see what she was up to.
She had removed her bottoms and plastered herself, her doll and a fair bit of my sofa in a full tub of sudocrem!!!
Then there was the time she found my nail polish and hid behind the bed painting herself (and the carpet) pretty colours.

Kids should come with a warning label - maybe hazardous to your sanity, finances and cause premature ageing!!

waterandlemonjuice · 06/01/2019 21:50

Frouby, I use that £15 purple shampoo for blondes too and I’m omg at your ds using it in the bath, oh no! Can you kill dh? :helpful:

Day 5 AF is over, managed the first weekend in ages AF so that’s good.

Flossie44 · 06/01/2019 21:52

Yup..I’m in your gang too!!
Dd used my bottle of new coco Chanel perfume to make her new ‘witches potion’. What the fuck!! Over hundred quid on frigging witches potion!! Shock

Dionysa · 06/01/2019 22:06

Oh, Frouby. You tell it so well (especially the bit about your DH watching Digging for Gold). If any use, Savers do the purple shampoo for less than anywhere else, so your DS could always use that to redecorate.

Children are a liability. My DD took it upon herself to try a bottle of wine. She decided she didn't like it, so poured it out into the undergrowth and chucked the empty bottle into a bramble bush. It was the one decent bottle I possessed (a present). I was saving it for a special occasion, as it cost £60. I was not pleased.

NC4, I'm glad going to your Mum's helped. I will be thinking of you tomorrow. I also know the 'never want to drink again' feeling. However, it only ever seems to last a day Confused.

I have staggered through the evening, feeling tired and generally crap. But AF, at least.

The DC are back to school Tuesday and Wednesday. FML.

Flossie44 · 06/01/2019 22:45

Dion. That’s ace you’ve been af. Well done lovely.
I’ve had a large gin and three quarters of bottle of Pinot. Really need to be af tomorrow. Am really worrying about my health tonight. I used to be so soooo healthy. These days I’m rubbish!! I reeeeeeally want to nail tomorrow!!

Anglais - you ok lovely?? Not heard from you for a while?? X

ParanoidorDoomed · 07/01/2019 08:39

@Threadastaire I'm ok Thank you. Yes i rang my gp I have an appointment next week.
I had the last of the festive parties on Saturday so I didn't manage to stay AF, didn't drink as much as I usually would at a party though so I'm pleased with that.
I didn't have a drink yesterday even though it was my birthday! I'm stocked up on vitamin b and bottled water so fingers crossed I can do this Smile

Flossie44 · 07/01/2019 09:09

Paranoid - wow to be dry on your birthday is an accomplishment for sure!!

Day 1 today. Haven’t said that for months. Weighed myself this morn and gutted. So have been shopping for SW foods and I’m going to have to do this shit myself without going to group..at least til I can get there anyway!! I really can’t do this to my body anymore. I’ve become like I hate myself, a kind of self harm!! I’ve got to stop ✋🏼

waterandlemonjuice · 07/01/2019 10:07

Hi flossie, I’m fairly sure many of us that feeling of self harm 💐

Today is another day! Dionysa, well done on AF.

Today is day 7 for me if I don’t drink, which I won’t. Dh has moved all the cold dry white wine to the garage so that’s good.

Anglaise1 · 07/01/2019 10:26

Hi everyone,
Frouby I love your posts.
Well done Dion on AF last night, I think Mondays is usually AF for you too, so hopefully 2 days??
Flossie good luck on Day 1 and thanks for asking, have had a very indulgent Christmas period overall and very glad to get back to teaching and AF in the week. Must have downed at least 4 bottles of wine a week and look and feel awful. I don't think I've put on any weight as I've kept running with a little cycling and swimming, but want to lose a few pounds to get back to under 9 stone which I know isn't over weight for 5'8 but I prefer being lighter to run faster.
NC4 good luck for today with ex OH
Water congrats on day 7 - I'm looking forward to getting to 4 continuous days AF this week. Have really fallen off the wagon compared to how I was before.

Canshopwillshop · 07/01/2019 10:53

Can I join you please? I’ve been looking at the various Dry January threads but having read through this thread, I think I’ve found my people 😊

I really need to cut down my drinking but I just can’t face the idea of a full Dry January - it’s bloody depressing enough this time of year! I am planning on ‘dry in the week January’ which will be a start. Today is day 1 and I’m full of cold so hoping that will help me stay away from the wine (didn’t work last night though - still managed to down a bottle!).

Has anyone else tried the ‘Dry Days’ App? Thinking of using that to help me.

Frouby · 07/01/2019 12:31

Welcome Canshop, I tried dry jan last year and managed 3 weeks before I broke. Dryer is definetly the future!

Day 2 for me here, optimistic so far. Dh isn't back to work until Wednesday so he probably won't be drinking tonight or tomorrow which makes it easier.

Was bloody hard work getting up this morning for school, jesus. 7am felt like the middle of the night. Ds was very reluctant to get up, I took great pleasure in waking him up. Which is evil but I consider it payback for all the times he has woken me at stupid oclock.

Am back working now too. Hmmmpppphhhh. I prefered staying in my PJs til 11am, then having a leisurely bath and putting clean PJs on to doss around some more.

Canshopwillshop · 07/01/2019 13:15

Thanks Frouby. I agree it was bloody hard getting up this morning in the dark after 2 weeks of very long lie-ins. I feel rubbish with a horrible cold too and was anticipating a day on the sofa watching crappy daytime tv, except my 12 year old DS has joined me in having my cold and also threw up first thing so he’s off school and being v demanding and instead of daytime tv I have to watch endless episodes of Top Gear Angry. Poor DD was the only one who had to get properly up and out so she was very fed up!

ParanoidorDoomed · 07/01/2019 13:29

Mine don't go back to school until tomorrow, I'm not looking forward to it!
Was planning on getting up early this morning and waking them all up but decided to snooze my alarm until 8am and then only got up because the cat was tormenting me for breakfast lol.
The kids all looked so peaceful in their beds so I left them until 10 before I woke them all.

NC4Now · 07/01/2019 14:49

Well that went... not very well. On the plus side, I left half a pint of lager on the table when I walked out. I don’t think I’ve ever not finished my pint before.
At home now, having a cup of tea and a good old cry.

longestlurkerever · 07/01/2019 15:06

Oh NC4. Hugs. He sounds horrible. Do you want to talk about it any more? X

NC4Now · 07/01/2019 15:22

He’s not horrible, just completely oblivious. I don’t really want to go into it a lot. I just got upset. I can’t just pretend the last year and more haven’t happened.
