The days that I try not to do it im left feeling very lost and depressed.

It is making me fat, lethargic and rubbish

Tips please of how to get this dreadful habit in check - Id like to still enjoy wine but at a less destructive/more sociable level

I don't drink anything other than wine really- if I have a lager or something I don't feel compelled to drink more but one glass of wine and before I know it ive finished the bottle

Help!

I'm going for it too! I don't drink every night but will have a bottle of wine 4 nights a week. Feel like crap after last night and I am NOT feeling like this ever again!

It's good to hear that everyone is feeling positive. After our day out yesterday we had an early dinner with kids at a friends house and I did have a couple of glasses of wine but enjoyed them and stopped at about 9pm so felt good today. It was nice to feel sociable as I'm ashamed to say I mainly drink alone and quite secretly. I drink at home in the kitchen and have a couple of bottles of wine open so it's not obvious a bottle has been finished, make sure I sort the recycling, sneak a vodka when DH is upstairs. Pathetic really. Anyway, here's to new habits and a happy new year for us all.

Well done Caramel. I'm here and sober too, even been out for a meal, had a bath and a mahoosive pile of ironing without a drink (punches air).

I've downloaded the drink aware app and love love love tapping 'no drink day' Grin

redmimi · 03/01/2016 19:23

I've had a couple of drinks I'm afraid and am on dodgy ground now as really want more as kids bedtime approaches, however, it's back to school tomorrow and I know it will just make the morning chaos harder. I've got it in my head that I give everything up tomorrow so just want to eat and drink.

Going to look the app up as sounds motivating.

Thanks, this really is helping. Still annoyed with myself as had more than I should but have taken myself off to bed with a pukka tea and new calendar to fill in to keep busy so there's hope for a decent morning tomorrow. I've also spoken to DH again. I broached the issue a few months ago but he was so horrified when I said how many bottles of wine I got through a week that I pretended I was exaggerating. His Mum has a drink problem and I can't believe I'm at risk of going the same way. Determined to stop making myself feel crappy, as really that is all the drinking achieves.

You are doing really well X

redmimi · 04/01/2016 20:16

Well done Caramel. I'm not drinking today.

Back to school routine will help I think, nice to get a bit of normality back despite the rushing around.

It is DH 40th this week and we're having a party at the weekend so not sure how that will go.

Good luck with your SMART session tomorrow! Hope everyone else is doing well too.

I don't think it's necessarily the amount you drink it's the fact that you need to drink everyday . You are doing really well and it will be worth it in the long run although you are bound to have some shit days .

magicsoakingmyspine · 05/01/2016 20:00

How are you doing Caramel? hope your afternoon got better and you are still near to being one week sober. Just think of the morning and how pleased you'll be if you don't have one.

Do you think that your husband thinks if he admits that you have a drink problem he will have to face the possibility that he has one as well ?

Well I suppose he will just have to learn that it's equally as fun having a sober wife , good luck going forward .

Interesting thread. I've definitely gotten into the habit of drinking too much over the past...10 years :(...started with just a couple of beers but over the last few years it's been a bottle or more a night. Mostly spurred on by depression I think.

I made a real go of cutting down starting September of last year, as I don't think I'm an alcoholic, as it doesn't effect my life negatively (other then feeling kind of crappy in the morning), and if I can't have it I'm not bothered, more like, if it's around, well I'll have some and then never know when to say enough.

Anyway, it's been rocky, but now I've got myself down to a bottle and a bit on Thursday and Friday nights. Would still like to cut down more though.
