The days that I try not to do it im left feeling very lost and depressed.

It is making me fat, lethargic and rubbish

Tips please of how to get this dreadful habit in check - Id like to still enjoy wine but at a less destructive/more sociable level

I don't drink anything other than wine really- if I have a lager or something I don't feel compelled to drink more but one glass of wine and before I know it ive finished the bottle

Help!

Can I join you all? I was about to post with a similar thread title so it's good to see that others are in a similar boat and working through it. I have been drinking far too much for far too long and hate myself for it. Something needs to change so I'm going to try and break bad habits.

I said I wouldn't drink today and then started early so I'm now in bed too to make sure I don't have anymore. I feel rubbish the next day which is no good with little ones to look after. Sure I will drink nye too big then hoping to stop. I did Go Sober for October and felt great so know I can do it, just bad habits!

You've all been doing so brilliantly over Christmas well done. I've started every day over the Christmas period with the 'I'm not going to drink til Christmas/New Years Eve thing' then ruined every day. (Except one day where the night before I'd had people round and got so drunk I had to go up to bed to pass out at 10pm leaving them all downstairs).

This thread has inspired me so much, as has caramel's blog - especially the bit about paying lots of money for a pill to stop drinking when in actual fact it should be so easy and save me money!

just wanted to say that it does get easier. I went to AA in the beginning and the one day at a time mantra saved me on many occasions. just concentrate on putting your head on the pillow sober each night.

physical cravings will go. full fat Coke stopped cravings in their tracks the first couple of months. ice cream also magical.

the first few months were hard. I'm a bit antsy at the moment because Xmas, but I don't drink any more so I'm riding it out.

you are all awesome. keep on keeping on.

Can I join in here too, mortified by how much I drank last night and am blatantly letting the kids stare at the tv as I'm too ill to move. I don't ever want a drink again. I go through this ever few months but want this to be the last time.

Do pop over to the Dry thread in Relationships :) There are lots of us over there! Flowers

DH and kids are out and I'm fighting the urge to have an early glass of wine. I know that if I do that's it for the night though and it will be another wasted evening (in every sense!). They'll be back soon so I'm on here as a distraction and telling myself I could do with popping to Tesco later so mustn't drink. How exciting. Also trying to focus on how nice it will be to wake up feeling fresh and not being snappy with everyone. Wishing you all a sober evening.

Wolfiefan · 30/12/2015 16:48

Wishing you all a lovely sober evening too. I am looking forward to a huge mug of tea in my special mug later!

Thanks, it really is nice to know I'm not alone. I am itching for a glass of wine now but just got kids to bed early and I am going to Tesco to keep busy, sad I know but if I can get past the 7pm 'need' to relax it will be easier! I might buy some nice herbal tea, although they normally sound nicer than they taste.

exWifebeginsat40 · 30/12/2015 20:11

valerian tea. smells grim, tastes ok and knocked me flat when sleep eluded me!

redmimi · 30/12/2015 21:42

I've headed to bed already to avoid temptation. Bought some Pukka 'womankind' tea - cranberry, rose and vanilla. Quite nice actually. We're out for the day tomorrow with kids and friends and I feel positive that I can enjoy it with a clear head. Thanks all.

Morning all, feeling really positive here after a good night sleep. Undecided whether I will have a drink later as New Year's Eve but going to take one day at a time. Have a good day.

I hate herbal tea- I don't mind them for the smell, like a smelly decoration:) I drink water, green tea or coffee with cream.

Vitamin B helps- I think it's B4 but I can't remember- helps your body replenish itself. I went to a kineisogist once and she said my body was lacking in vitamin b, what she didn't tell me was when I took the horse sized tablets - I wouldn't want alcohol. I sat with a glass of wine and didn't touch it. It was really weird. I called her the next day and told her, and she laughed and said it was a common effect of that vitamin b number.

caramel, you could take a selfie now and one every day? I saw a blog once of a woman who stopped drinking and she posted all her pics. She looked so different by the end!

Feeling a bit delicate this morning, had quite a bit last night, but I remember everything, conversations, what time I went to bed, going to bed! And I guess that's who I want to be, someone who has a few drinks on nye same as everyone else and doesn't over do it.

Feeling really positive now though and determined to have a drink free couple of months. Really want to for my health, weight, pocket and looks Blush
