Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

@Itsjustmethatsallunfortunately I used to meet Saville regularly as I was a nurse in Leeds. My friend told him to shut up one night as he was talking over her. He was sat in the nurses residence office at 11 pm! Make of that what you will. We were not well protected by the senior staff at that hospital!

Eewww, I wish they had a horrified reaction on here. That must have been awful, and to know you didn't have any support either

At the same time? Wow! We were next door to Tessa Jowell. That was another near miss as when her husband was in the news decades later we kept seeing glimpses of our old home in the background as the journalists tried to doorstep her. The area has gone up in the world since we left (coincidentally or otherwise).

Yes, I remember Tessa Jowell as well. I lived there 1986-91. Very near the tube. I used to see Simon Williams and Simon Ward there as well.

I once walked into a pub in Barnes, I think it was called the Rose of Denmark, to meet a friend. It was very near the Rosslyn Park rugby club ground and always crowded. I immediately saw someone I knew, so I greeted him with a cheery "Hello, lovely to see you ... how are you?" and a kiss on the cheek. He was very nice and friendly.

I then spotted my friend and moved on, and he said "I didn't know you knew Bill Beaumont".

You went as a threesome?

Ah, we moved out just before you arrived. I remember seeing Liz Smith (Nana from The Royle Family) on the platform at the tube.

Years ago I served lunch to Kevin McCloud when he was filming nearby for Grand Designs. I specifically asked to work the shift as I loved him and the show.
He is one of the rudest people I have ever met. Deeply unpleasant and arrogant. Really astounding how instantly the charm and affability was dropped the second the camera stopped rolling.

No! That's very disappointing.

Nick Cave - in the Natural History museum gift shop - we were buying toy dinosaurs for our then 4yos who were discussing the relative merits of different types of dinosaur.

I had a not dissimilar encounter at my son's school. We were there for a concert and I saw a man I knew I knew, but couldn't place. Just assumed was the parents of one of my son's classmates so said a cheery hello. He didn't reply and gave me a very grumpy look, at which point I realised it was Jack Dee. Fair enough!

I used to like people spotting on that platform! Also Peter Capaldi and Janet Suzman.

Yep. I still remember how disappointed I was almost 20 years on!

I was in the area not long ago and walked past Damian Lewis circling around on a bike! It is a great area. If we could have afforded it, we'd have stayed, but we couldn't, so ended up south of the river instead. Ah well.

PLEASE tell me you wrote "Jimmy Carr...obviously" on his cup so it was called out!

Aha, I wish I had.

I met and had a photo taken with Donovan. While I waited for him to come out backstage, Justin Currie came through the door and asked if I was waiting for a photo. I said yeah so he tried to get in position and I had to tell him it was Donovan I was waiting for. Justin looked a bit sad so I got the photo with him too 😂
Donovan looked really confused that he had groupies waiting. He was truly the loveliest man ever.

LOL, that would have been quite the threesome with Mick-the shagger, and Koo-porn actress. Not sure I could have kept up.

Yes, prices started to climb, but south of the river is nice.

I have a terrible memory for names and most celebs pass me by, so I would genuinely struggle with this. I could be mingling with any number of them and wouldn't have a clue. On the strength of this thread and the dozens of others I've seen here over the years that would seriously damage some celebs' fragile egos!

I don't think I'd have gotten away with saying I didn't recognise him as it was around the time he was on the front page of all the papers for tax dodging.

Both foot related, oddly.

When I was 12, I went to my first ever concert with my friends and before our parents collected us, we went to the stage door to get an autograph. It was Chris Isaak, of Wicked Game fame. He accidentally stood on my toe, and was so apologetic and lovely.

As a student, we used to revise and sunbathe on the grass in College. Stephen Hawking ran over my foot in his chair. He did not apologise, nor did his nurse, and it bloody hurt.

You got ran over by Stephen hawking, stop itttt🤣🤣🤣

Used to live in Toronto and bumped into all of the big stars then routinely at the supermarket or deli etc. Especially around the time of the Toronto Film Festival. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams were lovely together, Jennifer Anniston was sweet. Woody Harrelson adored DD with all her curls. Bruce Willis was an arsehole. This was early 2000’s

When my sister was a young teenager she worked one summer at a local spa hotel he (Saville) used to frequent. The teenagers working there knew there was something off with him and would avoid his room.

Keith Wilder (Heatwave) came to a few of our house parties (Christmas/ New Year)

I bumped into Tim Robbins in Bologna. I noticed him as he was a foot taller then everyone else 🤣 lovely guy

I've sat with Julian Cope and some friends at their flat when they were jamming. I was 13 and in total awe

I've had tea and cake with Pete Burns

I was sitting next to Terry Hall in Carluccio's in Islington. The Specials were the first band I ever went to see aged 12. I was compelled to thank him for his music. I apologised for interrupting. He was very gracious and even gave me an autograph. Very un-Terry like!

Gene Antony Ray (Leroy from Fame) bumped into me in Rome taking pics walking backwards. He was mortified and apologised. And then chatted with us for the remainder of the tour

The lead singer of a band asked me out various times at a club we both went to regularly. I was 17. He was 26. Creeped me out as to me, he was an old man. Which he was and should have known better.

Nina Wadia - our children were playing together on a train journey . She was lovely and literally zero fame vibes. It was at the height of her career

Had a drink with Howard Jones after a gig in a tiny club in Italy. Same club Paul Weller invites us to a gig in milan 2 nights later, but I had work so declined (one of my regrets). Same club, Suzanne Vega flirting with my then boyfriend and me stepping in to make it clear he was with someone.

I've bonded over shoes at a party with a huge A lister actor just as she was about to hit the big big time. We chatted and shared what I thought were personal stories about her journey, her interests and life etc. I saw her interviewed on various programmes and in publications shortly after. Almost word for word our conversation. Realised I was a practice run

Numerous northwest bands, singers, DJs

Two huge near misses. The first was Richard Attenborough , Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger. I was invited to the set of Shadowlands - my dissertation was film industry related. Richard Attenborough didn't have time for an interview but had agreed I could come for the day and ask questions of him and the crew as and when opportunity arose. I had a car accident the day before when a man went through a red light. My car - my beloved 3 yr old Golf - was written off. Didn't make it to the meeting. Took me years to resolve my anger and hatred towards that driver.

And a welcomed near miss with my biggest hero, David Bowie. I went to a gig when he was doing the small venue tour. My aunt worked in the local hotel where most of the celebs etc stayed. I always used to pop in on the way home to see her as she worked in the residents bar so was usually bored and alone. That night, thankfully, I didn't. If I had, I would have been confronted by David Bowie, in the bar alone, not another soul. I would have completely embarrassed myself. Probably fainted and peed my pants.
